Owing to their ability for fast switching and the large property contrast between the crystalline and amorphous states that permits multi-level data storage, in-memory computing and neuromorphic computing, the investigation of phase change materials (PCMs) remains a highly active field of research. Yet, the continuous increase in electrical resistance (called drift) observed in the amorphous phase has so far hindered the commercial implementation of multi-level data storage. It was recently shown that the resistance drift is caused by aging-induced structural relaxation of the glassy phase, which is accompanied by a simultaneous decrease in enthalpy and fictive temperature. This implies that resistance is related to enthalpy relaxation. While the resistance is known to drift even at room temperature and below, evidence for enthalpy relaxation at room temperature in amorphous PCMs is still missing. Here, we monitor changes in enthalpy induced by long-term room-temperature aging in a series of PCMs. Our results demonstrate the simultaneity of resistance drift and enthalpy relaxation at room temperature, and thus provide further insights into the mechanism of resistance drift and its possible remediation. Assigning patients to rooms is a fundamental task in hospitals and, especially, within wards. For this so-called patient-to-room assignment problem (PRA) many heuristics have been proposed with a large variety of different practical constraints. However, a thorough investigation of the problem's structure itself has been neglected so far. In this paper, we present insights about the basic, underlying combinatorial problem of PRA with a focus on minimizing the number of patient transfers which occur if patients have to change rooms during their stay. Particularly, we prove that in the case of double bedrooms, although minimizing the total number of transfers is NP -complete, each patient has to be transferred at most once, and provide upper bounds on the minimum total number of transfers. We herein review the use of electrocochleography (ECoG) to assess peripheral auditory system responsiveness in a growing population of cochlear implant (CI) users with preserved hearing in ears with implants. Twenty-eight recently published intracochlear ECoG articles were thoroughly reviewed to investigate the prognostic utility of intraoperative ECoG monitoring to assess hearing preservation, and the clinical applicability of postoperative ECoG for estimating audiometric thresholds and monitoring longitudinal changes in residual acoustic hearing in patients with EAS. Intraoperative ECoG studies have focused on monitoring the changes in the cochlear microphonics (CM) amplitudes during and after electrode insertion. Mixed results have been reported regarding the relationship between changes in CM amplitude in the operating room and changes in hearing thresholds after surgery. Postoperative ECoG studies have shown that CM and auditory nerve neurophonics thresholds correlate significantly with behavioral thresholds. ECoG thresholds sensitively detect changes as residual acoustic hearing decreases over time in some CI users. This indicates its potential clinical value for monitoring the post-implantation status of the peripheral auditory system. Sound zones are used to reproduce individual audio content to multiple people in a room using a set of loudspeakers with controllable input signals. To allow the reproduction of individual audio to dynamically change, e.g., due to moving listeners, changes in the number of listeners, or changing room transfer functions, an adaptive formulation is proposed. This formulation is based on frequency domain block adaptive filters and given room transfer functions. To reduce computational complexity, the system is extended to subband processing without cross-adaptive filters. The computational savings come from recognizing that sound zones consist of part-solutions which are inherently band limited, hence, several subbands can be ignored. To validate the theoretical findings, a 27-channel loudspeaker array was constructed, and measurements were performed in anechoic and reflective environments. This paper proposed to use the impinging jets mixing process to improve the quality of residential heating and air conditioning. The main objective is to meet the requirements of occupants in terms of thermal comfort and air quality by proposing an optimal solution for the thermal homogenization improvement in the rooms by changing of the diffusers geometry and their arrangement in the ventilation and air-conditioning devices in blowing systems. This study involves both experimental and numerical studies of a three diffusers configurations composed of four peripheral jet with similar geometries and a central jet with a different geometry. All the configurations consist of four equidistant peripheral swirling jets, only the central jet that makes the difference between them. The configuration 1 includes a swirling central jet, on the other hand a circular central jet for the configuration 2 and finally a lobed central jet for configuration 3. The velocity and temperature distributions of the three configurations are investigated experimentally and numerically. Experimentally, the multifunction thermo-anemometer have been used to measure flow temperature and velocity. The dynamic and temperature features are more radially spread and get better homogeneity in configuration 3 and this is due to the energy distribution on the radial plane, which is relatively better than configuration 1 and configuration 2. The second part deals with numerical predictions of the dynamics and thermal fields of the three configurations considered. The study was realized using a RANS-based turbulence model. The numerical results are in reasonable agreement with our experiments for the three configurations. With this study, detailed information on the structure of the resulting flow is very useful to deepen the understanding of the physics of jet interaction and to validate turbulence models. The turbulence simulation is realized by the k-ω-SST model. This model gives a satisfactorily predicts the axial drop in velocity and temperature over the entire study range, demonstrating its ability to handle the interaction between swirling and lobe jets. Our results show that the geometry of the central diffuser is essential. This allows the axial velocity to decrease faster than configurations 1 and 2. Community parks and recreation departments continue to expand the size of indoor recreation centers with more dedicated spaces and an increased scope of services that includes a significant investment into the fitness division of the operation. Many modern community recreation centers require memberships, with the revenue from memberships creating self-sufficiency, and allowing the facility to operate with limited reliance on a declining tax-based support system. Keeping existing members is less work than recruiting new members, and the industry must continue to investigate how specific operation variables influence continuation. This study examined community recreation members' (three locations; n = 353) perceptions of price, staff, equipment, programs, locker rooms, and facility parking effects on the intention to continue membership. The data were collected online, and the direct effects are examined using SPSS, AMOS, and MS Excel Advanced Statistical Analysis. The results of this research determined that membership price was the primary positive contributor to willingness to continue membership in the overall model and for each of the three locations, staff and equipment were significant in the overall model, yet the importance of these service quality dimensions differed by location. Finding differences at each location demonstrates why each operation needs to conduct regular assessments to track and gain insight into what matters to their unique customer group. Transgender individuals face stigma, discrimination, and other barriers impacting their ability to engage in physical activity (PA). We aim to review current literature on PA among transgender individuals. A systemic literature search of research studies from 2010–2023 was conducted. Studies must have reported a measure of PA and gender, be original research, and focus on transgender participants' PA. Rates of PA for transgender individuals were lower compared to cisgender or sexual minority individuals. Transgender women were less likely to engage in PA than other groups. Qualitative results suggest transgender oppression, stigma, discrimination, body image, unwelcoming environments (gyms, locker rooms, swimming pools), and the dichotomous structure of sport contribute to lower rates of PA among transgendered individuals. Disparities in PA for transgender individuals exist. Policy, environment, and system changes are needed to reduce transgender stigma in sport and PA settings. Current legislation is being developed and implemented in the United States regarding the place of transgender individuals in sport and PA. These results should inform public discourse on the topic. Signage for gender-segregated and all-gender facilities (e.g. restrooms, locker rooms) represents gender through imagery and language. Adults regularly encounter the visual cues of facilities signage, yet little research examines how they may affect adults' conceptualization of gender and attitudes toward transgender and nonbinary (TNB) people and related policies. In this preregistered online experiment with a national sample of adults (United States), we test the differential impact of exposure to all-gender and gender-segregated facilities signage in an office workplace scenario on the attitudes of 385 participants. Exposure to all-gender facilities signage in the office environment positively predicted attitudes toward TNB people, and these attitudes were associated with attitudes toward gender-affirming policies. Unexpectedly, prior exposure to all-gender facilities in everyday life (EDL) was associated with more negative attitudes toward TNB people. Signage exposure in the experiment had no significant direct effects on binary conceptualization of gender and policy attitudes, but interaction effects between experimental condition and prior facilities exposure were found for these outcomes. Results from the experiment show a positive immediate impact of all-gender facilities cues on adults' attitudes toward people whose identities may challenge traditional gender-related norms, but they also reveal potential limitations of all-gender facilities in shifting adults' attitudes. Background: As developing countries take steps towards providing universal essential surgery, ensuring the equitable distribution of such care for underrepresented populations is a vital function of the global surgery community. Unfortunately, in the context of the global "stateless", there remains much room for improvement. Key issues: Inherent structural deficiencies, such as lack of adequate population data on stateless communities, absent health coverage policies for stateless individuals, and minimal patient-reported qualitative data on barriers to surgical service delivery prevent stateless individuals from receiving the care they require – even when healthcare infrastructure to provide such care exists. The authors therefore propose more research and targeted interventions to address the systemic issues that prevent stateless individuals from accessing surgical care. Conclusion: It is essential to address the aforementioned barriers in order to improve stateless populations' access to surgical care. Using a case study of a kerb – the social stone – found at a tram traffic Island, the text demonstrates the re/production of the ableist city and analyses processes of transforming such a city into an accessible space for people with disabilities. The authors apply actor-network theory to analyse the mutual construction of space and bodies. To understand this construction, the concept of topology is used, which the article develops by introducing 'ableist' and 'accessible' topology. Unlike topography, which is in concord with able-bodied people, topology is more suitable for the analysis of space when also including non-standard bodies. Moreover, it allows the authors to analyse the mechanisms that reproduce and control the currently inaccessible city on the one hand, and it provide some room for change on the other. However, to make this change happen, a specific network must be established. Ni–Mn-based Heusler alloys are known to demonstrate magnetic shape memory and giant magnetocaloric effect (MCE). These effects depend on the phases, crystallographic and magnetic phase transitions, and the crystallographic texture characteristics. These structural characteristics, in turn, are a function of the processing parameters. In the current work, Ni55.5Mn18.8Ga24Si1.7 Heusler alloy was processed by melt-spinning under a helium atmosphere. This process results in a fine microstructure. The ribbon that was produced with a narrower nozzle width, faster wheel speed, and higher cast temperature, indicating a faster cooling rate, had double the magnetic entropy change close to room temperature. However, the other ribbon demonstrated a large entropy change over a broader temperature range, extending its usability. The effect of the melt-spinning process parameters on the developing microstructure, crystallographic structure and texture, transformation temperatures, and the magnetic entropy change were studied to explain the difference in magnetocaloric behavior. In this discussion, students made connections between their constructed physics knowledge and climate science data to arrive at a reasonable explanation for the formation of thermokarst. Purpose: Fitness centers have become quotidian fundamentals. Consequently, center managers face escalating competitiveness to sustain their businesses. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 emphasizes quality of life and the gravitation toward healthy lifestyles. The service quality of fitness centers is an essential factor influencing customer satisfaction. Owing to the dearth of research on this topic, especially on female-only fitness centers, this study aims to investigate the factors affecting the service quality of female fitness centers in Saudi Arabia regarding satisfaction. Additionally, this study examines the moderating roles of age and income on the relationship between service quality and satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach: The Service Quality Assessment Scale (SQAS) was adopted with five of the original dimensions (staff, workout facilities, physical facilities, exercise program and locker room) and two newly added dimensions (parking and social environment). This study also investigates the moderating roles of age and income on the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction. Findings: All SQAS dimensions positively affected the quality of fitness centers. Furthermore, the service quality of fitness centers increased women's satisfaction, and age and income moderated the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction. Objective: Gynecological examinations (GEs) are challenging for many women. Several recommendations and guidelines have emerged, partly based on common sense and clinicians' consensus. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding women's opinions. Therefore, this study aimed to describe women's preferences and experiences in relation to GEs and investigate whether they are dependent on their socioeconomic status. Methods: In Denmark, GEs are typically performed by general practitioners or resident specialists in gynecology (RSGs) in gynecological hospital departments. This cross‐sectional questionnaire and register study included approximately 3000 randomly selected patients who visited six RSGs from January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021. The main outcome measurement involved women's preferences and experiences regarding GEs. Results: Overall, 37% of the women thought that a changing room was important, 20% preferred a garment to cover themselves, 18% preferred a separate examination room, and 13% thought that the presence of a chaperone was important. Compared with working and retired women, more women outside the workforce felt insufficiently informed, considered their experience with RSGs unprofessional, and found GEs painful. Conclusion: Our results support existing recommendations regarding GEs and the related environment, confirming that privacy and modesty are factors to take into consideration as they are of concern for a relatively large group of women. Thus, providers should focus on women outside the workforce, because this group appears to feel vulnerable in this environment. Building on findings demonstrating that transgender and gender non-binary (trans) people's participation in physical activity is impacted by their experiences in locker rooms, this study examines how trans people navigate transphobia and cissexism in locker rooms. I consider the concepts of membership and belonging to illuminate how locker room access impacts trans people's participation in the public sphere. Drawing on interviews with trans people, this study suggests that—because of iterative encounters of surveillance, scrutiny, harassment, and violence—trans people regularly adopt strategies for navigating locker rooms as nonmembers. To access locker rooms despite a denial of membership, trans people employ various strategies to minimize the visibility of their transness and/or gender non-conformity through managing the perceived threat their gender expression poses to a "cisgendered reality." Strategies such as hurrying, avoiding nudity and eye contact, and recruiting ally support function to facilitate locker room access by minimizing attention to trans nonmembership. The findings of this study suggest that whiteness broadens the availability of strategies for navigating locker rooms. Mycological cleanliness of rooms directly translates into the health of their users. This is important for athletes who are actively training. The aim of the study was to evaluate the sanitary and epidemiological status of sports changing rooms by determining the species diversity of their mycobiota in the context of prevention of athletes' health. The research was carried out in changing rooms of sports halls used by volleyball players in the city of Olsztyn (NE Poland). Standard mycological isolation and identification methods were used in this study. A total of 87 strains of microfungi were isolated. 52 belonged to the mold fungi, among which 18 species, belonging to 10 were found. The species isolated most frequently were: Aspergillus fumigatus, A. niger, Juxtiphoma eupyrena (previous name: Phoma eupyrena) and Westerdykella minutispora (previous name: Ph. minutispora). 35 yeast strains, belonging to 15 species and 10 genera were isolated. The most common species were: Candida glabrata, C. krusei, C. parapsilosis and Rhodotorula glutinis. 5 species were categorized as class BSL-2 fungi. The conducted research justify the need for preventive examinations of athletes and shows the necessity of constant monitoring of the sanitary condition of the sport changing rooms. Its importance for understanding social dynamics notwithstanding, the concept of agency is one of sociology's more controversial ideas. The debate around this concept has mostly been developed at a theoretical level and the empirical studies tend to rely on socio-psychological interpretations of agency as a stable, inner force capable of influencing prospects, decisions, and behavior with little room for change in agency capacity. Social sciences, though, should take a more dynamic stance on agency and highlight the role of the different elements of the social context that can enable or hinder individual agency capacity. Prompted by recent developments of the Capability Approach, this article proposes a framework for the study of agency that defines individual agency as the result of a conversion process of personal resources shaped by conversion factors. Conversion factors operate at micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis, each of which can be oriented toward past experiences, present conditions, and future prospects. This article also seeks to analytically distinguish three types of agency outcome: adaptation, autonomy, and influence. Such a framework will facilitate the transformation of the slippery notion of agency into more tractable empirical phenomena which increase its analytical and critical capacity. The current study empirically investigates patient agency as a multi‐layered and dynamic construct. We explored how agency appears before, during and after 20 sessions of psychodynamic therapy. Building on the Listening Guide, we examined interviews with a woman who had depressive complaints, paying attention to the main plot lines, associative logic and musicality in speech. As a result, we constructed four voices (i.e., 'the caregiver's voice', 'the silent dictator', 'the inexplicable', and 'encouragement and doubt, fright and relief') that shifted dynamically throughout the interviews. Each voice follows an idiosyncratic logic when it comes to agency. We interpreted the results building on psychoanalytic theory and the postmodern story notion and nuanced the concept of agency as implying both a subjective component that creates room for change and an egoic component that has a certain inertia and sustains the illusion of mastery. The efficient use of our existing energy resources is as important as finding new energy sources, since the demand for energy is increasing day by day. Heating and cooling loads in buildings constitute a large part of energy consumption. Therefore, it is very important to improve the energy performance of buildings. The utilization of phase change materials to increase the energy efficiency of buildings is one of the recent research topics. In this study, the effect of phase change materials on room temperature for winter and summer months was investigated numerically by defining real environmental conditions in the virtual environment. Phase change material with thermophysical properties suitable for Mediterranean climate conditions was selected for summer and winter. It can keep the room temperature at a slightly lower level during the daytime in summer and the room temperature higher in winter than in the insulated state case. As a result, phase change materials can be used as a natural air conditioner in the summer, as well as a natural heater at night in the winter. Sitting work posture is often used in office work. Work position failures when sitting can cause Musculoskeletal Disorders. Therefore, ergonomists are necessary for the workplace to assist workers' posture. However, these needs cannot be met due to the limited number of ergonomists and costs. So a practical and inexpensive semi-automatic application is needed. One method for assessing upper body work posture is RULA. This study aims to develop a posture assessment application for sitting work and suggest improvement. In addition, the effect of changes in room brightness, the variability of chair height, and types of office-work tasks were explored in this study to determine the accuracy level of the depth camera to measure the worker's posture. Research design uses empirical research with independent variables: room illuminance, chair height, and four types of office-work tasks. The two levels of room illuminance are 32 lux and 60 lux; the seat height consists of three levels, i.e., 40, 45, and 50cm, while four types of tasks include writing, typing, writing with a cheat sheet, and typing with a cheat sheet beside the Subject. The experiment tests the difference between the application's RULA estimation results and the ergonomist's RULA value. The experiment results showed that the proposed application successfully assessed RULA with the same results as the calculations by the ergonomist. This study makes posture assessment easier for sitting work and provides suggestions for posture improvement. Locker rooms operate as pivotal access points to physical activity across sports, physical education, and fitness facilities. However, locker rooms are predicated on cis-heterosexual assumptions that can be isolating to LGBTQ+ individuals. Using an online cross-sectional survey, LGBTQ+ adults (N = 1,067) were asked open-response questions about their past and present locker-room experiences. The resulting texts were independently coded by two researchers using thematic analysis and compared. All discrepancies were discussed with and rectified by a third researcher who acted as a critical peer. The results present distinct experiences across three intersecting aspects of embodiment: self-conscious-"I hate(d) being seen," sexual transgression, and gender transgression. The findings provide insight into how harmful LGBTQ+ stereotypes influence locker-room experiences and support the redesign of locker rooms to challenge the binary organization of these spaces. In this study, modifications of the Held scaling (Held) are proposed and tested against simulations of f-plane, two-layer quasigeostrophic turbulence. The aim is to better constrain the eddy mixing length and rms barotropic velocity in response to varied quadratic and linear bottom drag. The proposed modifications allow eddies to be partially barotropized, to relax the commonly invoked barotropization approximation, and consider a drag-dependent cascade rate per energy input, to account for the lack of an inertial range. Quantitative comparisons with the vortex gas scaling are also carried out. It is shown that the progressively weakened sensitivity in eddy scales to increased drag strength is mainly a result of eddy partial barotropization. For both drag forms except toward the limit of weak linear drag, accounting for partial barotropization alone leads to good predictions of eddy velocity, although not of mixing length. It also partly resolves the degeneracy of balance constraints for linear drag because partial barotropization acts like scale-dependent damping. Adding a cascade correction, which is interpreted as allowing for changes in spectral room for cascade, further improves the mixing length representation. Overall, the proposed theory can augment the existing scalings by extending the eddy scale predictions to O(1) quadratic drag and has skills generally comparable to the vortex gas scaling for linear drag. However, toward the weak linear drag limit where eddies approach complete barotropization, the proposed theory breaks down but the vortex gas performs well. The wave of anti-trans bathroom bills since 2015 has raised awareness of the importance of bathroom politics for trans people. Long before this, feminist scholars have argued that bodies and spaces are simultaneously forced into a gender binary through the regulation of gender-segregated spaces such as bathrooms. In this article, I offer a trans feminist reading of the media events and rhetoric of the Christian right opposing trans access. I analyse the opposition of the Christian right towards trans access to gender-segregated spaces as an imaginative geography of linear gender. As I argue, the Christian right builds an imaginative geography of a threatened, White 'cis America' through rhetorical devices. Vulnerability attached with micro-level spaces across the United States is evoked through the figure of the child, 'women and children' and the predator. Through these rhetorical devices, bodies and spaces are imagined simultaneously. These figures work as powerful 'stopping devices' for anyone bending the straight line of linear gender. These stopping devices can mobilize cis bodies around a defence of a conservative gender order, legitimize a 'protective' control over cis girls and women, make living in the social world even harder for trans people, all the while envisioning an exclusionary 'America'. Background: Falls are a common, costly global public health burden. In hospitals, multifactorial fall prevention programs have proved effective in reducing falls' incidence; however, translating those programs accurately into daily clinical practice remains challenging. This study's aim was to identify ward-level system factors associated with implementation fidelity to a multifactorial fall prevention program (StuPA) targeting hospitalized adult patients in an acute care setting. Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study used administrative data on 11,827 patients admitted between July and December 2019 to 19 acute care wards at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, as well as data on the StuPA implementation evaluation survey conducted in April 2019. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's coefficients and linear regression modelling for variables of interest. Results: The patient sample had an average age of 68 years and a median length of stay of 8.4 (IQR: 2.1) days. The mean care dependency score was 35.4 points (ePA-AC scale: from 10 points (totally dependent) to 40 points (totally independent)); the mean number of transfers per patient -(e.g., change of room, admission, discharge) was 2.6 (range: 2.4– 2.8). Overall, 336 patients (2.8%) experienced at least one fall, resulting in a rate of 5.1 falls per 1'000 patient days. The median inter-ward StuPA implementation fidelity was 80.6% (range: 63.9–91.7%). We found the mean number of inpatient transfers during hospitalisation and the mean ward-level patient care dependency to be statistically significant predictors of StuPA implementation fidelity. Conclusion: Wards with higher care dependency and patient transfer levels showed higher implementation fidelity to the fall prevention program. Therefore, we assume that patients with the highest fall prevention needs received greater exposure to the program. For the StuPA fall prevention program, our results suggest a need for implementation strategies contextually adapted to the specific characteristics of the target wards and patients.
