A study published in the medical journal Neurology suggests that LGBTQ+ individuals may have a higher risk of negative brain health outcomes, such as dementia and late-life depression, compared to cisgender and straight individuals. However, the study does not prove that sexual or gender diversity causes neurological diseases, only that there is an association. The researchers analyzed data from over 393,000 people and found that LGBTQ+ individuals were 15% more likely to develop negative brain health outcomes. Possible reasons for these disparities include discrimination, stress, access to healthcare, and policy and legal factors. The study also found that transgender women had a higher risk of stroke compared to cisgender individuals. [Extracted from the article]
