Since the inherent nature of many applied high-technological systems and networks possesses switching behaviors, modeling, controlling, and stabilizing problems of the switching plants are becoming as the important research scenarios in the current literature. Moreover, consideration of the effects of mismatching uncertainties along with matching uncertain parts as well as unknown dynamics is a significant topic in the control engineering community. As a result, this paper is dedicated to the controlling problem of partially unknown nonlinear switched systems whose dynamics are perturbed by both matched and mismatched uncertainties. In addition, since the existence of gain deviations in real-world implementations of physical actuators can lessen the control act of the switching system, this paper handles the corresponding gain variations in the control inputs via some adaptation variables. In the design procedure, no limiting supposition is made for the switch signal of the switched plant. The proposed control algorithm is based on the variable structure control theory in which the selected sliding surface is able to deal with mismatching uncertainties and the deriving control law is robust against the lumped uncertain components. As a contribution, the Lyapunov functions are built such that not only to provide an asymptotic stable system but also to assure the global (practical) finite-time stability of the equilibrium state of the final closed-loop cascade switched plant. This paper includes some results of switched Boolean control networks. The switched signals considered in this paper is time variant and it follows a certain probabilistic distribution vector. Given a concept of stabilization with stochastic switched signals, we obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for stabilization. Then a state feedback control depending on switched signals is designed to stabilize the system considered. Later we investigate a case when the switched signal $\theta (t)$ is unknown at time $t$ , and what we have is the prediction switched signal $\hat {\theta }(t)$. For a given prediction matrix, a necessary and sufficient condition is given to preserve the stabilization. Except state feedback control, asynchronous pinning control for switched Boolean networks (BNs) is also considered. A necessary and sufficient condition is extended for the stability of BNs with stochastic switched signals. Moreover, algorithms are presented to find the minimal number of pinned nodes based on controlling minimal number of subsystems. Since the wide application of virtual synchronous generators (VSGs), the power grid faces great challenges in the safe and stable operation due to their limited thermal capacity and weak anti-disturbance ability. During transient period, for example, a fault occurs in the transmission line, the VSG may lose the transient angle stability and provoke the current hard limit. Even if the fault is cleared by tripping of line, it still faces the problem of instability and voltage dips. To address this problem, in this paper, the post-fault large-signal model of VSG is derived first via the travelling waves based fault information acquisition. Subsequently, with the effect of both active and reactive power loops taken into account, a two-stage simultaneous control scheme is proposed for improving the transient stability of VSG, while considering the current limitation during fault state and voltage support after fault clearance. This method is fulfilled by mode switching and an additional feedback control based on the fault signal. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method under both symmetrical and asymmetrical faults is verified. Moreover, the application of the proposed method in a multiple VSGs system is also verified. The aim of this article is to develop a new cooperative path following control scheme for a team of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) which track one curve with nonlinear uncertainties. Individual path-following controllers are designed to guarantee that each AUV meets the desired tracking performance. For the cooperative path following, a containment control approach is incorporated into the design, where each AUV is forced to evenly disperse on a path that is parameterized by a continuous variable over a communication network. The main features of the paper that unlike the existing designs are that: first, by employing the command filtered control technique, the assumption of second-order derivative of the reference path is removed. Second, a globally uniformly ultimately bounded (GUUB) path following control structure is proposed that enables two kinds of controllers to switch under different cases. Third, coordination between multiple AUVs is achieved through a containment design, and a path variable containment cooperative path following controller is derived that enables multiple AUVs to be evenly dispersed and guided by the virtual leaders. This paper studies the stability analysis of the input saturated discrete-time switched systems with average dwell-time based on the parametric discrete-time Riccati equation. The state feedback controller and the observer-based output feedback controller are designed to guarantee the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. The proposed method is simple and easy to operate in practice. The designed controllers can be computed easily by solving the parametric discrete-time Lyapunov equation. The main advantages of this paper are that the stability analysis is based on the properties of the saturation function and limited structure information of the actuator saturation and that the designed controllers have good robustness to the structure uncertainty of the input saturation. This paper mainly investigates the problem of extended dissipative filter design for switched discrete-time systems where the variation of switching signals among subsystems is governed by the persistent dwell-time strategy. Considering that in practical applications, the congestion of the communication channels between systems and filters may cause data loss, therefore the packet dropouts are taken into account to make the issue under consideration more general. Meanwhile, it is generally known that the mode information of the system may sometimes not be accessed, so we consider the design of a unified filter including mode-dependent and mode-independent filters simultaneously. A white sequence that obeys the Bernoulli distribution is used to express the random switching of the filters. The main purpose of this paper is to find a suitable filter design method which ensures that the resulting error system is exponentially mean-square stable and extended dissipative. Sufficient conditions are established to make sure the solvability of the addressed problem. By using appropriate decoupling method, some conditions that could be readily solved are obtained. This paper deals with a state-feedback control scheme for nonlinear stochastic systems with Markovian switching. First, we present the results on the practically $ {p}$ -moment exponential stability with respect to an additional disturbance and the practically $ {p}$ -moment asymptotic stability relying on a specific event. However, elements in this event are hard to be observed directly. The main aim of this paper is to develop a self-triggered sampling rule to overcome this difficulty. By applying the improved monotone growth condition, Itô’s formula, Fubini’s theorem, Gronwall inequality, and comparison lemma, we establish a novel lemma to estimate the lower bound and upper bound of second-moment for state and error, respectively. Moreover, we also establish the practically asymptotic stability in mean square with the help of Jensen’s inequality technique, properties of $ {\mathcal {K}}$ -function and result on $ {p}$ -moment input-to-state stability. Furthermore, from Lipschitz continuity and monotonicity of functions, we obtain the value of the maximum triggering interval based on lasted-observed state. In the system and control community, the sliding mode control technology has been known as a tool which is able to handle system uncertainties and external disturbances. Simplicity in implementation and good stability performance are the other interesting features of the sliding modes. However, traditional sliding mode controllers exhibit two weaknesses, as follows: 1) generally, they have asymptotic stability in sliding mode dynamics which results in a slow speed system and 2) the so-called chattering phenomenon exists, which produces undesirable high frequency oscillations in the control signal. In this paper, the former problem is solved using a twofold terminal sliding manifold displaying desired transient and steady state behavior. The latter issue is responded to by a twofold sliding mode technology which leads to a continuous sliding control rule instead of a discontinuous switching control. The effects of uncertain terms as well as external perturbations with unknown bounds are fully compensated using updated parameters. The values of the updated parameters approach fixed values as the system trajectories converge to the equilibrium states. The analytical results of this paper are theoretically proved using the Lyapunov technique and the finite-time control strategy. Comparative computer simulations on a robotic manipulator confirm the fast convergence attribute and robust performance of the introduced adaptive robust nonsingular terminal sliding control algorithm. For Electro-Magnetic-Transient (EMT) simulations of power networks with switches, techniques such as linear interpolation and Critical Damping Adjustment (CDA) are widely used for improving numerical robustness. This paper analyzes the numerical stability of simulations with these techniques. Firstly, it is mathematically shown that the interpolation or CDA step is equivalent to the introduction of additional switching states. Subsequently, Common Quadratic Lyapunov Function (CQLF) theory is used to investigate the numerical stability of the whole simulation considering these new switching states. It is proved that the widely used strategies like linear interpolation and CDA always result a stable simulation if the original switched system is strictly passive in all switching states. Finally, it is shown that the developed approach can be used to determine the stability of other practical interpolation methods. Examples are provided to verify the proposed technique. In this paper, the problem of sliding mode control (SMC) is considered for a class of nonlinear continuous-time Markov jump systems (MJSs) with uncertainties and time delay. A novel integral-type switching sliding surface function is designed, where the controller gain may jump asynchronously with original MJSs. Then, an SMC law is constructed to force system trajectories onto the specified switching sliding surface in a finite time. The stochastic stability and dissipative performance of sliding mode dynamics are analyzed and the delay-dependent sufficient condition for the existence of the desired switching surface is developed. Moreover, we also extend SMC to investigate the finite-time stability problem during both reaching phase and sliding motion phase in the stochastic setting. This paper deals with the dissipative control and filtering problems for the discrete-time two-dimensional (2-D) switched Fornasini–Marchesini (FM) systems. First, the definition of 2-D TSR-θ-dissipativity for the FM systems is introduced. By employing the switched quadratic Lyapunov function technique and establishing multiple recursive formulas, sufficient conditions are developed to guarantee that the considered system is asymptotically stable under the arbitrary switching signal (ASS) case and exponentially stable under the restricted switching signal (RSS) case with the 2-D TSR-θ-dissipativity, respectively. The special cases, such as the 2-D passivity performance and the 2-D H∞ performance, are also discussed. Based on the obtained dissipative stability conditions, the 2-D TSR- θ-dissipative state feedback controller and filter design problems are further studied for the addressed system. This paper develops a resilience analysis framework to study the fault ride-through capability of direct current (DC) microgrids in unknown denial of service (DoS) cyber incidents. DoS can be a frequent threat to DC microgrids with advanced controllers that hinge on active information exchanges: it can paralyze data communications and cause control ineptness or even system instability. Furthermore, we show that temporal DoS incidents render the DC microgrid cyber-physical topology and parameters time-varying and cause them to jump between faulty conditions. As existing DC microgrid stability analysis results are primarily developed from time-invariant systems, they might not be valid for the DoS interrupted systems. In this paper, we seek to study whether a DC microgrid is resilient against time-varying unknown DoS incidents. The problem is formulated as a stability analysis problem for a system with randomly switching dynamics. Scalable conditions are developed to provide provable resilience guarantees. In addition, we exploit the special structure of the conditions to yield quantified resilience measure by convex optimization techniques. The measure can be used for the evaluation of the resilience of different DC microgrid design against DoS incidents. A trinary multilevel converter uses a few heterogeneous H-bridge submodules (SMs) to synthesize an output voltage with multiple levels. Two major limitations of this converter are that it needs multiple dc sources and it cannot operate under pulsewidth modulation (PWM). This paper addresses these limitations by adding a low-voltage H-bridge SM to this converter and proposing a new switching algorithm. The resulting PWM-based asymmetric cascaded H-bridge converter uses only one dc source and synthesizes a high-quality output voltage. This improved converter can be a potential choice for real and reactive power support in power system applications. This paper also proposes methods for stability analysis and design of this converter. Soft magnetic powder cores with their high saturation flux density and low core loss are excellent alternatives for filter inductors in inverter-based applications. However, their nonlinear current-dependent inductance characteristics pose a challenge for control of grid-connected inverter with LCL filter. In this paper, the variable inductance conundrum is discussed and a modified direct digital control method based on a variable-structure inductance estimation model that takes into consideration wide nonlinear variation in both inverter- and grid-side inductances is proposed. The proposed method is shown to have better grid-voltage harmonic rejection and improved stability margins. However, investigation of stability which is conventionally based on nominal values of filter inductors cannot predict instabilities over the entire range of inductance variation. Hence, a parametric approach to conventional stability methods with a parameter space defined by variation in actual and estimated inductance is explored in this paper. The effect of line impedance on stability is also investigated with impedance-based stability criterion by considering line inductance as an additional dimension in the parameter space. A pattern in stability margins is observed due to inductance variation, with inductance at its minimum being most vulnerable to instability. Experimental results measured from a 5 kW single-phase grid-connected inverter with various LCL filters have verified the feasibility of the proposed control method. In power electronics, the $\ell _1$-norm (instead of the squared $\ell _2$-norm) is often used in the objective function of model predictive controllers (MPCs) with reference tracking. Although the $\ell _1$-norm is preferred for its computational simplicity, it might lead to a performance deterioration and closed-loop instability. This paper analyzes the root cause for this and discusses the benefits of using the $\ell _2$-norm instead. Given the theoretical nature of this paper, a power electronics-oriented case study is employed to visualize and exemplify—through examples and simulations—the mathematical concepts and arguments presented. To this end, a variable speed drive system with a three-level voltage-source inverter serves as an illustrative example to clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of using the $\ell _2$-norm. This paper concerns with the stability analysis for a class of discrete-time switched Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy systems. By establishing a semitime-dependent Lyapunov function and exploring the property of mode-dependent average dwell-time switching, improved stability criteria are provided for switched T–S fuzzy systems containing both stable and unstable modes. Then, slow and fast switching strategies are designed, which are adopted for stable and unstable subsystems, respectively. Especially, we also provide the stability conditions for switched systems with all modes stable and unstable. The second-order sliding mode (SOSM) controller design problem for a class of sliding mode dynamics subject to an upper-triangular structure has been discussed in this paper. The proposed SOSM controller design involves two steps. First, a Lyapunov-based SOSM controller is developed by using the adding a power integrator technique to locally finite-time stabilize the sliding variables. Second, by combining the local SOSM controller with a saturation function, a novel SOSM controller with a saturation level is constructed. The feature of the new SOSM controller lies in that the saturation level can be tuned not only to guarantee the global convergence but also to improve the dynamic performance. This paper considers the problems on the mean square exponential synchronization and the almost surely exponential synchronization for neutral stochastic dynamical delay networks with Markovian switching via the single pinning impulsive control. By using a unified approach incorporating the concept of average impulsive interval and Lyapunov function, and the Borel–Cantelli lemma, two criteria on the mean square exponential stability and the almost surely exponential stability for impulsive neutral stochastic delay systems with Markovian switching are derived. It is shown that the impulsive control with a suitable impulsive strength can stochastically stabilize the underlying systems. With the symmetry and irreducibility of the switching topologies, and the obtained stochastic stability criteria, sufficient conditions are derived to determine the mean square exponential synchronization of the underlaying networks via the single pinning impulsive controller, which are given with algebraic inequalities and ${\mathcal {M}}$ -matrix. This paper addresses the control problem of the switched system with bounded actuators and average dwell-time. We present the switching rules for the designed controllers based on two kinds of parametric algebraic Riccati equation. The exponential stability of the switched system under the average-dwell time is ensured by the designed controllers and the switching rules. The dynamic performance of the control system is enhanced greatly by the proposed method. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness and the usefulness of the obtained theoretical results. The problem of adaptive decentralized fault-tolerant control is investigated in this paper for the pure-feedback nonlinear switched large-scale systems. The considered systems possess the unknown compounded nonlinearities (unknown nonlinear functions, unknown interconnected terms, unknown nonlinear function faults, and unknown actuator dead-zone nonlinearity). The radial basis function neural networks are utilized for identifying the unknown compounded nonlinear functions so that the problems of unknown nonlinearities can be solved. A switched neural networks ${k}$ -filter observer is constructed to estimate the unmeasurable states, deal with the unknown actuator dead-zone nonlinearity and compensate the nonlinear function faults simultaneously. Then, by combining the average dwell time theory, adaptive decentralized control method, and under the framework of backstepping design, an adaptive output-feedback fault compensation control method is presented. Under the certain assumptions, the stability of the closed-loop system is proved by use of Lyapunov function stability theory. In this paper, the stability problem of sampled data Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy control systems with packet dropouts is investigated. A sampling-dependent time-varying Lyapunov function (SDTVLF) is constructed to analyze the stability problem of the system and a switched system approach is proposed to model the packet dropouts phenomenon. On this basis, by dividing the sampling input available interval and unavailable interval into several segments, the matrix functions of the SDTVLF are chosen to be continuous piecewise linear. Then, by using the proposed SDTVLF approach, computable convex conditions are obtained for the sampling input unavailable interval and the sampling input available interval in framework of dwell time. By confining the sampling input unavailable interval with an upper bound and confining the sampling input available interval with a lower bound, the SDTVLF is always decreasing in all sampling input available and unavailable interval, which can make the sampled control system tolerate a larger packet dropout rate. In this paper, the problems of stability and ${l_{2}}$ -gain analysis are investigated for discrete-time switched systems with mode-dependent average dwell time (DT). By proposing a novel multiple discontinuous Lyapunov function (MDLF) approach, the conditions of stability and weighted ${l_{2}}$ -gain are established for nonlinear systems. Next, the corresponding results for linear switched systems are also proposed by using MDLF. It turns out that our proposed results provide smaller bounds on the DT. In this paper, the sliding mode control (SMC) design for nonlinear stochastic semi-Markov switching systems (S-MSSs) is studied via the bound of time-varying transition rate matrix, in which semi-Markov switching parameters, stochastic disturbance, uncertainty, and nonlinearity are all considered in a unified framework. The system under consideration is more general, which covers the Markov switching system with sojourn-time-independent transition rate matrix as a special case. Many practical systems subject to unpredictable structural variations can be characterized by nonlinear stochastic S-MSSs with sojourn-time-dependent transition rate matrix. The specific information about the bound of time-varying transition rate matrix is known for the sliding mode controller design. First, by using the stochastic semi-Markov Lyapunov function, sojourn-time-dependent sufficient conditions are developed to guarantee the closed-loop sliding mode dynamics stochastically stable. Then, the SMC law is constructed to ensure the reachability of the sliding mode dynamics in a finite-time level. In this paper, a parameter-dependent multiple discontinuous Lyapunov function (PMDLF) approach is proposed to study the $H_\infty$ refined antidisturbance control problem of switched linear parameter-varying systems. The $H_\infty$ refined antidisturbance means the disturbance appearing in the control channel can be accurately compensated by means of the estimation of the disturbance and the energy bounded external disturbance can be restrained. A key point is to set up a PMDLF framework that provides an effective tool for attenuating the energy bounded disturbances and rejecting the disturbances generated by the exosystem accurately. A parameter-driven and dwell time-dependent switching law is designed, and a solvability condition ensuring the $H_\infty$ refined antidisturbance performance is developed. Then, the $H_\infty$ refined antidisturbance switched parameter-dependent disturbance observers and the disturbance observer-based refined controllers are established to achieve required disturbance attenuation and rejection. This paper studies the set stabilization of Boolean control networks (BCNs) under sampled-data state feedback control (SDSFC). The main research content is divided into two parts. First, the topological structure of BCNs under given SDSFC is investigated. The fixed point and sampled cycle are defined, respectively. It is found that sampled cycles allow elements to be repeated and not every element can be regarded as an initial state, and this is quite different from conventional cycles of BCNs. A theorem is presented to calculate the number of fixed points and an algorithm is given to find all fixed points and sampled cycles. Second, the set stabilization problem of BCNs by SDSFC is investigated based on the sampled point set and the sampled point control invariant set (SPCIS). A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the global set stabilization of BCNs by SDSFC, and further sampled-data state feedback controllers are also designed. The interesting thing is that if a state enters the SPCIS as an unsampled point, then it may run out of the given set again, which is in sharp contrast to conventional BCNs. This paper investigates dissipativity and related properties for switched linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems by using parameter and dwell time-dependent multiple storage functions, which are different from traditional multiple storage functions because of the introduction of the external parameters into the storage functions construction. First, a novel concept relating to external parameters is proposed to describe the overall dissipativity property of switched parameter-varying systems in the absence of the conventional dissipativity property of the subsystems. Second, a state and parameter-triggered and time-driven switching laws is proposed, which avoids Zeno behavior by guaranteeing a dwell time among the adjacent switching. Third, several classic forms of dissipativity are addressed. For passivity and $ {L_{2}}$ -gain, under certain negative output feedback asymptotic stability is guaranteed with the aid of asymptotic zero state detectability. This paper proposes the design of gray wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm-based fractional order proportional integral (FOPI) controller for power factor correction (PFC) using interleaved dc–dc single ended primary inductance converter converter with improved performance characteristics such as speed, accuracy, and stability. The detailed analysis and modeling of the proposed converter are presented. The optimal parameters of FOPI controller are obtained using GWO algorithm to improve the speed of response of the system. FOPI controller provides better performance in terms of robustness and stability since it has one more adjustable parameter than the conventional proportional integral (PI) controller. The cascade control strategy is implemented for the proposed converter with GWO-based FOPI controller as inner current and outer voltage controllers for PFC and load voltage regulation. The performance characteristics of the proposed system are analyzed and compared with conventional and other optimization techniques using MATLAB/Simulink software. A prototype of the proposed converter controlled by TMS320C2000 microcontroller for an output power of 200 W is tested and validated with the simulation results. The proposed system is used for powering devices like robots in critical applications such as military, space craft, etc., where stability, speed, and accuracy are major concerns. In a conventional linear-control design of a higher order power-electronic system (PES), the gains of the control laws are typically determined by small-signal analysis of the averaged model of the PES. The closed-loop control of such a PES (driving a pulsating load that periodically shifts the equilibrium) using its small-signal model is often found to be unsatisfactory with regard to the overall stability and performance. To address the challenges in control design for a PES driving such a nonlinear time-varying pulsating load, this paper delineates an optimal switching-sequence-based control (SBC) scheme, which applies stability-bound switching sequence(s) to the PES. A novel method has been formulated to ensure the reachability of the PES dynamics based on its switching sequence in terms of the time horizon of the switching sequence and the allocation of this time among the switching states of the same switching sequence. This is ascertained by modeling the PES and the pulsating load as a nonlinear map and then using this map and multiple Lyapunov functions determined by solving a set of linear-matrix inequalities corresponding to each of the switching states of a given switching sequence. It has been further shown that the knowledge of the stability bounds of a reachable switching sequence helps in reducing the online computation time for optimal SBC associated with solving the optimization problem by reducing the overall search space. Finally, to validate the optimal SBC, an experimental GaN-FET-based 100-kHz  Ćuk-PES has been fabricated and tested on a pulsating load. The overall SBC is implemented on a low-cost TMS320F28335 DSP, which also implements an observer to preclude the need for plurality of sensors for the higher order Ćuk-PES. This paper considers the global stabilization problem via sampled-data control for a class of switched nonlinear systems meanwhile taking into account asynchronous switching. First of all, a state feedback sampled-data controller is constructed by backstepping design method. Then, a relationship between the sampling period and the average dwell time is derived, which can guarantee that the closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable. This paper investigates basic stability properties of the three-level flying-capacitor Buck converter when operated under current-mode control (CMC). The proposed analysis is developed for both peak CMC (P-CMC) and valley CMC (V-CMC), and addresses both the static instability of the inductor current and the flying capacitor (FC) voltage runaway phenomenon. Conditions for avoiding current subharmonic oscillations are derived first, along with the expressions of the minimal compensation ramp, which guarantee current stability throughout the entire operating range. As for the stability of the FC voltage, P-CMC results to be inherently unstable unless the converter operates with a relatively large peak-to-peak inductor-current ripple, a feature not yet recognized in the literature. However, V-CMC results to be inherently stable once the static instability of the current is eliminated with an external compensating ramp—a property that has been highlighted in the literature but never formally proven. The shunt regulator is a key part of the power conditioning unit, which is becoming more and more important in the spacecrafts. Due to the nonlinear link, the switch operating with hysteresis control, the shunt regulator is a nonlinear system; however, the stability analysis method for the system is still grounded on the approximate linearization method, which neglects some of the ac and dc characteristics. In this paper, a novel stability analysis method for the nonlinear systems is proposed based on the describing function, which can be used to model the nonlinear link in the shunt regulator system. Further, the different conclusion of the shunt regulator system stability are drawn, by the approximate linearization method and the stability analysis method proposed in this paper, respectively. Finally, the simulation and experimental results prove the correctness of the stability analysis method with describing function and discover the incompletion of the approximate linearization methods on the stability analysis. This paper studies the consensus problem for directed positive multiagent systems with nonlinear control input. The directed topology is supposed to be strongly connected. For the case of sector input nonlinearities, the non-negative global consensus conditions are presented by using a novel analysis method which directly considers the nonlinear input, and the feedback matrices are obtained with convex optimization method by solving the quadratic matrix inequalities subject to non-negative constraints. For the case of saturation-type sector input nonlinearities, the global consensus and local consensus results are analyzed, respectively. With the properties of Metzler matrix, the non-negative consensus results are further extended to the strongly connected and balanced positive multiagent systems subject to (saturation-type) sector input nonlinearities and parameter uncertainties. The results are simplified, and the feedback matrices can be given by solving iterative linear matrix inequality with non-negative constraints. Flyback converters with universal serial bus power delivery (USB-PD) specification are widely used in low-power adapter application. The wide output voltage range operation of USB-PD makes the loop gain vary under different working conditions. To ensure stability in all working conditions, the loop gain has to be compensated based on the worst case of control-to-output transfer function. However, in other conditions, the crossover frequencies of loop gain are sacrificed, resulting in poor transient responses. This paper proposes an adaptive variable-frequency peak current mode control with constant crossover frequency to mitigate the tradeoff between stability and transient response while possessing the variable frequency characteristic to improve light load efficiency. The adaptive control law is derived from the proposed small-signal model. Experimental and simulation results verify the analysis. The proposed control reduces the output voltage variation at load transient by 43% and 34% at 5 and 20 V output voltage, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Autonomous agents are often tasked with operating in an area where feedback is unavailable. Inspired by such applications, this paper develops a novel switched system-based control method for uncertain nonlinear systems with temporary loss-of-state feedback. To compensate for intermittent feedback, an observer is used while state feedback is available to reduce the estimation error, and a predictor is utilized to propagate the estimates while state feedback is unavailable. Based on the resulting subsystems, maximum and minimum dwell time conditions are developed via a Lyapunov-based switched systems analysis to relax the constraint of maintaining constant feedback. Using the dwell time conditions, a switching trajectory is developed to enter and exit the feedback denied region in a manner that ensures that the overall switched system remains stable. A scheme for designing a switching trajectory with a smooth transition function is provided. Simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of control design. It is generally known that averaged models are inadequate in describing the effects of leading-edge and trailing-edge pulsewidth modulation (PWM) on the stability of dc–dc converters. In this paper, using discrete-time models of the buck, boost, and buck–boost converters and considering the effects of leading-edge and trailing-edge PWM, the general expressions of the duty-cycle-to-output-voltage transfer function, Gvd(z), in the discrete-time domain are derived. Based on the low-pass characteristics of the dc-dc converters and related properties of the matrix functions, approximate expressions of Gvd in the frequency domain are derived, which are simple and accurate up to half the switching frequency. Using the approximate Gvd, the stability of the three basic dc–dc converters under leading-edge and trailing-edge PWM is analyzed. It is shown that the stability of the buck converter is unaffected by the type of PWM, while the leading-edge modulated boost and buck–boost converters have better stability than the trailing-edge modulated ones. Since the trailing-edge modulation is commonly available in PWM controller integrated circuits, the modulation signal zero-order holding (ZOH) method and the inductor current feedback control method are proposed for use in the trailing-edge modulated boost and buck–boost converters to achieve the same effect of leading-edge modulated converters. Ripple-based constant on-time and off-time control techniques can achieve fast step-down and step-up transient performance along with an improved light-load efficiency. However, they suffer from varying switching frequency at the steady state and often require a phase-locked loop for frequency regulation. This paper proposes a constant on/off-time hybrid modulation technique in a digitally current-mode controlled synchronous buck converter. The proposed technique considers an event-based sampling mechanism using one sample per switching cycle, which makes it useful for high-frequency implementation. This requires a monoshot timer and a digital voltage controller $G_c(z)$. The proposed technique can be configured to a constant on-time or off-time modulator with seamless transition because of sharing $G_c(z)$ ; thus, improved step-up/down transient performance can be retained. Furthermore, a discrete-time framework is proposed for fast-scale stability analysis, and the effects of finite sampling and practical parasitics are discussed. Discrete-time small-signal models are derived for the direct digital control design with enhanced stability and performance. A frequency adaptation method is discussed to customize the switching frequency in real time. Linear ramp slope compensation (LRC) and quadratic slope compensation (QSC) are commonly implemented in peak-current-mode-controlled dc–dc converters in order to minimize subharmonic and chaotic oscillations. Both compensating schemes rely on the linearized state-space averaged model (LSSA) of the converter. The LSSA ignores the impact that switching actions have on the stability of converters. In order to include switching events, the nonlinear analysis method based on the Monodromy matrix was introduced to describe a complete-cycle stability. Analyses on analog-controlled dc–dc converters applying this method show that system stability is strongly dependent on the change of the derivative of the slope at the time of switching instant. However, in a mixed-signal-controlled system, the digitalization effect contributes differently to system stability. This paper shows a full complete-cycle stability analysis using this nonlinear analysis method, which is applied to a mixed-signal-controlled converter. Through this analysis, a generalized equation is derived that reveals for the first time the real boundary stability limits for LRC and QSC. Furthermore, this generalized equation allows the design of a new compensating scheme, which is able to increase system stability. The proposed scheme is called polynomial curve slope compensation (PCSC) and it is demonstrated that PCSC increases the stable margin by 30% compared to LRC and 20% to QSC. Dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) has recently been widely deployed in the Internet and adopted in the industry. It, however, does not impose any adaptation logic for selecting the quality of video segments requested by clients and suffers from lackluster performance with respect to a number of desirable properties: efficiency, stability, and fairness when multiple players compete for a bottleneck link. In this paper, we propose a throughput-friendly DASH rate control scheme for video streaming with multiple clients over DASH to well balance the tradeoffs among efficiency, stability, and fairness. The core idea behind guaranteeing fairness and high efficiency (bandwidth utilization) is to avoid OFF periods during the downloading process for all clients, i.e., the bandwidth is in perfect-subscription or over-subscription with bandwidth utilization approach to 100%. We also propose a dual-threshold buffer model to solve the instability problem caused by the above idea. As a result, by integrating these novel components, we also propose a probability-driven rate adaption logic taking into account several key factors that most influence visual quality, including buffer occupancy, video playback quality, video bit-rate switching frequency and amplitude, to guarantee high-quality video streaming.
