Quantum comparators hold substantial significance in the scientific community as fundamental components in a wide array of algorithms. In this research, we present an innovative approach where we explore the realm of comparator circuits, specifically focussing on three distinct circuit designs present in the literature. These circuits are notable for their use of T-gates, which have gained significant attention in circuit design due to their ability to enable the utilisation of error-correcting codes. However, it is important to note that T-gates come at a considerable computational cost. One of the key contributions of our work is the optimisation of the quantum gates used within these circuits. We articulate the proposed circuits employing Clifford+T gates, facilitating error correction code implementation. Additionally, we minimise T-gate usage, thereby reducing computational costs and fortifying circuit robustness against errors and environmental disturbances-essential for mitigating the effects of internal and external noise. Our methodology employs a bottom-up examination of comparator circuits, initiating with a detailed study of their gates. Subsequently, we systematically dissect the functions of these gates, thereby advancing towards a comprehensive understanding of the circuit's overall functionality. Forensic document examination has been considered one of the most important fields in the forensic science. For this, a quick, effective, and cheap techniques for evaluation of forensic evidence is highly required. This study explores the comparison of A4 document paper by chemical and physical analysis. 16 of white A4 paper from different brands were analyzed by FTIR for investigation of structural characteristics. Video Spectral Comparator 8000 has been used to compare the A4 papers under different light source. The inorganic filler composition in the paper is also explored by ICP‐OES. The calcium carbonate content in document papers play a discriminant role which found to be between 16.02 % and 35.54 %. Also, water contact angle has been utilized in order to examine the surface of paper which is generally related to the inorganic filler and other additives. The WCA results ranged between 83° and 111° that enable quick and easy way to compare A4 document papers. The experimental results have demonstrated that besides FTIR methods, other methods such as ICP‐OES for elemental composition, WCA for wetting test, VSC for visualization under different light of source could have been applied for comparison of document papers in case of criminal cases. Background: In April 2018, the UK government implemented a levy on soft drinks importers and manufacturers, tiered according to the amount of sugar in drinks. The stated aim was to encourage manufacturers to reduce sugar and portion sizes. Previous evidence suggests that the policy has been successful in reducing sugar in drinks in the short-term since implementation, but their sustained effects have not been explored. This study aimed to assess the impact of the soft drink industry levy (SDIL) on sugar levels, price, portion size and use of non-sugar sweeteners in the medium-term. Methods and findings: Product data from 30 November 2017 to 14 March 2020 from one major UK retail supermarket were analysed (112,452 observations, 126 weekly time points). We used interrupted time series analysis, to assess the impact of the soft-drink industry levy (SDIL) on levy-eligible soft drinks, with exempt drinks (i.e. 100% fruit juices, milks, flavoured milks) acting as a comparator series. At the point of implementation of the SDIL (April 2018) there was a step change in the proportion of eligible drinks with sugar content below the SDIL levy threshold (5g per 100ml) (+0.08, 95%CI: +0.04, +0.12), with a similar sized decrease in the proportion in the highest levy category (> = 8g sugar per 100ml) (-0.06, 95%CI: -0.10, -0.03). Between April 2018 and March 2020, the proportion of eligible drinks below the SDIL levy threshold continued to gradually increase (p = 0.003), while those in the highest levy category decreased (p = 0.007). There was a step change in price of eligible drinks in the higher levy category at the point of implementation of +£0.049 (95%CI: +£0.034, +£0.065) per 100mL (for comparison, the levy is set at £0.024 per 100mL for this group). Trends in price for the high levy category were not altered by the SDIL. In the no levy category, there was a step change in price at the implementation (+£0.012 per 100mL, 95%CI: +£0.008, +£0.023), followed by a second step change in October 2018 (-£0.018p per 100mL, 95%CI: -£0.033, -£0.001p). The volume of products in the higher levy group decreased at the time of the implementation (-305mL on average including multipacks, 95%CI: -511, -99). The change in trend for the product volume of drinks in the higher levy group between April 2018 and March 2020 was in the increasing direction (+704mL per year, 95%CI: -95, 1504), but it did not meet our threshold for statistical significance (p = 0.084). There were no changes observed in the volume of lower levy drinks or no levy drinks. There was a step change in the proportion of drinks with non-sugar sweeteners at the implementation of the SDIL (+0.04, 95%CI: +0.02, +0.06). Conclusion: These results suggest that the SDIL was successful in [1] producing reductions in sugar levels that were maintained over the medium term up to March 2020 and [2] a reduction in product volume for higher tier drinks that may be diminishing over time. Compression garments (CGs) are commonly used in rehabilitation and sports contexts to enhance performance and speed up recovery. Despite the growing use of CGs in recent decades, there is no unanimous consensus on their overall influence on joint proprioception. In this current meta‐analysis, we aim to fill this knowledge gap by assessing the impact of CGs on joint proprioception. We conducted a literature search across seven databases and one registry. Ultimately, we included 27 studies with 671 participants. The meta‐analysis revealed that wearing CGs resulted in a significant reduction in absolute error during joint position sensing (Hedges' g: −0.64, p = 0.006) as compared to no CGs. However, further analyses of variables such as constant error (p = 0.308), variable error (p = 0.541) during joint position sense tests, threshold to detect passive motion (p = 0.757), and active movement extent discrimination (p = 0.842) did not show a significant impact of CGs. The review also identified gaps in the reporting of certain outcomes, such as parameters of CGs, reporting of performance, individual‐reported outcomes, and lack of placebo comparators. Consequently, this review provides guidelines for future studies that may facilitate evidence‐based synthesis and ultimately contribute to a better understanding of the overall influence of CGs on joint proprioception. This paper presents a 14-bit hybrid column-parallel compact analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for the application of digital infrared focal plane arrays (IRFPAs) with compromised power and speed performance. The proposed hybrid ADC works in two phases: in the first phase, a 7-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC performs coarse quantization; in the second phase, a 7-bit single-slope (SS) ADC performs fine quantization to complete the residue voltage conversion. In this work, the number of unit capacitors is reduced to 1/128th of that of a conventional 14-bit SAR ADC, which is beneficial for the application of small pixel-pitch IRFPAs. In this work, a tradeoff segmented thermometer-coded digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is adopted in the first 7-bit coarse quantization process: the lower 3-bit is binary coded, and the upper 4-bit is thermometer coded. A thermometer-coded DAC can improve the linearity of ADC. Capacitor array matching can be incredibly relaxed compared with a binary-weight 14-bit SAR ADC, resulting in a noncalibration feature. Moreover, by sharing DAC and comparator analog circuits between the SAR ADC and the SS ADC, the power consumption and layout area are consequently reduced. The proposed hybrid ADC was fabricated using a 180 nm CMOS process. The measurement results show that the proposed ADC has a differential nonlinearity of −0.61/+0.84 LSB and a sampling rate of 120 kS/s. The developed ADC achieves a temporal noise of 1.7 LSBrms at a temperature of 77 K. In addition, the SNDR is 72.9 dB, and the ENOB is 11.82 bit, respectively. Probabilistic computing can solve complex combinatorial optimization problems more efficiently than conventional deterministic computing. A probabilistic bit (p‐bit) with an n‐p‐n bistable resistor (biristor) is demonstrated for probabilistic computing. It is fabricated on an 8‐inch wafer with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) compatible technologies. Its stochastic behavior of threshold switching, which is based on the phenomenon of a single transistor latch, provides output with a Boltzmann distribution. The p‐bit is composed of a biristor, a serial resistor, and a comparator. The output probability of the biristor‐based p‐bits shows a sigmoidal relationship with the input voltage, showing typical p‐bit characteristics. Invertible Boolean logic operations with p‐bits are demonstrated, and weighted maximum Boolean satisfiability problems are solved with high energy efficiency and accuracy. The biristor‐based p‐bits with perfect CMOS compatibility show sufficient device stability, demonstrating the possibility of large‐scale integration with a p‐bit array for complex optimization solvers. Value of Information (VOI) analyses calculate the economic value that could be generated by obtaining further information to reduce uncertainty in a health economic decision model. VOI has been suggested as a tool for research prioritisation and trial design as it can highlight economically valuable avenues for future research. Recent methodological advances have made it increasingly feasible to use VOI in practice for research; however, there are critical differences between the VOI approach and the standard methods used to design research studies such as clinical trials. We aimed to highlight key differences between the research design approach based on VOI and standard clinical trial design methods, in particular the importance of considering the full decision context. We present two hypothetical examples to demonstrate that VOI methods are only accurate when (1) all feasible comparators are included in the decision model when designing research, and (2) all comparators are retained in the decision model once the data have been collected and a final treatment recommendation is made. Omitting comparators from either the design or analysis phase of research when using VOI methods can lead to incorrect trial designs and/or treatment recommendations. Overall, we conclude that incorrectly specifying the health economic model by ignoring potential comparators can lead to misleading VOI results and potentially waste scarce research resources. This research aimed to develop best-practice recommendations for identifying the "standard of care" (SoC) and integrate it when it is the comparator in diagnostic economic models (SoC comparator). A multi-methods approach comprising 2 pragmatic literature reviews and 9 expert interviews was used. Experts rated their agreement with draft recommendations based on the authors' analysis of the reviews. These were refined iteratively to produce final recommendations. Fourteen best-practice recommendations are provided. Care pathway mapping (using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches) should be used for identifying the SoC comparator. Guidelines analysis can be integrated with expert opinion to identify pathway variability and discrepancies from clinical practice. For integrating the SoC comparator into the model, recommendations around structure, input sourcing, data aggregation and reporting, input uncertainty, and model variability are presented. For example, modelers should consider that the reference standard is not synonymous with the SoC, and the SoC may not be the only comparator. The comparator limitations should be discussed with clinical experts, but elicitation of its diagnostic accuracy is not recommended. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis is recommended when evaluating the overall input uncertainty, and deterministic sensitivity analysis is useful when there is high model uncertainty or SoC variability. Consensus could not be reached for some topics (eg, the role of real-world data, model averaging, and alternative model structures), but the reported discussions provide points for consideration. To our knowledge, this is the first guidance to support modelers when identifying and operationalizing the SoC comparator in diagnostic cost-effectiveness models. • Modeling the cost-effectiveness requires a comparison of the new diagnostic and patient management strategy with a comparator, often a complex standard of care (SoC) pathway. The new diagnostic test can replace or, more commonly, be integrated with the diagnostic SoC pathway. This presents 2 main challenges in obtaining useful estimates of cost-effectiveness: (1) identifying the diagnostic SoC pathway to define the comparator and (2) integrating it into the model. • We identified possible methodological approaches through pragmatic literature reviews and expert interviews. Some examples are to identify the SoC comparator via mapping the care pathway through qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods approaches; to select data on the diagnostic accuracy of the SoC comparator from studies in which the reference standard is the one used for the new test and report detailed information of the data source; and to assess the impact of the SoC pathway variability through scenario analysis. • We provide 14 recommendations that can support modelers to minimize the risk of a misrepresentation of the incremental clinical utility of the new diagnostic test because of the uncertainty and variability of the SoC comparator. Objectives Staphylococcus epidermidis bone and joint infections (BJIs) on material are often difficult to treat. The activity of delafloxacin has not yet been studied on S. epidermidis in this context. The aim of this study was to assess its in vitro activity compared with other fluoroquinolones, against a large collection of S. epidermidis clinical strains. Methods We selected 538 S. epidermidis strains isolated between January 2015 and February 2023 from six French teaching hospitals. One hundred and fifty-two strains were ofloxacin susceptible and 386 were ofloxacin resistant. Identifications were performed by MS and MICs were determined using gradient concentration strips for ofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin and delafloxacin. Results Ofloxacin-susceptible strains were susceptible to all fluoroquinolones. Resistant strains had higher MICs of all fluoroquinolones. Strains resistant to ofloxacin (89.1%) still showed susceptibility to delafloxacin when using the Staphylococcus aureus 2021 CA-SFM/EUCAST threshold of 0.25 mg/L. In contrast, only 3.9% of the ofloxacin-resistant strains remained susceptible to delafloxacin with the 0.016 mg/L S. aureus breakpoint according to CA-SFM/EUCAST guidelines in 2022. The MIC50 was 0.094 mg/L and the MIC90 was 0.38 mg/L. Conclusions We showed low delafloxacin MICs for ofloxacin-susceptible S. epidermidis strains and a double population for ofloxacin-resistant strains. Despite the absence of breakpoints for S. epidermidis , delafloxacin may be an option for the treatment of complex BJI, including strains with MICs of ≤0.094 mg/L, leading to 64% susceptibility. External comparator (EC) studies are increasingly being used to generate evidence that supports the evaluation of emerging pharmacological treatments for regulatory and health technology assessment (HTA) purposes. However, the reliability of evidence generated from EC studies can vary. In this paper, we outline how an existing framework for causal inference, the target trial emulation (TTE) framework, can be appropriately applied to improve the design and analysis of EC studies. Applying the TTE framework involves specifying the protocol of an ideal target trial which would answer the causal question of interest, then emulating its key elements under real-world (RW) settings. We describe each component of the original TTE framework and explain how it can be applied to EC studies, supplemented with practical recommendations. We also highlight special considerations and limitations in applying the TTE framework to EC studies. Studying how sensory signals from different sources (sensory cues) are integrated within or across multiple senses allows us to better understand the perceptual computations that lie at the foundation of adaptive behaviour. As such, determining the presence of precision gains – the classic hallmark of cue combination – is important for characterising perceptual systems, their development and functioning in clinical conditions. However, empirically measuring precision gains to distinguish cue combination from alternative perceptual strategies requires careful methodological considerations. Here, we note that the majority of existing studies that tested for cue combination either omitted this important contrast, or used an analysis approach that, unknowingly, strongly inflated false positives. Using simulations, we demonstrate that this approach enhances the chances of finding significant cue combination effects in up to 100% of cases, even when cues are not combined. We establish how this error arises when the wrong cue comparator is chosen and recommend an alternative analysis that is easy to implement but has only been adopted by relatively few studies. By comparing combined-cue perceptual precision with the best single-cue precision, determined for each observer individually rather than at the group level, researchers can enhance the credibility of their reported effects. We also note that testing for deviations from optimal predictions alone is not sufficient to ascertain whether cues are combined. Taken together, to correctly test for perceptual precision gains, we advocate for a careful comparator selection and task design to ensure that cue combination is tested with maximum power, while reducing the inflation of false positives. Digital health definitions are abundant, but often lack clarity and precision. We aimed to develop a minimum information framework to define patient-facing digital health interventions (DHIs) for outcomes research. Definitions of digital-health-related terms (DHTs) were systematically reviewed, followed by a content analysis using frameworks, including PICOTS (population, intervention, comparator, outcome, timing, and setting), Shannon-Weaver Model of Communication, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Measures, and the World Health Organization's Classification of Digital Health Interventions. Subsequently, we conducted an online Delphi study to establish a minimum information framework, which was pilot tested by 5 experts using hypothetical examples. After screening 2610 records and 545 full-text articles, we identified 101 unique definitions of 67 secondary DHTs in 76 articles, resulting in 95 different patterns of concepts among the definitions. World Health Organization system (84.5%), message (75.7%), intervention (58.3%), and technology (52.4%) were the most frequently covered concepts. For the Delphi survey, we invited 47 members of the ISPOR Digital Health Special Interest Group, 18 of whom became the Delphi panel. The first, second, and third survey rounds were completed by 18, 11, and 10 respondents, respectively. After consolidating results, the PICOTS-ComTeC acronym emerged, involving 9 domains (population, intervention, comparator, outcome, timing, setting, communication, technology, and context) and 32 optional subcategories. Patient-facing DHIs can be specified using PICOTS-ComTeC that facilitates identification of appropriate interventions and comparators for a given decision. PICOTS-ComTeC is a flexible and versatile tool, intended to assist authors in designing and reporting primary studies and evidence syntheses, yielding actionable results for clinicians and other decision makers. • Abundant, yet vaguely defined definitions in digital health represent a challenge for clinicians, decision makers, developers, and researchers. Despite having several guidelines/checklists for the standardization of evidence generation and assessment for digital health interventions (DHIs), the identification of comparable DHIs remains difficult because of their personalized nature, complex technologies, and linkages to larger systems. This may restrict the validity of evidence syntheses. • We introduce the PICOTS-ComTeC (population, intervention, comparator, outcome, timing, setting, communication, technology, and context) framework, a newly developed, flexible, and versatile tool to help the formulation of sufficiently specific and detailed definitions for patient-facing digital health interventions and related research questions. • To overcome the limitations of terminology in digital health, the PICOTS-ComTeC framework of patient-facing DHIs should be specified in sufficient detail, to allow the identification of comparable interventions and allow for the selection of appropriate comparators that deliver similar effects to patients; therefore, the fit of DHIs in clinical, financing or development decision contexts, and specific research questions can be assessed. Summary: Corticosteroids remain the first‐line treatment of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), but increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Bisphosphonates are used for the treatment of osteoporosis, but their usage among patients with ITP has not been systemically described. We investigated the risk of fractures and the use of bisphosphonates in adult patients with primary (pITP) and secondary ITP (sITP) compared with matched comparators in a nationwide registry‐based cohort study. We identified 4030 patients with pITP (median age 60 years [IQR, 40–74]), 550 with sITP (median age 59 years [IQR, 43–74]) and 182 939 age–sex‐matched general population comparators. All individuals were followed for incident fractures. Bisphosphonate use was estimated for calendar‐years and in temporal relation to the ITP diagnosis. Adjusted cause‐specific hazard ratio (csHR) for any fracture was 1.37 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.23; 1.54) for pITP and 1.54 (1.17; 2.03) for sITP. The first‐year csHR was 1.82 (1.39; 2.40) for pITP and 2.78 (1.58; 4.91) for sITP. Bisphosphonate use over calendar‐years and in the early years following ITP diagnosis was higher among patients with ITP diagnosis compared with the general population. In conclusion, the risk of fractures and the use of bisphosphonates are higher in patients with ITP compared with the general population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Comparing the performance of different continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems is challenging due to the lack of comprehensive guidelines for clinical study design. In particular, the absence of concise requirements for the distribution of comparator (reference) blood glucose (BG) concentrations and their rate of change (RoC) that are used to evaluate CGM performance, impairs comparability. For this article, several experts in the field of CGM performance testing have collaborated to propose characteristics of the distribution of comparator measurements that should be collected during CGM performance testing. Specifically, it is proposed that at least 7.5% of comparator BG concentrations are <70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) and >300 mg/dL (16.7 mmol/L), respectively, and that at least 7.5% of BG-RoC combinations indicate fast BG changes with impending hypo- or hyperglycemia, respectively. These proposed characteristics of the comparator data can facilitate the harmonization of testing conditions across different studies and CGM systems and ensure that the most relevant scenarios representing real-life situations are established during performance testing. In addition, a study protocol and testing procedure for the manipulation of glucose levels are suggested that enable the collection of comparator data with these characteristics. This letter presents a low‐power single‐slope analog‐to‐digital converter (ADC) for column‐parallel architectures. A simple and effective design technique is proposed to solve the input‐dependent power consumption problem of the conventional single‐slope ADCs. A decision‐feedback loop is implemented in the second stage of the comparator. Based on the negative‐feedback path, which is activated after the signal decision of the comparator, the input‐dependent dynamic current path in the amplifier is disabled. Furthermore, an additional low‐power design technique is proposed to save the power consumption of the ADC by optimizing the offset cancelling auto‐zero period. With the combination of the proposed techniques, the power consumption of the single‐slope ADC can be effectively saved while suppressing the dynamic current. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a novel dynamic bias latch‐type comparator combined with a voltage‐controlled delay line (VCDL), designed specifically for low‐power and low‐noise applications in high‐speed analog‐to‐digital converters (ADCs). The incorporation of the VCDL precedes the dynamic bias amplifier in the proposed comparator, thereby achieving a balance between energy efficiency and high‐speed operation. This innovative design enhances the input common voltage of the dynamic bias amplifier through the utilization of the VCDL, surpassing that of a conventional dynamic bias comparator. Furthermore, it demonstrates increased adaptability in technology scaling and efficient operation at lower supply voltages, leveraging inverters and other simple cells. The proposed comparator in 28 nm process technology achieves a 309.7 µV input‐referred noise while consuming approximately 145.8 fJ and completing comparisons in 125 ps with a 0.9 V supply and a 0.45 V input common‐mode voltage. An 11-bit, power efficiency, two-stage SAR-voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) hybrid ADC is proposed in this work. Taking full advantage of the voltage-to-phase and voltage-to-frequency characteristics, the reused ring-VCO circuit acts as not only a time-domain comparator with the phase detector assistance for low power consumption in the first SAR stage but also a fine quantizer in the second stage. More importantly, the gain nonlinearity of the VCO can be effectively suppressed due to the small residue voltage after the coarse quantization. In addition, the VCO-based ADC (except for the ring-VCO circuit) only works in the quantization phase instead of the whole conversion period. As a result, the power consumption and area of the comparator in the previous SAR-VCO ∆Σ ADC can be thoroughly avoided. Besides, compared to an 11-bit SAR ADC, the capacitor mismatch can be relaxed theoretically by 2 × in the identical capacitor array area. Post-simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ADC in a 0.18 μm CMOS process exhibits a signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) of 63.8 dB, and it dissipates 2.1 μW power from a 0.6 V supply with a sampling rate of 50 kS/s and a Nyquist input rate. To the author's knowledge, the hybrid ADC can achieve the best Walden figure of merit (FoMw) of 33.3 fJ/conversion-step compared with the previous SAR-VCO hybrid ADC, and its active area is only 0.109 mm2. The emergence of quantum computers is having an impact on almost every field of engineering. Electrical drives, in particular, can benefit from the power of quantum computing. This paper presents a quantum version of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) algorithm, which is used widely to control electrical motors. The proposed algorithm is implemented using a real number comparator, which is novel to the authors' knowledge. Unlike other quantum comparators in the literature, which provide quantum versions of binary-based comparators, the suggested comparator compares real numbers ranging from 0 to 100%, making it more usable in practice for many industrial applications, particularly control. When applied to DC motor speed control, the quantum PWM controller achieved similar speed precision to the classical version, but with lower energy consumption and less switching. It could therefore significantly increase the lifetime of power devices while achieving similar control performance at lower energy consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We propose a hybrid quantum approach to threshold and binarize a grayscale image through unsharp measurements (UM) relying on image histogram. Generally, the histograms are characterized by multiple overlapping normal distributions corresponding to objects, or image features with small but significant overlaps, making it challenging to establish suitable thresholds. The proposed methodology uses peaks of the overlapping Gaussians and the distance between neighboring local minima as the variance, based on which the UM parameters are chosen, that maps the normal distribution into a localized delta function. To demonstrate its efficacy, subsequent implementation is done on noisy quantum environments in Qiskit. This process is iteratively repeated for a multimodal histogram to obtain more thresholds, which are then applied to various life-like pictures to get high-contrast images, resulting in comparable peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity index measure values. The obtained thresholds are used to binarize a grayscale image by using novel enhanced quantum image representation integrated with a threshold encoder and an efficient quantum comparator (QC) that depicts the whole binarized picture. For the calibration of linear scales, comparators are generally used. Comparators are devices that enable the movement of an evaluation apparatus over a calibrated scale along a linear base with high precision. The construction of a comparator includes a movable carriage that carries the device for the evaluation of the position of the given edge of the line scale relative to the beginning of the scale. In principle, it involves a camera capturing the scale of the measurer, where the position of the camera's projection center is measured using an interferometer. This article addresses the development of a comparator assembled from low-cost components, as well as the description of systematic influences related to the movement of individual parts of the system, such as the inclination and rotation of the camera and directional and height deviations during the carriage's movement. This article also includes an evaluation of the edge of the given scale with subpixel accuracy, addressing distortion elimination and excluding the influences of impurities or imperfections on the scale. The estimand framework as defined by the ICH E9(R1) addendum aims to clearly define "the treatment effect reflecting the clinical question posed by the trial objective". It intends to achieve this goal of a clear definition by specifying the 5 estimand attributes: treatment conditions, population, endpoints, handling of intercurrent events (IEs), and population-level summary. However, hybrid clinical/observational research like External Comparators (ECs) leads to new reflections on existing attributes and to considerations for additional ones. Specifically, treatment conditions and exposure may be more difficult to handle in the EC, and especially Standard of Care (SoC) treatment needs detailed attention. The external population typically cannot be based on the classical Intention-to-treat population and constitutes also an approximation only. Endpoints may not be comparable across cohorts, and IEs may be more different than in an RCT setting, such that the hypothetical treatment policy according to the ICH E9(R1) addendum may become of greater interest especially for long-term endpoints. Finally, the necessary assumptions for some population-level summaries (e.g., the proportional hazards assumption) can become more fragile when joining data from different sources due to induced heterogeneity. Though there is only one term for the gold standard of Randomized Controlled Trials the terminology used for controlled research involving external data is diverse. Common terms include External Comparator/Control Arm study, Externally Controlled Trial, Synthetic Control study and Historical Control study. The term Externally Controlled Trial was recently selected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is in line with the use case of a pivotal trial. It entails pre-specification of the external dataset and its analysis in the trial protocol, which produces the highest amount of transparency, which is an important aspect for maximum credibility. If this pre-specification did not occur, we advocate the term External Comparator Cohort study (or short External Comparator study), which is derived by scrutinizing the paired terms study/trial, control/comparator and arm/cohort. Furthermore, we propose an overall framework of nomenclature, which is generally applicable for research projects involving external data. Background: Pragmatic trials evaluating complex health interventions often compare them to usual care. This comparator should resemble care as provided in everyday practice. However, usual care can differ for the same condition, between patients and practitioners, across clinical sites and over time. Heterogeneity within a usual care arm can raise methodological and ethical issues. To address these it may be necessary to standardise what usual care entails, although doing so may compromise a trial's external validity. Currently, there is no guidance detailing how researchers should decide the content of their usual care comparators. We conducted a methodology review to summarise current thinking about what should inform this decision. Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and PsycINFO were searched from inception to January 2022. Articles and book chapters that discussed how to identify or develop usual care comparators were included. Experts in the field were also contacted. Reference lists and forward citation searches of included articles were screened. Data were analysed using a narrative synthesis approach. Results: One thousand nine hundred thirty records were identified, 1611 titles and abstracts screened, 112 full texts screened, and 16 articles included in the review. Results indicated that the content of a usual care comparator should be informed by the aims of the trial, existing care practices, clinical guidelines, and characteristics of the target population. Its content should also be driven by the trial's requirements to protect participants, inform practice, and be methodologically robust, efficient, feasible and acceptable to stakeholders. When deciding the content of usual care, researchers will need to gather information about these drivers, balance tensions that might occur when responding to different trial objectives, and decide how usual care will be described and monitored in the trial. Discussion: When deciding the content of a usual care arm, researchers need to understand the context in which a trial will be implemented and what the trial needs to achieve to address its aim and remain ethical. This is a complex decision-making process and trade-offs might need to be made. This paper presents CMOS and CNFET based hysteresis voltage comparators for low-voltage applications. The proposed CMOS and CNFET hysteresis comparators require merely 1.6 and 0.26 µW of power, respectively, which is less than one tenth of the power dissipated by the other advanced hysteresis comparators designs available in literature. The propagation delay observed in the proposed CMOS and CNFET hysteresis comparators are 162 and 47 ps, respectively, which is almost half the delay exhibited by the other hysteresis comparators. Overall, a 93–99% reduction in Power Delay Product (PDP) can be achieved. Furthermore, the proposed design requires only nine transistors compared to the 11–17 transistor requirement in conventional hysteresis comparators, thus saving up to 47% of chip area. Reducing delay, power consumption, and chip area of a logic circuit are the main targets of a digital circuit designer. Most of the times, the designer sacrifices power consumption and chip area to decrease delay for a given technology node. To overcome this problem, we propose the ternary threshold logic gate. We have implemented the proposed gate by combining the threshold logic with the ternary logic. Then, we have constructed basic building blocks of a ternary ALU (as ternary logic gates, comparator, and arithmetic circuits) using the proposed ternary threshold logic gate. We have compared these building blocks and implemented with the proposed gate, with the ones implemented using different technologies. Via simulations, we have shown that the proposed gate may be utilized to decrease delay, power consumption, and chip area of ternary circuits. This letter proposes a W‐band multimode monopulse horn (MMH) feed to improve the total efficiency (TE) of the reflector antenna. The feed consists of a MMH and a single‐layer comparator. The MMH utilizes one pyramidal horn and four rectangular waveguides (RWGs) for feeding. The eight electric modes required in the MMH yield excellent sum and difference patterns. The impact of unwanted modes is suppressed using a 90° phase difference approach. The comparator contains four novel 3 dB couplers and E‐plane RWGs, providing low loss and high multiport transmission performance. The MMH feed has been fabricated, tested, and applied to a Cassegrain antenna. The measured maximal TE for the Cassegrain antenna between 90 and 97 GHz is 54.9%. The realized gain of the sum beam is 40.3 dBi at 93.5 GHz. The null depths of difference beams in the azimuth and elevation planes are about −37.7 and −29.1 dB, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To assess how long participants with type 2 diabetes spent with HbA1c less than 7.0% and how likely they were to maintain this target with oral semaglutide 7 mg versus sitagliptin 100 mg or oral semaglutide 14 mg versus empagliflozin 25 mg, sitagliptin 100 mg or subcutaneous liraglutide 1.8 mg. Materials and Methods: Analyses used on‐treatment data without rescue medication for all randomized participants (semaglutide [approved maintenance doses], n = 1880; comparators [not including placebo], n = 1412). Duration of time with HbA1c less than 7.0% was calculated using an HbA1c time curve. A binary endpoint of achieving HbA1c less than 7.0% at weeks 26 (week 24 for PIONEER 7) and 52 of each trial (and week 78 for PIONEER 3) was analysed. Results: Mean duration of time with HbA1c less than 7.0% was greater with oral semaglutide 7 mg versus sitagliptin in PIONEER 3 (27 vs. 22 weeks) and with oral semaglutide 14 mg versus empagliflozin and sitagliptin (27‐34 vs. 19 vs. 22 weeks, respectively), and similar versus subcutaneous liraglutide. A greater proportion of participants achieved and maintained HbA1c less than 7.0% for more than 75% of the trial with oral semaglutide 14 mg versus oral comparators. The odds of achieving HbA1c less than 7.0% at weeks 24/26 and 52/78 were significantly greater with oral semaglutide 14 mg versus oral comparators or subcutaneous liraglutide, and with oral semaglutide 7 mg versus sitagliptin. Conclusions: Oral semaglutide 7 and 14 mg resulted in greater time spent with HbA1c less than 7.0%, and a greater likelihood of achieving and maintaining HbA1c less than 7.0% versus oral comparators. This paper presents the realization of binary and floating-point comparators on FPGA. The implementation is done by exploiting the primitive instantiation of FPGA resources which has enabled a significant improvement in resource utilization in terms of Look-Up Table (LUT) usage and overall combinational path delay when compared to the conventional inference approach. The comparator architectures are implemented using Vivado 2020.1 and ISE Design Suite 14.7 environment on multiple Xilinx FPGA platforms and are compared with the existing designs. The results indicate an improvement of 33.33% and 45.45% in LUT utilization, 14.41% and 30.73% in delay for 32-bit and 64-bit binary comparators respectively, compared to the existing architectures. The proposed floating-point comparator requires 88.57% and 285.29% lesser LUTs for single precision and double precision representation respectively, compared to the existing design. Background: Well‐designed randomized trials provide high‐quality clinical evidence but are not always feasible or ethical. In their absence, the electronic medical record (EMR) presents a platform to conduct comparative effectiveness research, central to the emerging academic learning health system (aLHS) model. A barrier to realizing this vision is the lack of a process to efficiently generate a reference comparison group for each patient. Objective: To test a multi‐step process for the selection of comparators in the EMR. Materials and Methods: We conducted a mixed‐methods study within a large aLHS in North Carolina. We (1) created a list of 35 candidate variables; (2) surveyed 270 researchers to assess the importance of candidate variables; and (3) built consensus rankings around survey‐identified variables (ie, importance scores >7) across two panels of 7–8 clinical research experts. Prioritized algorithm inputs were collected from the EMR and applied using a greedy matching technique. Feasibility was measured as the percentage of patients with 100 matched comparators and performance was measured via computational time and Euclidean distance. Results: Nine variables were selected: age, sex, race, ethnicity, body mass index, insurance status, smoking status, Charlson Comorbidity Index, and neighborhood percentage in poverty. The final process successfully generated 100 matched comparators for each of 1.8 million candidate patients, executed in less than 100 min for the majority of strata, and had average Euclidean distance 0.043. Conclusion: EMR‐derived matching is feasible to implement across a diverse patient population and can provide a reproducible, efficient source of comparator data for observational studies, with additional testing in clinical research applications needed. Climate models' capability of reproducing the present climate at both global and regional scales still needs improvements. The assessment of model performance critically depends on the data sets used as comparators/references. Reanalysis and gridded observational data sets have been frequently used for this purpose. However, none of these can be considered an accurate reference data set because of their associated uncertainties and full representativity. This paper, for the first time, uses in‐situ measurements from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN) spanning the period 2006–2020 to assess daily temperature and precipitation from a suite of dynamically downscaled regional climate models (RCMs; driven by ERA‐Interim) involved in NA‐CORDEX. The assessment is also extended to the most recent and widely used Earth system reanalyses (ERA5, ERA‐Interim, MERRA2 and NARR) and a few in situ‐based gridded data sets (Daymet, PRISM, Livneh and CPC). Results show that biases for the different data sets are seasonally and subregionally dependent. On average, reanalysis and in situ‐based gridded data sets are warmer (with biases exceeding 0.3°C) than USCRN year‐round, while RCMs are colder (warmer) in winter (summer) with biases ranging from −0.5 (0.9)°C for RCMs at 0.44° to −0.2 (1.4)°C for CRCM5‐UQAM‐11. In situ‐based gridded data sets provide the best performance in most of the Contiguous United States (CONUS) regions compared to reanalyses and RCMs, but still have biases in regions such as the Western mountains and the Pacific Northwest. Furthermore, in most US subregions, reanalysis data sets do not outperform reanalysis‐driven RCMs. Likewise, for both reanalysis data sets and RCMs, temperature and precipitation biases vary considerably depending on the local orography, with larger temperature biases for coarser model resolutions and precipitation biases for reanalysis. Aim: To compare the proportion of participants with type 2 diabetes (T2D) treated with once‐weekly (OW) subcutaneous (SC) semaglutide versus comparators who achieved a composite metabolic endpoint. Materials and Methods: SUSTAIN 1‐5, 7‐10 and SUSTAIN China trial data were pooled. Participants with T2D (aged ≥18 years) and glycated haemoglobin ≥7.0% (≥53 mmol/mol) who had been randomized to OW SC semaglutide (0.5 or 1.0 mg) or comparator in addition to background medication. Using patient‐level data pooled by treatment, proportions of participants achieving the metabolic composite endpoint, defined as glycated haemoglobin <7% (<53 mmol/mol), blood pressure <140/90 mmHg and non‐high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol <130 mg/dl (<3.37 mmol/L), were evaluated following baseline adjustments. Endpoints were analysed per trial using a binomial logistic regression model with treatment, region/country and stratification factor as fixed effects and baseline value as covariate. Pooled analysis used logistic regression with treatment and trial as fixed effects and baseline value as covariate. Results: This post hoc analysis included data from 7633 participants across 10 trials. The proportion of participants who achieved the metabolic composite endpoint was significantly higher with OW SC semaglutide 0.5 and 1.0 mg versus comparators (23.7% and 32.0% vs. 11.5%, respectively; p <.0001). Likewise, when the OW SC semaglutide doses were pooled, significantly higher proportions of patients receiving semaglutide achieved the composite metabolic endpoint versus comparators (29.1% vs. 11.4%, respectively; p <.0001). BACKGROUND: Hospital at Home (H@H) programs--which seek to deliver acute care within a patient's home--have become more prevalent over time. However, existing literature exhibits heterogeneity in program structure, evaluation design, and target population size, making it difficult to draw generalizable conclusions to inform future H@H program design. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this work was to develop a quality improvement evaluation strategy for a H@H program--the Kaiser Permanente Advanced Care at Home (KPACAH) program in Northern California--leveraging electronic health record data, chart review, and patient surveys to compare KPACAH patients with inpatients in traditional hospital settings. METHODS: The authors developed a 3-step recruitment workflow that used electronic health record filtering tools to generate a daily list of potential comparators, a manual chart review of potentially eligible comparator patients to assess individual clinical and social criteria, and a phone interview with patients to affirm eligibility and interest from potential comparator patients. RESULTS: This workflow successfully identified and enrolled a population of 446 comparator patients in a 5-month period who exhibited similar demographics, reasons for hospitalization, comorbidity burden, and utilization measures to patients enrolled in the KPACAH program. CONCLUSION: These initial findings provide promise for a workflow that can facilitate the identification of similar inpatients hospitalized at traditional brick and mortar facilities to enhance outcomes evaluations for the H@H programs, as well as to identify the potential volume of enrollees as the program expands. Analog–digital converters (ADCs) are electronic circuits that convert continuous time signals into digital signals (binary data) for analyzing, estimation, and transmission. Transceivers use ADC in the baseband stage of receiver to convert the analog signals to digital form for further signal processing. At high-frequency applications, like millimeter wave applications, the ADC consumes more power due to the high sampling rate with respect to the increased bandwidth. In this article, a novel dynamic comparator is presented with delay and power analysis for the design. The expression is derived for all operational regions of the transistor. The new design is proposed for low-power consumption and reduced delay of the circuit. The novel design overcomes the drawbacks of the less operating frequency range, high latency, and more power dissipation of existing comparator designs. The proposed low-power dynamic comparator is simulated with 45 nm CMOS technology that provides total power dissipation of 33.92 µW, delay of 19.71 ps, and energy per conversion of 0.19 fJ/conv. with a supply voltage of 1 V. TOAD or Tera Hertz Optical Asymmetric Demultiplexer is an optical switch. Using this switch, we have invented an optical comparator. This optical comparator circuit is very simple in structure with a higher speed (200 Gbps) and finds useful application in optical computation and communication network system. We have simulated all three outputs in detail and shown the eye diagram of all three outputs of the optical comparator. Filters are used to remove the different types of noises including salt and pepper, Gaussian, and random noises from image. Therefore, the VLSI oriented hardware implementation of filters plays the crucial role in real time applications. However, the conventional hardware-based filters are failed to reduce the look-up-table (LUT)s, path delays, and power consumption. Therefore, this work is focused on implementation of Gammatone Median Filter (GMF) using Data Comparator (DC) logic. Initially, the multiplexer selection logic-based data comparator is used to identify the high and low values from two numbers. Then, data comparator is repeated for multiple numbers of times for nine pixels combinations, which identifies the median value from nine pixels. The subjective and objective evaluation shows that the proposed GMF-DC resulted in superior performance in terms reduced noise, hardware metrics like LUTs, delay, and power consumption as compared to state of art approaches. Researchers using the ascent of human scale (AOH) to study dehumanization typically include filler groups in addition to the main comparator groups, to hide the true intent of the study. However, there is little work examining the impact of filler group choice on dehumanization ratings between groups of interest. Across two studies (including one pre-registered study) we manipulated the salience of a target out-group (i.e., the extent to which the group stood out) by embedding it within lists of other groups. By comparing AOH ratings across three conditions in which the target out-group was either high salience, medium salience, or low salience, we were able to determine the effects of target out-group salience on dehumanization. In study 1, we included participants' in-group (Canadian) in the list, and in study 2, we did not include participants in-group in the list. Results from study 1 showed that group salience had no impact on AOH ratings for the out-group when the participant in-group was included in the list. However, in study 2, when participant in-group was removed from the list, ratings for the out-group in the high salience condition were significantly lower than both the medium and low salience conditions. Malaria transmission-blocking vaccines target mosquito-stage parasites and will support elimination programmes. Gamete vaccine Pfs230D1-EPA/Alhydrogel induced superior activity to zygote vaccine Pfs25-EPA/Alhydrogel in malaria-naive US adults. Here, we compared these vaccines in malaria-experienced Malians. We did a pilot safety study then double-blind, block-randomised, comparator-controlled main-phase trial in malaria-intense Bancoumana, Mali. 18–50-year-old healthy non-pregnant, non-breastfeeding consenting adult residents were randomly assigned (1:1:1:1) to receive four doses at months 0, 1, 4·5, and 16·5 of either 47 μg Pfs25, 40 μg Pfs230D1 or comparator (Twinrix or Menactra)—all co-administered with normal saline for blinding—or 47 μg Pfs25 plus 40 μg Pfs230D1 co-administered. We documented safety and tolerability (primary endpoint in the as-treated populations) and immunogenicity (secondary endpoint in the as-treated populations: ELISA, standard-membrane-feeding assay, and mosquito direct skin feed assay). This trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT02334462. Between March 19, and June 2, 2015, we screened 471 individuals. Of 225 enrolled for the pilot and main cohorts, we randomly assigned 25 participants to pilot safety cohort groups of five (20%) to receive a two-dose series of Pfs25-EPA/Alhydrogel (16 μg), Pfs230D1-EPA/Alhydrogel (15 μg) or comparator, followed by Pfs25-EPA/Alhydrogel (16 μg) plus Pfs230D1-EPA/Alhydrogel (15 μg) or comparator plus saline. For the main cohort, we enrolled 200 participants between May 11 and June 2, 2015, to receive a four-dose series of 47 μg Pfs25-EPA/Alhydrogel plus saline (n=50 [25%]; Pfs25), 40 μg Pfs230D1-EPA/Alhydrogel plus saline (n=49 [25%]; Pfs230D1), 47 μg Pfs25-EPA/Alhydrogel plus 40 μg Pfs230D1-EPA/Alhydrogel (n=50 [25%]; Pfs25 plus Pfs230D1), or comparator (Twinrix or Menactra) plus saline (n=51 [25%]). Vaccinations were well tolerated in the pilot safety and main phases. Most vaccinees became seropositive after two Pfs230D1 or three Pfs25 doses; peak titres increased with each dose thereafter (Pfs230D1 geometric mean: 77·8 [95% CI 56·9–106·3], 146·4 [108·3–198·0], and 410·2 [301·6–558·0]; Pfs25 geometric mean 177·7 [130·3–242·4] and 315·7 [209·9–474·6]). Functional activity (mean peak transmission-reducing activity) appeared for Pfs230D1 (74·5% [66·6–82·5]) and Pfs25 plus Pfs230D1 (68·6% [57·3–79·8]), after the third dose and after the fourth dose (88·9% [81·7–96·2] for Pfs230D1 and 85·0% [78·4–91·5] Pfs25 plus Pfs230D1) but not for Pfs25 (58·2% [49·1–67·3] after the third dose and 58·2% [48·5–67·9] after the fourth dose). Pfs230D1 transmission-reducing activity (73·7% [64·1–83·3]) persisted 10 weeks after the fourth dose. Transmission-reducing activity of 80% was estimated at 1659 ELISA units for Pfs25, 218 for Pfs230D1, and 223 for Pfs230D1 plus Pfs25. After 3850 direct skin feed assays, 35 participants (12 Pfs25, eight Pfs230D1, five Pfs25 plus Pfs230D1, and ten comparator) had transmitted parasites at least once. The proportion of positive assays in vaccine groups (Pfs25 33 [3%] of 982 [–0·013 to 0·014], Pfs230D1 22 [2%] of 954 [–0·005 to 0·027], and combination 11 [1%] of 940 [–0·024 to 0·002]) did not differ from that of the comparator (22 [2%] of 974), nor did Pfs230D1 and combination groups differ (–0·024 to 0·001). In this research, an all-optical 1-bit comparator (AOCMP) is designed using two-dimensional photonic crystals (2D-PhCs) nonlinear ring resonators (NRRs), and its performance is analyzed based on the threshold switching method. By optimizing the structural parameters of NRRs, such as the refractive index and radius of the rods, this resonator can operate with desired wavelength (1550 nm) within the operating frequency range determined by the transverse magnetic (TM) band diagram. The performance of the proposed AOCMP is analyzed in terms of various factors such as optical switching power, bit rate, time delay, and ON-OFF contrast ratio that are calculated using a finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation. Also, the operating frequency range (the wavelength range of 1355–2178 (nm)) is investigated using the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. Summary: To reduce the impact of the single‐event transient (SET) effect on the high‐precision comparator, based on the common high‐gain pre‐amplification stage structure of the comparator, a new radiation hardened by design (RHBD) method, namely, the sensitive node transient detection feedback latch (SNTDFL) technique, is proposed. The hardening technique avoids comparator erroneous output by detecting the sensitive nodes of the high‐gain pre‐amplification stage. The detection circuit receives the response generated by the high energy particle impacts and feeds the high level back to the sensitive nodes to latch the current comparator state. In this paper, a novel high‐precision SET hardened voltage comparator based on this technique is developed. Through detailed circuit principle and simulation analysis, the functional characteristics and the hardening performance of the high‐precision hardened comparator are verified. Compared with the unhardened and the TMR technique hardened comparator, the SNTDFL technique hardened comparator effectively avoids the erroneous output caused by the SET effect with less overhead and still has excellent functional characteristics. It is capable of measuring the difference in lattice spacing between specimens of high-quality float-zone silicon to Δd/d ≈ 6 × 10−9. It has recently undergone a thorough update of its control systems and mechanics. Many researchers over the years studied how logic gates work on the basis of electrical signals. Here, we proposed to create a brand-new, COMPARATOR-focused idea for optical logic design. Being able to keep their shape as well as potential intact even after propagating through a long distance, optical soliton is a well-established phenomenon in digital communication system. Though we have a previous concept of electrical logic gates, at this stage we can design a new technique of logic gates where the light signal can be used instead of electrical signal. An optical signal having a very high data communication speed, there is not an unwanted gate delay time. Here we use hyper secant optical soliton pulse (HOSP)-based logic GATES from numerical aspects. This paper proposes a new method to perform all-optical COMPARATOR using HOSP. Background: In the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, multiple vaccines were developed. Little was known about reactogenicity and safety in comparison to established vaccines, e.g. influenza, pneumococcus, or herpes zoster. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare self-reported side effects in persons vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 with the incidence of side effects in persons receiving one of the established vaccines. Methods: A longitudinal observational study was conducted over a total of 124 days using web-based surveys. Persons receiving either a vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 or one of the established vaccines (comparator group) were included. In the first questionnaire (short-term survey), 2 weeks after vaccination, mainly local and systemic complaints were evaluated. The long-term survey (42 days after vaccination) and follow-up survey (124 weeks after vaccination) focused on medical consultations for any reason. Multivariate analyses were conducted to determine the influence of the vaccine type (SARS-CoV-2 vs. comparator) and demographic factors. Results: In total, data from 16,636 participants were included. Self-reported reactogenicity was lowest in the comparator group (53.2%) and highest in the ChAdOx1 group (85.3%). Local reactions were reported most frequently after mRNA-1273 (73.9%) and systemic reactions mainly after vector-based vaccines (79.8%). Almost all SARS-CoV-2 vaccines showed increased odds of reporting local or systemic reactions. Approximately equal proportions of participants reported medical consultations. None in the comparator group suspected a link to vaccination, while this was true for just over one in 10 in the mRNA-1273 group. The multivariate analysis showed that people with SARS-CoV-2 vaccination were not more likely to report medical consultations; patients who had received a regimen with at least one ChAdOx1 were even less likely to report medical consultations. Younger age, female gender and higher comorbidity were mostly associated with higher odds of medical consultations. Conclusion: The rate of adverse reactions after established vaccinations was roughly comparable to previous studies. Two weeks after vaccination, participants in the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination group reported more local and systemic local reactions than participants in the comparator group. In the further course, however, there were no higher odds of medical consultations in either of the two groups. Thus, altogether, we assume comparable safety. Acute pharyngitis can cause sore throat. This multicentre, active-controlled, randomised, open-label, and parallel-group study, conducted according to the German Medical Devices Act, compared the effectiveness and tolerability of ERS09 mouth and throat spray with a well-established device for the treatment of sore throat caused by acute pharyngitis and dry cough. Patients were randomised 1:1 into ERS09/comparator groups (EMSER® Sore Throat Spray) for 7 ± 2 days. Patients and investigators reported effectiveness (change in total symptom score [TSS]) and safety endpoints (incidence of adverse events [AEs]; adverse device effects [ADEs]). A total of 186 patients were included (ERS09: n = 92; comparator: n = 94). The baseline-adjusted mean TSS over 7 days was −90.14 and −74.91 in the ERS09 and comparator groups, respectively (p < 0.05). The majority of patients reached a 50% reduction in symptoms by day 6 (ERS09 = 78.85; comparator = 75.8%). Most patients reported a soothing effect within five minutes (ERS09 = 82%; comparator = 71%). Improvements in individual symptoms were similar with no significant differences between groups; more patients in the ERS09 group reported an improvement in pharyngeal redness/swelling. Three AEs unrelated to medication, one ADE following ERS09, and no serious AE/ADE were reported.
