In recent years, there has been an emerging theory of "student identity politics," which focuses on student activism based on race, gender, and sexual identity. Thus far, scholars have not yet systematically extended the analysis of student identity politics to those student activism relating to territorial identity. The student-led territorial identity movement that began in Hong Kong in 2015, which has transformed the center-autonomy relations between Beijing and Hong Kong, offers a case study that enriches the theory of student identity politics by bringing in the notion of territorial identity and opening the door for future comparative studies of territorial identity movements worldwide.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) was first initiated by the United States, Japan, Australia, and India in 2007 but did not succeed and was quickly deactivated. Ten years later, the QUAD was revived in 2017 and has been reinvented by the four powers into an informal alliance. Adopting the theoretical lens of offensive realism, this study explains the QUAD's transformation according to the changing relative power distribution in the Indo-Pacific region. It empirically argues that the increasingly unbalanced multipolarity in the Indo-Pacific region is the structural factor that led to the revival and reinvention of the QUAD since 2017. In the global trend of democratic backsliding, Hong Kong provides an illustrative case of how democratic institutions could be degenerated by "exporting autocracy". After 1997, Hong Kong's semi-democracy has come under continuous pressure by China's extra-jurisdictional autocratic influence. When about two decades of exporting autocracy has almost made Hong Kong a semi-democratic façade, China imposed the National Security Law in June 2020 placing the last straw that breaks its semi-democracy. The case study of Hong Kong offers comparative observations about China's exporting autocracy across its surrounding jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hongkonger identity has been a popular research topic for social scientists worldwide. Drawing upon contemporary theories of stateless nation, this article goes beyond the existing "local vis‐à‐vis national identity" paradigm and re‐articulates the political past, present, and future of the Hongkongers as a stateless nation. The article examines the 2007 political campaign for the election to the post of Chief Executive of Hong Kong, China. The victory of Donald Tsang in the election is considered as an example of image manufacturing by a political candidate, employing the campaign management techniques associated with Western democracies based on marketing theories. An anomaly is considered in which China's government, which supported Tsang and limits the democratic self-rule of Hong Kong, assisted in the marketing of a candidate to increase the legitimacy of Hong Kong's government. It is noted Tsang portrayed himself as a pragmatic administrator to appeal to the moderate political views of most Hong Kong voters.

The article presents a neopluralist perspective of the 2003 zero-three-three civil service pay reduction settlement in Hong Kong, China. It analyzes the interactions, negotiations and bargaining of various contending groups over the issue of civil service pay adjustment. Qualitative research methods were adopted, which included documentary reviews and interviews with those players who participated in the development process of the zero-three-three settlement. The article also explains why neopluralism should be adopted as a theoretical framework for analyzing policy making.
