This paper describes the hydrodynamic behavior of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles modified with citric acid (CA-SPIONs) in suspension under alternating current magnetic fields given interparticle and inter-cluster dipole–dipole interactions. The cluster size of the CA-SPIONs is modulated to control interparticle interactions, and the ionic concentration of the CA-SPION suspension is varied to control inter-cluster interactions. Dynamic magnetic susceptibility (DMS) measurements of the CA-SPION suspensions under alternating current magnetic fields indicate that the interparticle interaction by clustering and the inter-cluster interaction by increasing the ionic concentration cause frequency spectra modulation, such as their broadening in the low-frequency region and a decrease in the Brownian relaxation frequency. The experimentally obtained DMS spectra differ from the spectra numerically calculated from the hydrodynamic size distribution of CA-SPIONs using the Debye relaxation model without considering the magnetic interactions; the differences are attributed to the interparticle and inter-cluster dipole–dipole interactions. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of dynamics of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and facilitate nanoparticle parameter optimization for tailored applications in the biomedical field, particularly for their efficacy and precision in liquid-phase biosensing and imaging. In this paper, the effects of hydrostatic stress on the magnetic properties of Mn-Zn power ferrites are discussed. Ring cores were embedded in cement and the curing process gradually exerted pressure on the core. A novel testing method was developed to continuously measure the power losses and the magnetic susceptibility in dependence on magnetic excitation at a fixed frequency and room temperature with a vector network analyzer. After 450 h, a maximum compressive stress of 120 MPa was reached. Power loss up to 300% was observed, while magnetic susceptibility dropped by 35%. The magneto-mechanical effect on core losses was simulated with the Hodgdon–Esguerra hysteresis model, showing excellent agreement with tested results, which allows us to predict the behavior of ferrite tiles embedded in load-bearing surfaces for wireless power transfer (WPT) applications. When a diamagnetic graphite plate is placed on top of a magnet, it is subject to both magnetic levitation and gravitational forces. Computational modeling is used to demonstrate that these forces can balance each other to allow a stable tilt angle θ to be attained when the graphite plate pivots on the magnet surface. θ depends on the magnetic susceptibility χmag, which can be controlled by using laser irradiation to change the temperature of the graphite. Over a limited temperature range, there is a linear relation between the angle change Δθ and the temperature change ΔT. This predicted behavior is confirmed experimentally using a graphite plate (5 × 5 × 0.83 mm) placed on top of a 7.5 cm diameter neodymium iron boride magnet with a surface field strength of ∼5000 G. Using a 532 nm laser, θ could be continuously tuned from 52° to 26° by varying the laser power between 20 and 800 mW. The response time was about 15 s at all powers. Higher laser powers were observed to lead to a complete loss of levitation, followed by recovery and oscillation in and out of the laser beam. The linear dependence of Δθ on power suggests that photothermal tilting of the graphite plate in a magnetic field provides a fatigue resistant way to achieve large angular deviations using an external light source. Understanding the magnetic states and their dynamics in patterned ferromagnetic materials is of great importance for ultrahigh-density recording from the viewpoints of both fundamental research and practical applications. However, reliable access to magnetization dynamics in magnetic materials and devices on the technologically highly relevant terahertz range remains challenging. Currently, there is a lack of reports on terahertz magnetic susceptibility. Here, through micromagnetic simulations, we study the dynamics of pyramid-shaped, isolated magnetic nanodots and their arrays made of L10-FePt with high magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Numerical results reveal a significant magnetic response of isolated pyramid nanodots in the terahertz range. Specifically, two resonant modes, namely, a bulk mode and an edge mode, have been identified. For the lateral size above ∼100 nm, the nanodot's bulk mode splits and higher-order modes appear. Furthermore, the calculated spatial Fourier amplitude of resonant modes of nanopyramid arrays exhibits the dependence of lateral size and inter-dot spacing. To explore potential applications in classical and quantum information transfer, the hybrid systems between yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and cavities have been extensively studied, and four coupling regimes have been defined based on the relative strength between the coupling strength and dissipation rate of each subsystem. Achieving the control of magnon–photon coupling between nano-thick YIG films and cavities remains to be explored. We experimentally measure the microwave transmission spectra of a nano-thick yttrium iron garnet/gadolinium gallium garnet (YIG/GGG) film coupled to a superconducting cavity at different temperatures. The dissipation rate of the superconducting cavity increases significantly with decreasing temperature, which is influenced by the temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of the GGG substrate. Accompanied by the temperature-dependent magnon dissipation rate, a continuous transformation of the coupled system in strong coupling, Purcell and weak coupling regimes is achieved. We have conducted the study of structural, magnetic, magnetothermal, and magnetoelastic properties of four rare-earth compounds: Gd4.5Tb0.5Si2Ge2, Gd4TbSi2Ge2, Gd4.4Tb0.5Ti0.1Si2Ge2, and Gd3.9TbTi0.1Si2Ge2 in the vicinity of magnetically induced phase transitions. We demonstrate that the introduction of Ti into the rare-earth sublattice separates the structural and magnetic phase transitions and changes the order of magnetic phase transition from type I to II, while preserving high values of magnetocaloric effect (MCE). Additionally, incorporating a small quantity of Tb enables the creation of compounds with enhanced MCE values over a specific temperature range of 240–290 K. The observed phenomena can be attributed to the combined effects of forced magnetization and alteration of magnetic susceptibility during the structural phase transition that accompany the magnetic phase changes in these compounds. It is shown that studies of the coercivity of AFM domain walls that arise in antiferromagnets during the first-order spin-orientation transition can be used as a tool for detecting, identifying, and studying spin structures realized in a crystal under the influence of an external magnetic field. The use of high-frequency modulation of the magnetic field made it possible to expand the capabilities of the standard induction method of studying magnetic phase transitions in antiferromagnets. Extensional flow is vital in droplet dynamics, influencing their formation, size, stability, and functionality across diverse applications from industrial processes to biomedical technology. Ferrofluid droplets are pivotal in many such applications, where magnetic fields enable non-contact manipulation without undesirable heating effects. However, controlling ferrofluid droplet dynamics in magnetically influenced extensional flows is challenging due to the complex interplay of induced magnetization, intrinsic magnetic properties, and flow kinematics. Here, we present a first-principle-based theory delving into the morphology of a ferrofluid droplet under the combined influence of an external magnetic field and extensional flow. Unlike previous studies, we employ an asymptotic analysis that delves on the shape alterations by considering local magnetization as dependent on magnetic field intensity. Additionally, we develop a numerical model based on phase-field hydrodynamics to establish the practical applicability of the asymptotic solution and to explore large droplet-deformation regimes. The study demonstrates that increasing the magnetic field intensity, the saturation magnetization of the ferrofluid, and the initial magnetic susceptibility each independently improve droplet deformation. Additionally, we found that in a uniform magnetic field, the extensional viscosity of a ferrofluid emulsion is influenced by the strain rate, leading to strain-thickening behavior in the dilute emulsion. Our findings offer new insights into field-assisted manipulation of ferrofluid droplets, emphasizing their potential in applications ranging from process engineering to biomedical technology. A simplified model of anisotropic magnetic susceptibility in the Meissner–London vortex-free state of cuboidal superconducting samples is presented. Using this model, precision measurements of the magnetic response in three perpendicular directions of a magnetic field with respect to primary crystal axes can be used to extract the components of the London penetration depth, thus enabling the evaluation of the general superfluid density tensor, which is needed in the analysis of the superconducting gap structure. In this study, we present a novel method for measuring the magnetic susceptibility of liquids using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. The proposed technique employs a ring magnet to deform the liquid, while a laser beam passes through the liquid to measure the resulting interference pattern. The deformation of the liquid, caused by the known magnetic field of the ring magnet, is used to calculate the magnetic susceptibility. We provide a comprehensive theoretical framework, including the relevant equations and models, for analyzing the data obtained using this method. We compare the Mach–Zehnder interferometer method with other established techniques, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages. Our findings indicate that the Mach–Zehnder interferometer technique offers high accuracy, sensitivity, and potential applications in characterizing the magnetic properties of various liquid systems. We have prepared and investigated superconducting equimolar medium-entropy alloys of TiZrNb and TiZrNbHf. Their basic superconducting parameters, as the values of the critical temperature Tc, upper critical magnetic field Bc2 and the superconducting energy gap Δ have been studied with the use of magnetic susceptibility and point-contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) spectroscopy measurements. Although our samples have different critical temperatures, namely Tc ∼ 8.2 K for TiZrNb and Tc ∼ 6.3 K for TiZrNbHf, their zero-temperature critical magnetic field has the same value Bc2(0) = 12 T, from the vicinity of the Clogston limit. We have observed the presence of degraded phases on the surfaces of all the investigated samples using PCAR measurements. Still, we were able to show that the bulk phase in both systems exhibits BCS weakly coupled superconductivity with 2Δ(0)/kBTc ∼ 3.5. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For one of the famous and widely investigated intermediate valence compound YbB12, the experimental studies of the pressure effect on magnetic susceptibility χ (P) were carried out under helium gas pressure P up to 2 kbar at fixed temperatures 78 and 300 K using a pendulum type magnetometer. The measurements show a slight increase in susceptibility under pressure, which is consistent in sign with similar literature data for other ytterbium compounds with intermediate valence of Yb ions. Based on a model analysis of experimental data, the pressure derivative of Yb valence in YbB12 was estimated for the first time, the value of which is in line with the general trend of the valence behavior under pressure in rare earth compounds exhibiting intermediate valence. Steel slag can separate inert minerals by the mineral separation method and prevent the hydration of active minerals caused by wet magnetic separation. In order to solve the problems of low specific magnetic susceptibility, small grain size, and difficult separation of inert minerals in steel slag, fluidized dry magnetic network separation equipment was used in this study. Through the study of the influence of operating parameters, such as magnetic mesh aperture, fluidized gas speed, and background magnetic field strength in the equipment, the Longang steel slag (converter steel slag, treated by the hot disintegrating method) was effectively separated. The results show that the total iron content of the final product scavenging product decreased from 16.90 to 11.93 wt. %, which accounted for 56.16 wt. % of the total weight of the raw material, which is used as a cementitious material to replace part of the cement. The total iron content of the concentrate product increased more than twice from 16.90 to 34.27 wt. %, which accounted for 3.36 wt. % of the total weight of the raw material, which is used as ironmaking raw material through subsequent treatment. Magnetic After-Effect (MAE) and magnetic AC susceptibility studies have been performed on high-purity non-irradiated and Fe-ion irradiated, α -Fe foil samples in the high-temperature range, which became experimentally accessible recently. The pronounced difference in the temperature profile of MAE between non-irradiated and irradiated samples has been identified and ascribed to the trapping of carbon in the irradiated sample into structures that are reluctant to decompose by standard temperature cycling. The accurate background of MAE relaxations at 430 and 610 K in non-irradiated α -Fe samples has been scrutinized by the annealing-type studies in temperature and time domains to conclude that it relies on the formation, decomposition, and mutual transformations of carbide nanoprecipitates nucleated in dislocations, grain boundaries, and in the bcc matrix. The valence band (VB) structure of an Al0.5TiZrPdCuNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) obtained using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been compared to that recently calculated by Odbadrakh et al. [J. Appl. Phys. 126, 095104 (2019)]. Both the experimental and theoretical VBs show a split-band structure, typical for alloys consisting of the early (TE) and late (TL) transition metals. Accordingly, several electronic structure (ES) properties of this alloy, both in the glassy and crystalline state, are compared with those of similar TE-TL alloys. The comparison shows a strong effect of alloying with Al on the density of states at the Fermi level, N(EF), and on the magnetic susceptibility of Al0.5TiZrPdCuNi HEA, similar to that in conventional glassy alloys, such as Zr-Cu-Al ones. Despite some similarity in the theoretical and experimental density of states of the VBs, there are significant differences between them, which should be taken into account in any future studies of ES in HEAs and other compositionally complex alloys. Introducing a flexible substrate in functional devices often brings about stress-tunable properties. Ferromagnetic nanorings fabricated on flexible substrates hold promise for microwave applications based on a stretchable functional system. Here, through micromagnetic simulations, we report high-frequency dynamic properties of such FeGa nanorings each with a magnetic vortex, concentrating on the dynamic susceptibility and the spatial structure of relevant resonance modes in response to an induced tensile or compressive stress. It is seen that the fundamental resonance frequency varies significantly with the mechanical stress and ring width. Furthermore, spatial profiles of the resonance modes are found to evolve with the stress and ring width, resulting in a repeated fluctuation in dynamic susceptibility. Temperature dependent magnetization measurements reveal the significant suppression of ferromagnetism in the LABMO sample upon Bi-doping on a La-site. The downturn in inverse magnetic susceptibility (χ−1) observed just above TC (236 K) in the paramagnetic regime corroborates the presence of short-range ferromagnetic correlations, which is the characteristic of the Griffith like phase below 270 K. The deviation from linear paramagnetic behavior in χ−1 implies the strong Griffith singularity. Furthermore, we have employed an integrated Maxwell's thermodynamic relation numerically and used isothermal magnetization data to determine the change in magnetic entropy at various magnetic fields. For a magnetic field change of 5 T, the value of maximum magnetic entropy change is found to be ∼6 J kg−1 K−1. We have also explored the critical behavior of the LABMO sample at transition temperatures using different theoretical models. The value of exponents β, γ, and δ does not fall into any known universality class. Despite this, the scaling relations show that interactions are renormalized around the Curie temperature (TC). Spin–orbit torque (SOT)-induced reversal of a ferromagnet in a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) is promising for next-generation novel magnetic memory and spin-logic devices. However, inherent limitations of single ferromagnetic-based free layer (FL) systems are low thermal stability and susceptibility to external magnetic stray fields. To overcome these challenges, synthetic antiferromagnets (SAFs) are integrated into MTJ devices to form hybrid free layers (HFLs); this FL system enables tunability of thermal stability and stray field experienced by the FL, simultaneously lowering the SOT-induced switching currents. Here, we investigate the impact of net magnetization of the SAF-based HFL on the field and current-driven switching behavior. We observe that nearly compensated SAF-HFL systems demonstrate a higher proportion of switching failures at the device level than the uncompensated SAF-HFL systems in both current and field-driven schemes. Micro-magnetic simulations and thin film characterization of SAF-HFL show that the device-level stochasticity arises due to a dynamic decoupling within the nearly compensated SAF systems. We show that optimizing the SAF-HFL systems to have uncompensated magnetization mitigates this stochasticity and improves the SOT switching current for Pt-based SOT channel by at least 20% across the entire tested pulse width range down to 300 ps, thus leading to reliable switching of SOT-MTJs with SAF-HFL stacks. In this article, we describe the characterization of a newly fabricated amorphous alloy system (TiZrNbCu)1−xCox covering a broad composition range from high-entropy (HEA) to Co-rich alloys (x ≤ 0.43). We investigated thermal stability, atomic and electronic structure, and magnetic and mechanical properties as a function of chemical composition x. One of the important findings is that all studied properties change their dependence on concentration x within the HEA range. In particular, it has been found that the average atomic volume deviates from Vegard's law for x > 0.2, the concentration for which the average atomic packing fraction suddenly changes. The valence band structure, studied with ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy, shows a split-band shape with 3d-states of Co approaching the Fermi level on increasing x. Due to the onset of magnetic correlations, magnetic susceptibility rapidly increases for x > 0.25. Very high microhardness increases rapidly with x. The results are compared with those for similar binary and quinary metallic glasses and with those for Cantor type of crystalline alloys. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study experimentally and theoretically the dynamics of two-dimensional self-assembled binary clusters of paramagnetic colloids of two different sizes and magnetic susceptibilities under a time-varying magnetic field. Due to the continuous energy input by the rotating field, these clusters are at a state of dissipative nonequilibrium. Dissipative viscoelastic shear waves traveling around their interface enable the rotation of isotropic binary clusters. The angular velocity of a binary cluster is much slower than that of the magnetic field; it increases with the concentration of big particles, and it saturates at a concentration threshold. We generalize an earlier theoretical model to successfully account for the observed effect of cluster composition on cluster rotation. We also investigate the evolution of the internal distribution of the two particle types, reminiscent of segregation in a drop of two immiscible liquids, and the effect of this internal structure on rotation dynamics. The binary clusters exhibit short-range order, which rapidly vanishes at a larger scale, consistent with the clusters' viscoelastic liquid behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The coexisting Néel and Brownian relaxation behaviors of magnetic nanoclusters in a viscous medium lead to a highly nonlinear field-dependent magnetization response, which can benefit magnetic particle imaging and hyperthermia. To empirically correlate the moment and particle dynamics with the core and cluster sizes, we performed spectroscopic susceptometry to assess frequency-dependent complex magnetic susceptibility of water-dispersed magnetic nanoclusters at very low field amplitude. The superparamagnetic core particles of nanoclusters should undergo fast moment dynamics. However, for the nanoclusters experiencing the field-driven Brownian relaxation, their constituent core particles appear to collectively behave as a large effective core with a long Néel relaxation time constant. We later numerically interpolated the phase-delay spectra of the immobilized nanoclusters to estimate the Néel relaxation time constant attributed to the intrinsic dipolar interparticle magnetism. From additional static magnetometry, the overlapping bimodal magnetic moment distribution predicts the secondary core sizes larger than the actual sizes from the electron microscopy images. The different estimates of the effective Néel relaxation time constant obtained from the (nearly field-free) frequency-dependent and (static) field-dependent magnetization responses further indicate the activation energies limiting the relaxation behavior of magnetic nanoclusters. We developed a metallic pressure cell made of 56Ni–40Cr–4Al (Ni–Cr–Al) alloy for use with a non-destructive pulse magnet and a magnetic susceptibility measurement apparatus with a proximity detector oscillator (PDO) in pulsed magnetic fields of up to 51 T under pressures of up to 2.1 GPa. Both the sample and sensor coil of the PDO were placed in the cell so that the magnetic signal from Ni–Cr–Al would not overlay the intrinsic magnetic susceptibility of the sample. A systematic investigation of the Joule heating originating from metallic parts of the pressure cell revealed that the increase in sample temperature is negligible at 1.4 K in magnetic fields of up to 40 T in the field-ascending process for the maximum applied magnetic field of 51 T. The effectiveness of our apparatus was demonstrated by investigating the pressure dependence of the magnetization process of the triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ba3CoSb2O9. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In spin-glasses (SG), the relaxation time τ (=1/2πf) vs Tf data at the peak position Tf in the temperature variation of the ac magnetic susceptibilities at different frequencies f is often fit to the Vogel–Fulcher Law (VFL): τ = τ0 exp[Ea/kB(Tf − T0)] and to the Power Law (PL): τ = τ0 ∗ [(Tf − TSG)/TSG] −zυ . Both of these laws have three fitting parameters each, leaving a degree of uncertainty since the magnitudes of the evaluated parameters τ0, Ea/kB, τ0 ∗, and zυ depend strongly on the choice of T0 and TSG. Here, we report an optimized procedure for the analysis of τ vs Tf data on seventeen SG systems for which we could extract such data from published sources. In this optimized method, the data of τ vs Tf are fit by varying T0 in the linear plots of Ln τ vs 1/(Tf − T0) for the VFL and by varying TSG in the linear plot of Ln τ vs Ln (Tf − TSG)/TSG for the PL until optimum fits are obtained. The analysis of the associated magnitudes of τ0, Ea/kB, τ0 ∗, and zυ for these optimum values of T0 and TSG shows that the magnitudes of τ0 ∗, τ0, and zυ fail to provide a clear distinction between canonical and cluster SG. However, new results emerge showing Ea/(kBT0) < 1 in canonical SG, whereas Ea/(kBT0) >1 for cluster SG systems, and the optimized T0 < optimized TSG in all cases. Although some interpretation of these new results is presented, a more rigorous theoretical justification of the boundary near Ea/(kBT0) ∼ 1 is desired along with testing of these criteria in other SG systems. Magnetic properties of a dense superfluid neutron matter (relevant to the physics in cores of magnetars, namely the strongly magnetized neutron stars) at supranuclear densities n > n0 (where n0 = 0.17 fm–3 is the saturation nuclear density) with generalized Skyrme effective forces (with three density-dependent terms) and with spin-triplet anisotropic p-wave pairing (similar to 3He-A in magnetic fields, i.e. with spin S = 1 and orbital moment L = 1 of anisotropic Cooper pairs of neutrons) in the presence of a superstrong magnetic field (exceeding the 1017 G) are studied within the framework of the non-relativistic generalized Fermi-liquid theory at zero temperature. The upper limit for the density range of a neutron matter is restricted by the magnitude 3n0 in order to avoid the account of relativistic corrections growing with density. The approximate general formula (valid for any parameterization of the Skyrme forces) is derived here analytically for the magnetic susceptibility (which contains additional correction depending nonlinearly on superstrong magnetic field H and on the density n) of a superfluid neutron matter in the limit of zero temperature. The obtained general formula for magnetic susceptibility is specified for the generalized BSk21 parameterization of the Skyrme forces and figures for corresponding values are plotted on the interval 1.5n0 ≤ n ≤ 3n0 and for superstrong magnetic fields 2⋅1017 G ≤ H ≤ 2⋅1018 G. It is established that the high-density ferromagnetic instability is removed in neutron matter with the generalized Skyrme forces (in particular, with the generalized BSk21 parameterization) not only in normal, but also in superfluid neutron matter with spin-triplet anisotropic p-wave pairing at supranuclear densities and in superstrong magnetic fields. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be incorporated in various materials to enhance their mechanical or electrical properties. Information on their precise concentration and local distribution is difficult to access non-invasively. For example, electron microscopy studies require cutting of samples. Another way to measure the concentration of CNTs is by the magnetic susceptibility of the ferrocene present in the CNTs by the synthesis process, which can be performed on sample coupons on a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM); VSM is a bulky laboratory instrument, and the size of the samples studied is constrained. In order to provide a technique that is fast, easy, cheap, and adaptable to the size of the samples, we have developed a benchtop device that measures the CNT concentration through an original inductive dynamic measurement of the ferrocene magnetic susceptibility. We present the method for extracting CNT concentrations and show the results obtained on cement matrices with CNT concentrations of the order of a few percent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For one of the most famous and widely investigated intermediate-valence compound SmB6, we report the results of a precise experimental study of the pressure effect on magnetic susceptibility χ. The measurements of χ(P) were carried out under helium gas pressure P up to 2 kbar at fixed temperatures 78 and 300 K using a pendulum-type magnetometer. The observed pressure effect value, d lnχ/dP ∼ –6 Mbar–1, demonstrates a noticeable decrease in susceptibility under pressure, which is weakly dependent on temperature used. From model analysis of the experimental data, combined with the supplemented LSDA + U calculations of the electronic structure and van Vleck paramagnetism of the band states of SmB6, we have estimated the value of the initial pressure derivative for the intermediate valence of Sm. It is consistent with the literature data obtained by other methods and indicates an increase in valence with increasing pressure. The magnetic susceptibility χ of single-crystal antiferromagnet FeG e 2 (T N = 289 K) was measured in the temperature range from 4.2 to 300 K in a magnetic field H up to 40 kOe applied along the main crystallographic axes. For the antiferromagnetic (AFM) state at low temperatures, a strong increase in χ is observed with increasing H applied along the [100] axis, which reaches saturation at H ≥ H 0 ∼ 11 kOe. It is assumed that this behavior is associated with a field-induced change in the AFM domain structure, and the single-domain state is realized in a field above H 0 with the AFM axis perpendicular to the field direction. The study of χ under the uniaxial P a and uniform P pressures in a wide temperature range has revealed an anomalously large increase in χ in AFM state with increasing uniaxial pressure for P a | | H | | [ 100 ] at H ≪ H 0. The observed growth of χ saturates at pressure P a ≥ P a ∗ ≃ 1.5 kbar and suggests the formation of the single-domain state for the above conditions. The values of uniform pressure effect on χ was found to lie in the range d ln ⁡ χ / d P = − (2–3) Mbar–1, being weakly dependent on the magnetic state and field direction. We present here two novel algorithms for simulated tempering simulations, which break the detailed balance condition (DBC) but satisfy the skewed detailed balance to ensure invariance of the target distribution. The irreversible methods we present here are based on Gibbs sampling and concern breaking DBC at the update scheme of the temperature swaps. We utilize three systems as a test bed for our methods: a Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation on a simple system described by a one-dimensional double well potential, the Ising model, and molecular dynamics simulations on alanine pentapeptide (ALA5). The relaxation times of inverse temperature, magnetic susceptibility, and energy density for the Ising model indicate clear gains in sampling efficiency over conventional Gibbs sampling techniques with DBC and also over the conventionally used simulated tempering with the Metropolis–Hastings (MH) scheme. Simulations on ALA5 with a large number of temperatures indicate distinct gains in mixing times for inverse temperature and consequently the energy of the system compared to conventional MH. With no additional computational overhead, our methods were found to be more efficient alternatives to the conventionally used simulated tempering methods with DBC. Our algorithms should be particularly advantageous in simulations of large systems with many temperature ladders, as our algorithms showed a more favorable constant scaling in Ising spin systems as compared with both reversible and irreversible MH algorithms. In future applications, our irreversible methods can also be easily tailored to utilize a given dynamical variable other than temperature to flatten rugged free energy landscapes. Inspired by the research interest on the realization of flatbands and magnetization plateaus in kagome lattices, herein we study the electronic properties and exchange magnetic interactions in quasi-one-dimensional boron triangular kagome lattice (1D-BTKL) models by using the real-space Green’s function approach in a tight-binding model. First, we study the electronic properties of 1D-BTKLs in the presence of staggered sublattice potential, and then, by analyzing the Ruderman–Kittel–Kasuya–Yoshida (RKKY) interaction in these lattice structures, the magnetic ground states of 1D-BTKLs in the presence of two magnetic adatoms are evaluated. It is found that the 1D channels of BTKL show different electronic and magnetic behaviors due to different values of the hopping integrals and spin–orbit couplings. Two important salient features of 1D-BTKLs are the presence of flatbands in their band structures as well as the emergence of the RKKY plateau vs the Fermi energy. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that the RKKY plateau is systematically reported and as we will see this idea has been advocated forcefully. It was shown that both the width and location of the magnetization plateaus could be controlled through variation of the staggered potential and the Fermi energy as well as the spatial configuration of the magnetic impurities, enabling a variety of electromagnetic devices to be produced. The other fascinating feature of the present study is the magnetic susceptibility discontinuity, named as magnetization jump, which accompanies with the discontinuity in the magnetization curves. We believe that our results provide significant insights into designing further experiments to search for the realization of the flatbands and magnetization plateau phases in spintronics and pseudospin electronic devices based on TKLs. A new ionothermal synthesis utilizing 1-alkyl-pyridinium hexafluorophosphates [CxPy][PF6] (x = 2, 4, 6) led to the formation of highly crystalline single-phase ammonium cobalt trifluoride, (NH4)CoF3. Although ammonium transition-metal fluorides have been extensively studied with respect to their structural and magnetic properties, multiple aspects remain unclear. For that reason, the obtained (NH4)CoF3 has been investigated over a broad temperature range by means of single-crystal and powder x-ray diffraction as well as magnetization and specific heat measurements. In addition, energy-dispersive x-ray and vibrational spectroscopy as well as thermal analysis measurements were undertaken. (NH4)CoF3 crystallizes in the cubic perovskite structure and undergoes a structural distortion to a tetragonal phase at 127.7 K, which also is observable in the magnetic susceptibility measurements, which has not been observed before. A second magnetic phase transition occurring at 116.9 K is of second-order character. The bifurcation of the susceptibility curves indicates a canted antiferromagnetic ordering. At 2.5 K, susceptibility measurements point to a third phase change for (NH4)CoF3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A nanostructured NiBi3/α-Bi2O3 superconductor composite has been synthesized by the process of mechanical alloying through 19 h of high energy ball milling. The kinetics of formation is analyzed in detail by x-ray diffraction and the Rietveld method. A simple method is proposed to determine the crystallinity of the resulting sample by using the background Rietveld fitting that permits a quantitative analysis of the diffuse x-ray profile taking into account the air and Compton scattering. The diffuse scattering is attributed to the formation of a nanocluster of α-Bi2O3 which is confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and Raman measurements. The magnetic measurements show superconducting transition at around 4 K and the existence of NiBi3/α-Bi2O3 nanophases with a low irreversibility field at around 1.01 T at 2 K. Analysis of magnetic susceptibility and isothermal magnetic hysteresis of the NiBi3/α-Bi2O3 nanocomposite indicates the simultaneous existence of bulk superconductivity and ferromagnetism below 4 K.
