Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics of (1 − x)K0.5Na0.5NbO3-xCaTiO3 were fabricated, and their crystal structure, microstructure, and electrical properties were systematically studied. Rietveld refinement of the x-ray diffraction data and Raman spectroscopic analyses revealed a composition-dependent structural phase transition: three phase transitions, namely, from a pure orthorhombic phase for x ≤ 0.02 to a mixed phase of orthorhombic and tetragonal phases (0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.08) and finally another mixed phase of tetragonal + cubic for x = 0.10 and 0.15 at room temperature (RT). The morphological study reveals a decrease in grain size along with a more uniform distribution of grains as the concentration of CaTiO3 (CT) increases; notably, a homogeneous distribution of grains is observed for x = 0.05. The temperature-dependent dielectric properties show two phase transitions, from orthorhombic to tetragonal (TO-T) and tetragonal to cubic (TC), for unmodified K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN). However, both the phase transition temperatures (TO-T and TC) decrease, and the transition peaks broaden with an increase in CT substitution, and for x > 0.06, the TO-T shifted below RT. The broadening of the transition peak at TO-T may be due to the relaxation behavior. Among the prepared samples, the 5 mol. % CT-modified KNN shows the optimum electrical properties (d33 = 114 pC/N, ɛr = 412, and 2Pr = 15.25 μC/cm2) at RT. The enhanced electrical properties for x = 0.05 are due to the coexistence of orthorhombic and tetragonal phases, facilitating easy polarization rotation and flattening of the free energy profile. Doping of suitable metal ions in ferroelectric oxides modifies the physical properties and can induce additional functionalities. Here, we present a detailed study on the effects of Sm concentration on the structural, dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of ((K0.5Na0.5)1−3xSmx)NbO3 (KNSN) (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.02) ceramics. X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopic analysis indicate that KNSN ceramics exhibit the single‐phase orthorhombic (Amm2) structure for x = 0.00 and the coexistence of orthorhombic and tetragonal (Amm2 + P4mm) structure for the composition range 0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.02. The tetragonal phase fraction increases with an increase in Sm concentration. We observed dielectric relaxation behavior in KNSN at orthorhombic to tetragonal (TO–T) phase transition temperature, and its origin can be attributed to the structural heterogeneity at the inter‐ferroelectric phase boundary. Increasing Sm concentration leads to the broadening of the ferroelectric phase transition peaks. Further, the structural heterogeneity of the ceramics was seen from the slope of the dielectric constant versus log frequency and central peak behavior of Raman spectra at room temperature (RT). The study reveals that x = 0.005 shows maximum dielectric constant (Ɛr = 583), remanent polarization (2Pr = 57.02 μC/cm2), and piezoelectric coefficient (d33 = 94 pC/N) at RT and is associated with increased local structural heterogeneity due to Sm doping. Multiferroic composites consisting of a single-phase multiferroic [0.6(PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3)-0.4(PbFe0.5Ta0.5)O3] as a matrix and a magnetostrictive phase (Co0.6Zn0.4Fe1.7Mn0.3O4) dispersed in the matrix are fabricated via hybrid synthesis technique. The structure and surface morphology studies using x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy techniques indicate the formation of 3-0 type particulate composites. Coexistence of soft-magnetic behavior and ferroelectric characteristics are confirmed for composites from magnetization vs magnetic field (M–H) and polarization vs electric field (P–E) measurements, respectively. Magneto-dielectric (MD) measurement shows significant changes in the dielectric properties with the application of a magnetic field, indicating the existence of strong MD behavior. The biquadratic nature of magneto-electric (ME) coupling is described by the Landau free energy equation arising from the strain transfer at the interfaces between the constituent phases. The direct magneto-electric voltage coefficient measurement also confirms very strong coupling between ferroelectricity and magnetism and supports the strain-mediated magneto-electric effect in composites. The Φ = 0.3 composite exhibits the maximum ME coefficient of 20.72 mV/cm Oe with MS = 24.62 emu/g, HC = 59.66 Oe, and piezoelectric coefficient value d33 = 19 pC/N. A general formulation is employed to study and quantitatively ascertain the effect of plasma broadening of intrinsic autoionizing (AI) resonances in photoionization cross sections. In particular, R-matrix data for iron ions described in the previous paper in the RMOP series (RMOP-II, hereafter RMOP2) are used to demonstrate underlying physical mechanisms due to electron collisions, ion microfields (Stark), thermal Doppler effects, core excitations, and free–free transitions. Breit–Pauli R-matrix cross sections for a large number of bound levels of Fe ions are considered, 454 levels of Fe XVII, 1184 levels of Fe XVIII and 508 levels of Fe XIX. Following a description of theoretical and computational methods, a sample of results is presented to show significant broadening and shifting of AI resonances due to extrinsic plasma broadening as a function of temperature and density. The redistribution of AI resonance strengths broadly preserves their integrated strengths as well as the naturally intrinsic asymmetric shapes of resonance complexes which are broadened, smeared and flattened, eventually dissolving into the bound-free continua. An extended version of the R -matrix methodology is presented for calculation of radiative parameters for improved plasma opacities. Contrast and comparisons with existing methods primarily relying on the distorted wave approximation are discussed to verify accuracy and resolve outstanding issues, particularly with reference to the opacity project (OP). Among the improvements incorporated are: (i) large-scale Breit–Pauli R -matrix calculations for complex atomic systems including fine structure, (ii) convergent close coupling wave function expansions for the (e + ion) system to compute oscillator strengths and photoionization cross sections, (iii) open and closed shell iron ions of interest in astrophysics and experiments, (iv) a treatment for plasma broadening of autoionizing resonances as function of energy-temperature-density dependent cross sections, (v) a 'top-up' procedure to compare convergence with R -matrix calculations for highly excited levels, and (vi) spectroscopic identification of resonances and bound (e + ion) levels. The present R -matrix monochromatic opacity spectra are fundamentally different from OP and lead to enhanced Rosseland and Planck mean opacities. An outline of the work reported in other papers in this series and those in progress is presented. This paper adopts the multi-criterion decision-making model of fuzzy-TODIM and genetic algorithm (GA) for optimal portfolio allocation. We applied Markowitz's portfolio parameters as inputs for the fuzzy TODIM model to rank stocks that are constituents of each index from three different markets. Portfolios are then generated dynamically using three weighting techniques and subject to multi-objective criteria and additional constraints. The results indicate a significant variation in performance metrics between the model-generated portfolios and the market indices. Replication of the procedure produces a similar outcome. Moreover, the out-of-sample tests conducted over 3 years validate the results' robustness, indicating that fuzzy TODIM, combined with GA, can achieve superior performance in dynamic portfolio allocation. Ferroelectric materials exhibiting switchable and spontaneous polarization have strong potential to be utilized in various novel electronic devices. Solid solutions of different perovskite structures induce the coexistence of various phases and enhance the physical functionalities around the phase coexistence region. The construction of phase diagrams is important as they describe the material properties, which are linked to the underpinning physics determining the system. Here we present the phase diagram of (K0.5Na0.5NbO3)–(Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3) (KNN-BST) system as a function of composition and their associated physical properties. Lead-free (1 − x)KNN–xBST (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) solid solution ceramics were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction technique. The X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopic studies indicate composition-dependent structural phase transitions from an orthorhombic phase for x = 0 to orthorhombic + tetragonal dual-phase (for 0.025 ≤ x ≤ 0.15), then a tetragonal + cubic dual-phase (x = 0.2) and finally a cubic single phase for x ≥ 0.25 at room temperature (RT). Among these, the orthorhombic + tetragonal dual-phase system shows an enhanced value of the dielectric constant at room temperature. The phase transition temperatures, orthorhombic to tetragonal (TO-T) and tetragonal to cubic (TC), decrease with the increase in BST concentrations. Background: Daith piercing is a special ear‐piercing method that punctures the crus of the helix. The penetrated site at the ear's innermost point is assumed to stimulate a pressure point associated with the vagus nerve. It has been reported that the pierced spot relieves migraine and tension‐type headaches by activating vagal afferents, leading to the inhibition of neurons in the caudal trigeminal nucleus via the nucleus tractus solitarii. Objective: The objective of this narrative literature review is to summarize the current state of knowledge concerning daith piercing for the treatment of migraine and tension‐type headaches from the perspectives of the Chinese and Western auricular systems. Methods: PubMed and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched using the keywords "daith piercing," "auricular points," "headache," and "acupuncture" from database inception to September 1, 2023. Only studies on humans were eligible; otherwise, no further restrictions were applied to the study designs, type of headache, or patient population of the identified articles. Bibliographies of all eligible studies were screened for further eligible studies. The main outcome of interest was a quantitative measure of pain relief by daith piercing. Secondary outcomes were relapse time of headache and further outcomes related to daith piercing, if available. Results: From a total of 186 identified articles, one retrospective study and three case reports fulfilled the inclusion criteria. No clinical trial was identified. The obtained studies describe patients experiencing chronic headaches undergoing daith piercing without changing or reducing their usual medication. In all case studies and the retrospective study, patients reported substantial reductions in pain immediately after daith piercing; however, headache symptoms recurred several weeks to months thereafter. From the perspective of the Chinese and Western auricular systems, no sufficient explanation for the described treatment effect of daith piercing was found. Conclusion: The available literature, combined with the reported recurrence of pain as well as the associated side effects of daith piercing, indicate that current evidence does not support daith piercing for the treatment of migraine, tension‐type headaches, or other headache disorders. The dependence of the Rosseland Mean Opacity (RMO) on the equation of state and the number of included atomic levels of iron ions prevalent at the solar radiative/convection boundary is investigated. The 'chemical picture' Mihalas–Hummer–Däppen (MHD) equation-of-state (EOS), and its variant QMHD–EOS, are studied at two representative temperature–density sets at the base of the convection zone and the Sandia Z experiment: (2 × 106 K, 1023/cc) and (2.11 × 106 K, 3.16 × 1022/cc), respectively. It is found that whereas the new atomic data sets from accurate R-matrix calculations for opacities (RMOP) are vastly overcomplete, involving hundreds to over a thousand levels of each of the three Fe ions considered – Fe  xvii , Fe  xviii , Fe  xix – the EOS constrains contributions to RMOs by relatively fewer levels. The RMOP iron opacity spectrum is quite different from the Opacity Project distorted wave model and shows considerably more plasma broadening effects. Bone metastasis is a frequent and incurable consequence of advanced prostate cancer (PC). An interplay between disseminated tumor cells and heterogeneous bone resident cells in the metastatic niche initiates this process. Melanoma differentiation associated gene-9 (mda-9/Syntenin/syndecan binding protein) is a prometastatic gene expressed in multiple organs, including bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs), under both physiological and pathological conditions. We demonstrate that PDGF-AA secreted by tumor cells induces CXCL5 expression in BM-MSCs by suppressing MDA-9-dependent YAP/MST signaling. CXCL5-derived tumor cell proliferation and immune suppression are consequences of the MDA-9/CXCL5 signaling axis, promoting PC disease progression. mda-9 knockout tumor cells express less PDGF-AA and do not develop bone metastases. Our data document a previously undefined role of MDA-9/Syntenin in the tumor and microenvironment in regulating PC bone metastasis. This study explores the effects of filler concentrations of lanthanum-doped lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) on the electrical and mechanical characteristics of nanocomposite thick film. Crystal structure and morphology of the thick film have been studied using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy techniques. It has been noted that adding PLZT nanoparticles to the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix modifies the physical properties of PVDF. In the nanocomposite film, the most prominent polar β phase has been identified at 6 mol% of PLZT filler. In all the films, a nearly homogenous grain distribution has been observed. Frequency-dependent dielectric, conductivity, and impedance of the sample were studied at room temperature. Maximum electric dipole polarization of 0.68 μC/cm2 and piezoelectric (d33) constant of 48 pC/N have been observed at 6 mol% of PLZT filler in the PVDF matrix. Indeed, it has been observed that the (0.94)PVDF–(0.06)PLZT nanocomposite film is well suited for applications such as nanogenerators, structural health monitoring systems, and various kinds of sensors and actuators. To study the acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) management strategies practiced at a tertiary eye care center in eastern India. Methods: In a retrospective chart review study, the clinical outcomes of three different management approaches to treating acute CSC were analyzed. Individuals with follow-ups of fewer than 6 months were excluded. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the prognostic markers of CSC resolution. Results: In the 10-year study period (January 2013-July 2022), 206 eyes were included. Placebo treatment was the preferred practice (48.5%; n = 100 eyes). Watchful observation without placebo was the management strategy in 30.6% (n = 63) of the eyes, and 20.9% (n = 43) of eyes received focal lasers. Risk factor modification was attempted in all. There was no significant difference in the resolution rate (P = 0.819), time to resolution (P = 0.331), and disease recurrence (P = 0.067) among the groups. Univariate logistic regression analysis did not favor any of the treatment strategies predicting resolution and recurrence. Conclusion: Alternative treatment modes did not score over the natural history of acute CSC regarding disease resolution, vision gain, and disease recurrence. Recent advancements in computing technologies coupled with the need to make sense of large amounts of raw data have renewed much interest in data-driven materials design and discovery. Traditional materials science research relies heavily on experimental data to gauge the properties of materials. However, this paradigm is purely based on trial and error and ongoing research can take decades to discover new materials. Data-driven modeling tools such as machine learning and its proven libraries can help speed up the materials' discovery process through the implementation of powerful algorithms on readily available material datasets mined from the ever-increasing private- and government-funded material databases. In this Perspective, we applied various machine learning models on tens of hundreds of thermoelectric compounds obtained from density functional theory calculation results. In our preliminary analysis, we made use of pymatgen and the powerful materials science library matminer to add and explore key material features that have the propensity to accurately predict our achievable target output. We evaluated the accuracy and performance of our models with the coefficient of determination (R2), the root mean square error, and K-fold cross-validation metrics and identified the most important descriptors for our materials. Magnetoelectric (ME) composite thin films are promising candidates for novel applications in future nanoelectronics, spintronics, memory, and other multifunctional devices as they exhibit much higher ME coupling and transition temperatures (Tc) than well-known single phase multiferroics discovered to date. Among the three types of multiferroic composite nanostructures, (2–2) layered and (1–3) vertically aligned composite nanostructures exhibit comparatively smaller ME coupling due to different shortcomings that restrict their use in many applications. Here, we study the morphological, piezoresponse force microscopic (PFM), ferroelectric, magnetic, and magnetodielectric properties of 0–3 [magnetic nanoparticles (0) homogeneously distributed in ferroelectric matrices (3)] multiferroic composite thin films. The Pb(Fe0.5Nb0.5)O3 (PFN)–Ni0.65Zn0.35Fe2O4 (NZFO) particulate composite films were synthesized by pulsed laser deposition. These particulate composite thin films are completely c-axis oriented with very low surface roughness. We observed magnetic and ferroelectric Tc above room temperature (RT) for all composite thin films. The PFN–NZFO 0–3 composites exhibit large polarization, high saturated magnetization with low coercive field, and low dielectric loss along with magnetodielectric coupling at RT. Pile foundations are provided for structures, where soil at the top layers possesses low bearing capacity. A comprehensive understanding of pile foundation located in liquefiable soils is a key requirement to enable designer to arrive at an economic design and for safe performance of structure during its intended service life. The failure of various structures on pile foundation system in liquefied soil subjected to earthquake load shows limitation of present methodologies available for design. Hence, study of pile foundations in liquefiable soil under earthquake loading attracted attention of researchers over many years. In addition, many governing factors, as compiled by researchers during analysis and design of pile foundation in liquefiable soils, need to be critically analysed. Therefore, in present paper comparative aspects of various issues addressed by different researchers are presented. It briefs about various International Codes followed in design and analysis. This review article also provides analytical study/numerical model developments, and experimental works performed by various researchers with an effort to bring out the progress in analysis and design. The current paper also discussed various behavioural issues, design aspects, recommendations by researchers dealing with proablems of pile foundation considering liquefaction condition of soil and some exemplary cases. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are essential for post-transcriptional gene regulation in eukaryotes, including splicing control, mRNA transport and decay. Thus, accurate identification of RBPs is important to understand gene expression and regulation of cell state. In order to detect RBPs, a number of computational models have been developed. These methods made use of datasets from several eukaryotic species, specifically from mice and humans. Although some models have been tested on Arabidopsis , these techniques fall short of correctly identifying RBPs for other plant species. Therefore, the development of a powerful computational model for identifying plant-specific RBPs is needed. In this study, we presented a novel computational model for locating RBPs in plants. Five deep learning models and ten shallow learning algorithms were utilized for prediction with 20 sequence-derived and 20 evolutionary feature sets. The highest repeated five-fold cross-validation accuracy, 91.24% AU-ROC and 91.91% AU-PRC, was achieved by light gradient boosting machine. While evaluated using an independent dataset, the developed approach achieved 94.00% AU-ROC and 94.50% AU-PRC. The proposed model achieved significantly higher accuracy for predicting plant-specific RBPs as compared to the currently available state-of-art RBP prediction models. Despite the fact that certain models have already been trained and assessed on the model organism Arabidopsis , this is the first comprehensive computer model for the discovery of plant-specific RBPs. In the last few years, many experiments have been done on lightweight Al and SiCp MMCs for aerospace and automotive applications. The results have been consistent in the development of structural and super alloys. Present work explores the performance characteristics of powder mix EDM by machining Al, LM-25 alloy with various weight fractions of reinforcement (0%, 5%, and 10% SiC) and variable electrode material. The impact of heat treatment on the microstructure of Al LM-25/10%SiC MMC has also been examined. Experimental investigation has been conducted to examine the machine response by adjusting the process parameters by employing the statistical design of RSM. The machining characteristics have been estimated to assess the machine response, namely metal removal rate (MRR) and tool wear rate (TWR), which are closely related to process variables, discharge current (I p), pulse on time (Ton), servo voltage (V), different tool materials, varying work materials, and differing concentrations of abrasive particles. The ANOVA results show that tool material is the most crucial parameter for MRR, accounting for 11.90% of the total, followed by other process variables, and the pulse on time for TWR, accounting for 5.94% of the total. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was used to examine the macrostructure of machined MMCs. A chemical microanalysis technique such as Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to determine the phase composition of the materials and material dispersion. The effects of disorder on the magnetic phases as well as on the conduction process are extensively studied in LaFeO3 nanoparticles in a wide field and temperature ranges. The disorder induced by Na in LaFeO3 alters its robust magnetic phase to the coexistence of distinctly different magnetic orders. The phase purity of the samples, which plays an important role, is detected by synchrotron x-ray diffraction. Detailed magnetic measurements are carried out to investigate the evolution of phases due to substitutions. The samples show the coexistence of a superparamagnetic phase along with a weak ferromagnetic phase, and the ratio of the two distinct phases varies with substitutions. The Mössbauer measurement supported the said magnetic phases in the samples. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis clarifies the simultaneous presence of Fe3+ and Fe4+ due to Na+ incorporation. Furthermore, the electrical conduction is found to be greatly influenced by such substitutional disorder. From the dielectric measurement, a p-type polaronic conduction mechanism is found in 25% Na incorporation, which is mainly due to the hole hopping between Fe4+ and Fe3+ states. The semicircles in the whole temperature range in the Cole–Cole plots of impedance and modulus spectra are the co-contribution of the grain and the grain boundary effect in the conduction process. Vanadium oxide (VO2) thin films have drawn significant research and development interest in recent years because of their intriguing physical origin and wide range of functionalities useful for many potential applications, including infrared imaging, smart windows, and energy and information technologies. However, the growth of highly epitaxial films of VO2, with a sharp and distinct controllable transition, has remained a challenge. Here, we report the structural and electronic properties of high quality and reproducible epitaxial thin films of VO2, grown on c-axis oriented sapphire substrates using pulsed laser deposition at different deposition pressures and temperatures, followed by various annealing schedules. Our results demonstrate that the annealing of epitaxial VO2 films significantly enhances the Semiconductor to Metal Transition (SMT) to that of bulk VO2 transition. The effect of oxygen partial pressure during the growth of VO2 films creates a significant modulation of the SMT from around room temperature to as high as the theoretical value of 68 °C. We obtained a bulk order transition ≥104 while reducing the transition temperature close to 60 °C, which is comparatively less than the theoretical value of 68 °C, demonstrating a clear and drastic improvement in the SMT switching characteristics. The results reported here will open the door to fundamental studies of VO2, along with tuning of the transition temperatures for potential applications for multifunctional devices. In this article, the effects of damage (delamination) on the structural vibration characteristics of spar wingskin joints (SWJs) made with curved laminated composites are investigated. Three dimensional finite element analysis is employed to evaluate the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of the joint structure considered. Virtual elements are implemented in the delamination region to prevent inter element penetration. The effectiveness of the finite element analysis technique used is validated with available results. Additionally, the effects of various parameters such as delamination size, curvature effect (shallowness angle), laminate stacking sequence, overlap length, and material anisotropy (modular ratio) on the free vibration responses of the curved SWJ are analyzed in details. In continuation to our search for a suitable magnetic material having Curie temperature (Tc) well above room temperature for multifunctional applications, we have studied the dielectric, optical, magnetic, and resistance switching characteristics of Ni0.65Zn0.35Fe2O4 (NZFO) thin films. The observation of only (004) reflection in the X-ray diffraction patterns confirms the c-axis orientation and high quality growth of NZFO thin films. The presence of mixed valences of Fe2+/Fe3+ cations is probed by X-ray photon spectroscopy, which supports the cationic ordering-mediated large dielectric response. Our investigations reveal NZFO to be an indirect band gap material (~1.8eV) with a direct gap at ~2.55eV. These nanostructures exhibit high saturation magnetization and a low coercive field with a ferrimagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition of ~713K. Magnetic force microscopy studies revealed the stripe-like domain structure of the investigated thin films. In addition, these thin films exhibit reliable and repeatable unipolar resistive switching characteristics. The observed high dielectric permittivity with low loss tangent, large magnetization with soft magnetic behavior, striped magnetic domain structure and reliable resistance switching in NZFO thin films above room temperature suggest potential application in memory, spintronics, and multifunctional devices. Substrate-induced electron energy band alignments of ultrathin molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) films are investigated using photoemission spectroscopy. Thin layer MoS2/Al2O3 and MoS2/ZrO2 interfaces show valence band offset (VBO) values of 3.21 eV and 2.77 eV, respectively. The corresponding conduction-band offset (CBO) values are 3.63 eV and 1.27 eV. Similarly, the calculated VBO and CBO values for an ultrathin layer of MoS2/SiO2 are estimated to be 4.25 and 2.91 eV, respectively. However, a very thick layer of MoS2 on Al2O3 and ZrO2 layers increases the CBO and VBO values by 0.31 eV and 0.2 eV, respectively, due to the shifting of the Mo 4dz2 band toward the Fermi level. The atomic force microscopy images show that the films are atomically smooth and favor the formation of a high-quality interface between the substrate and the film. The investigated luminescence spectra reveal that the MoS2 films show very strong interactions with different high-k surfaces, whereas the Raman spectrum is only weakly influenced by the different dielectric substrates. This interesting finding encourages the application of high-k oxide insulators as gate materials in MoS2-based complementary metal-oxide semiconductors and other electronic devices. We report the intense room temperature ultraviolet photoluminescence (PL) emission from self-assembled vertically aligned ZnO nanorods grown directly on graphene. The PL intensities from ZnO nanorods grown on other van der Waal bulk solids such as highly oriented pyrolytic graphite and mica under the same experimental condition are also compared. The enhanced PL signal from ZnO nanorods grown on graphene is explained on the basis of lattice matching of ZnO with that of graphene leading to high crystal quality. Furthermore, the role of graphene plasmons on the enhanced PL signal is explored by studying the micro-PL mapping on a single nanorod lying horizontally on the graphene surface. The uniform and high PL intensity distribution is noticed along the central axis of the rod, and the intensity distribution decreases toward either side of the central axis. The occurrence of such intensity distribution is explained by resonant excitation of graphene plasmon near bandgap energy of ZnO, which is modulated by surface corrugation of graphene and followed by its transformation into the propagating photon. Given the promising growth of digital payments in India, this study aims to identify motivational factors influencing digital payment acceptance among Indian consumers and how consumers perceive these services when segregated by demographic profiles of gender, age, education and income levels. An online survey targeting 386 respondents was targeted to study the key determinants of digital payments adoption. The study reveals that trust, subjective norm, perceived risk, ease of use, and usefulness are key predictors of digital payment adoption. In addition, invariance analysis provides empirical evidence of scale non-invariance when consumers are segregated by gender and education. The study is pioneering in digital payments as useful insights are gained, which can help policymakers and service providers design future strategies for wider acceptance of digital payments. (Ba0.955Ca0.045)(Zr0.17Ti0.83)O3 [BCZT] epitaxial were grown on La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO)‐coated (100)‐oriented MgO single crystal substrates by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Herein, we report crystal structure, ferroelectric, piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM), and energy storage properties near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition of [Ba0.850Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.90O3] solid solution. Epitaxial growth of the films was confirmed using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. Room‐temperature Raman spectroscopy confirms perovskite phase of BCZT films. Room‐temperature polarization‐electric field (P‐E) loops confirm the ferroelectric nature of BCZT films. Ferroelectric hysteresis loops demonstrate high saturation polarization (Pmax ~ 97.96 μC/cm2) and remanant polarization (Pr ~ 70.1 μC/cm2) at an applied maximum electric field ~2.77 MV/cm. The optimized BCZT epitaxial thin films have shown moderate dielectric properties at different measured frequencies (10‐100 kHz). Nanoscale piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) images demonstrate switchable ferroelectric polarization of these thin films above ±9 V of dc voltage applied. Energy storage properties measured from ferroelectric loops revealed a high discharge curve energy density ~27.5 J/cm3 at a maximum electric field of 2.77 MV/cm. Thin films of vanadium dioxide (VO2) are deposited on indium tin oxide (ITO), stainless steel (SS), and glass substrates using chemical vapour deposition. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements confirmed the single phase nature of the VO2, which showed a phase transition from a low conducting state at low temperature(<68 °C) to a high conducting state at high temperature (>68 °C). This was confirmed by electrical conductance and infra-red reflectance measurements. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to measure the charge states of vanadium species. The optical constants of VO2 were determined using visible and near-infra red(NIR) reflectivity and show that the VO2 film on ITO has a lowered plasma frequency compared with VO2 on glass substrates. The thin films of VO2 enable a broadband of ultra-high absorption at mid-wave infra-red frequencies due to a Fabry-Pérot (F-P) like resonance due to the dielectric properties of ITO, SS, or glass. The tunability of this absorption band via VO2 thickness and the switchability by temperature makes the system attractive for absorptive coatings with controllable emissivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The search for a room temperature single phase multiferroic material displaying strong magnetoelectric coupling and low leakage current for practical device applications has been underway and a long-standing challenge. In continuation to our investigations for achieving robust ME coupling and enhanced electrical insulation at room temperature, we report magnetic, electrical insulation, and magneto-dielectric properties of Nd and Mn co-doped BiFeO3 (Bi0.95Nd0.05)(Fe0.97Mn0.03)O3 (BNFM) polycrystalline electro-ceramics. Magnetic studies have been carried out in two different temperature regions, i.e., 15–300K and 300–800K. The doping of Nd and Mn in the BiFeO3 (BFO) lattice slightly reduces the Néel temperature (TN) with broad weak ferromagnetic (FM) to paramagnetic (PM) phase transition by increasing ferromagnetic domain fractions. A small amount of magnetic frustration is also found in the low temperature regions, below 300K at fields of 100 and 200Oe, and below 200K at higher field cooled and zero field cooled; this may be due weak long range ordering and small magnitude of magnetic moments. High temperature magnetic results imply the existence of a weak ferromagnetic phase with a FM to PM phase transition around 630K (±5K) and significant suppression of the spin frustration and canting properties of BFO. The Nd and Mn co-doping also substantially improved the electrical insulating properties of BFO. The leakage current analysis suggests that the Simmons’ mechanism is probably a dominant conduction mechanism in BNFM at room temperature. The observation of dielectric anomaly around the TN and significant variation of dielectric parameters with different static magnetic field in BNFM implies the existence of strong magnetodielectric coupling. The enhanced magnetic and electrical insulation properties with strong magnetodielectric coupling at room temperature elucidate the possible potential candidates for multifunctional and spintronics device applications. We report systematic studies on crystal structure and magneto-dielectric properties of (1-x) BiFeO3-x DyMnO3 (0.0⩽x⩽0.2) nanoceramics synthesized by auto-combustion method. Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data indicates a structural transition from R3c to R3c + Pn21a at x=0.1. Field emission scanning electron micrographs display a decrease in grain size with increase in x. The presence of dielectric anomalies around antiferromagnetic transition temperature implies the magnetoelectric coupling. Dielectric measurements showed decrease in magnetic ordering temperature with increasing x in agreement with differential scanning calorimetry results. A significant increase in magnetization has been found with increasing DyMnO3 substitution. This article discusses an advanced method for estimating dc conductivity of oil using parameters evaluated under switching impulse voltage application. Firstly, the effectiveness of switching impulse application for assessing the condition of oil–paper insulation is investigated. Thereafter, the evaluated parameters under switching impulse voltage are fitted by Havriliak and Negami (HN) model for estimating the oil conductivity. The method is applied on oil-impregnated pressboards containing different moistures and a distribution transformer for experimental investigation. Simple Summary: The rat progression elevated gene-3 (PEG-3) promoter displays cancer-selective expression, whereas the rat growth arrest and DNA damage inducible gene-34 (GADD34) promoter lacks cancer specificity. PEG-3 and GADD34 minimal promoters display strong sequence homology except for two single point mutations. Since mutations are prevalent in many gene promoters resulting in significant alterations in promoter specificity and activity, we have explored the relevance of these two nucleotide alterations in determining cancer-selective gene expression. We demonstrate that these two point mutations are required to transform a non-cancer-specific promoter (pGADD) into a cancer-selective promoter (pGAPE). Additionally, we found GATA2 transcription factor binding sites in the GAPE-Prom, which regulates pGAPE activity selectively in cancer cells. This newly created pGAPE has all the necessary elements making it an appropriate genetic tool to noninvasively deliver imaging agents to follow tumor growth and progression to metastasis and for generating conditionally replicating adenoviruses that can express and deliver their payload exclusively in cancer. Progression-elevated gene-3 (PEG-3) and rat growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible gene-34 (GADD34) display significant sequence homology with regulation predominantly transcriptional. The rat full-length (FL) and minimal (min) PEG-3 promoter display cancer-selective expression in rodent and human tumors, allowing for cancer-directed regulation of transgenes, viral replication and in vivo imaging of tumors and metastases in animals, whereas the FL- and min-GADD34-Prom lack cancer specificity. Min-PEG-Prom and min-GADD34-Prom have identical sequences except for two single-point mutation differences (at −260 bp and +159 bp). Engineering double mutations in the min-GADD34-Prom produce the GAPE-Prom. Changing one base pair (+159) or both point mutations in the min-GADD34-Prom, but not the FL-GADD34-Prom, results in cancer-selective transgene expression in diverse cancer cells (including prostate, breast, pancreatic and neuroblastoma) vs. normal counterparts. Additionally, we identified a GATA2 transcription factor binding site, promoting cancer specificity when both min-PEG-Prom mutations are present in the GAPE-Prom. Taken together, introducing specific point mutations in a rat min-GADD34-Prom converts this non-cancer-specific promoter into a cancer-selective promoter, and the addition of GATA2 with existing AP1 and PEA3 transcription factors enhances further cancer-selective activity of the GAPE-Prom. This study aims at investigating an optimal resource plan in order to minimize the software costs in the debugging and testing phases. We have proposed a resource allocation model to address testing efforts, imperfect debugging and change-point. We have considered two cases: In the first case, the software debugging cost is kept constant, and in this case, the optimal policy follows a bang-bang structure, which means investing entirely in the testing phase, followed by investing fully in the debugging stage. In the second case, we have taken the debugging cost in quadratic form. We have validated our model with the experimental data, and the results reveal that the presented model is reasonably accurate. We have also discussed the optimal resource allocation problems under certain conditions and examine the parameters’ behavior in the model and obtain the variations in the total cost. Background: Functionality and requirement of Boron as a trace element in livestock feeding has not been well established. Limited research conducted worldwide suggests B is a trace element known to influence various physiological functions specifically the metabolism of minerals, hormones, immunity and antioxidant defense mechanism; thereby the performance of the birds. The whole grains widely used in poultry diets contain very little boron and currently, there is no definitive information regarding the boron requirement for any class of poultry and inclusion levels are far from standardized. Therefore, the present experiment has been conducted to study the influence of boron on bone mineralization and antioxidant status in broiler. Methods: A total of 240 day-old broiler chicks (Vencob) of mixed sex (avg. BW 47.50±0.26 g) were distributed in a completely randomized design into five treatments each with four replicates of 12 birds (6 of each sex). The dietary treatments involved supplementation of boron at 0 (B-0), 25 (B-25), 50 (B-50), 75 (B-75) and 100 (B-100) mg/kg diet. The birds were offered starter (d 1 to 21) and finisher (d 22 to 42) diet in mash form. At d 42, Whole blood (2 ml) sample was collected for the estimation of total antioxidant status and reduced glutathione by FRAP and DTNB method, respectively. Two birds per replication were selected randomly; sacrificed and right femur bone was collected to measure the bone ash and mineral content. Result: Boron supplementation enhanced the bone ash, calcium and phosphorus content but decreased the manganese and iron content in bone. This paper presents an advanced technique for calculating activation energy of oil-impregnated pressboard through dielectric response current measurement under switching impulse voltage at different temperatures. The proposed technique analyzes the measured impulse voltage and current signals to formulate its equivalent circuit at different temperatures. The equivalent circuit parameters are utilized to determine the shifting of ac conductivity curve along frequency axis with variations in temperatures. Based on the shifted ac conductivity curves at different temperatures, the corresponding activation energy of the insulation is estimated. Recent studies report that few journals are adopting unethical citation practices to inflate Impact Factor (IF) artificially. "Clarivate Analytics" has started to blacklist such journals since 2006. As reported in the literature, evaluation of journals individually, to detect anomalies from vast and dynamically changing citation network is not efficient. The primary purpose of this work is to define a diverse feature set that can identify such cases of extreme outliers and reason them. The sample size is narrowed down using an unsupervised clustering algorithm in the absence of a labeled training dataset. Next, time‐series IF data is analyzed to detect point outliers. Furthermore, microscopic features are identified to reason them. Results reflected from the F‐value after ANOVA analysis reveals that geometrical patterns (self‐loop, pairwise and group mutual‐citation) among journals, an abrupt increase in the paper count of donor and corresponding IF inflation of recipient are some of the essential features. Microscopic features include social factor (calculation of revised IF after removing directed self or mutual‐citation), impact of the field of study, impact of publication house and author factor that includes author self and mutual‐citation. The significance of this work is to ensure that the quality of a journal is withheld without compromising research integrity by controlling or auditing individual features periodically. Melanoma differentiation associated gene-9 (MDA-9), Syntenin-1, or syndecan binding protein is a differentially regulated prometastatic gene with elevated expression in advanced stages of melanoma. MDA-9/Syntenin expression positively associates with advanced disease stage in multiple histologically distinct cancers and negatively correlates with patient survival and response to chemotherapy. MDA-9/Syntenin is a highly conserved PDZ-domain scaffold protein, robustly expressed in a spectrum of diverse cancer cell lines and clinical samples. PDZ domains interact with a number of proteins, many of which are critical regulators of signaling cascades in cancer. Knockdown of MDA-9/Syntenin decreases cancer cell metastasis, sensitizing these cells to radiation. Genetic silencing of MDA-9/Syntenin or treatment with a pharmacological inhibitor of the PDZ1 domain, PDZ1i, also activates the immune system to kill cancer cells. Additionally, suppression of MDA-9/Syntenin deregulates myeloidderived suppressor cell differentiation via the STAT3/interleukin (IL)-1β pathway, which concomitantly promotes activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Biologically, PDZ1i treatment decreases metastatic nodule formation in the lungs, resulting in significantly fewer invasive cancer cells. In summary, our observations indicate that MDA-9/Syntenin provides a direct therapeutic target for mitigating aggressive breast cancer and a small-molecule inhibitor, PDZ1i, provides a promising reagent for inhibiting advanced breast cancer pathogenesis. To investigate the completeness of coupled channel (CC) Breit–Pauli R-matrix (BPRM) calculations for opacities we employ the relativistic distorted wave (RDW) method to complement ('top-up') and compare the BPRM photoionization cross sections for high- n ℓ levels of both Fe xvii and Fe xviii. Good agreement is found with background photoionization cross sections using these two methods, which also ensures the correct matching of bound level cross sections for completeness. In order to top-up the CC-BPRM calculations, bound–bound transitions involving additional bound levels, and a large number of doubly-excited quasi-bound levels corresponding to BPRM autoionizing resonances described in the paper RMOPII are calculated using the RDW method. Photoionization cross sections in the high energy region are also computed and compared up to about 500 Ry, and contributions from higher core level excitations than BPRM are considered. The effect of configuration interaction is investigated, which plays a significant role in correctly reproducing some background cross sections. Due to the fact that the additional RDW levels correspond to high- n ℓ bound levels that are negligibly populated according to the Mihalas–Hummer–Däppen equation-of-state (paper I), the effect on opacities is expected to be small. Primary, glioblastoma, and secondary brain tumors, from metastases outside the brain, are among the most aggressive and therapeutically resistant cancers. A physiological barrier protecting the brain, the blood–brain barrier (BBB), functions as a deterrent to effective therapies. To enhance cancer therapy, we developed a cancer terminator virus (CTV), a unique tropism‐modified adenovirus consisting of serotype 3 fiber knob on an otherwise Ad5 capsid that replicates in a cancer‐selective manner and simultaneously produces a potent therapeutic cytokine, melanoma differentiation‐associated gene‐7/interleukin‐24 (MDA‐7/IL‐24). A limitation of the CTV and most other viruses, including adenoviruses, is an inability to deliver systemically to treat brain tumors because of the BBB, nonspecific virus trapping, and immune clearance. These obstacles to effective viral therapy of brain cancer have now been overcome using focused ultrasound with a dual microbubble treatment, the focused ultrasound‐double microbubble (FUS‐DMB) approach. Proof‐of‐principle is now provided indicating that the BBB can be safely and transiently opened, and the CTV can then be administered in a second set of complement‐treated microbubbles and released in the brain using focused ultrasound. Moreover, the FUS‐DMB can be used to deliver the CTV multiple times in animals with glioblastoma  growing in their brain thereby resulting in a further enhancement in survival. This strategy permits efficient therapy of primary and secondary brain tumors enhancing animal survival without promoting harmful toxic or behavioral side effects. Additionally, when combined with a standard of care therapy, Temozolomide, a further increase in survival is achieved. The FUS‐DMB approach with the CTV highlights a noninvasive strategy to treat brain cancers without surgery. The colorimetric analysis of food has gained much popularity in the last few decades. The present study reports the development of a low‐cost food color quality testing and process monitoring system. The proposed device consists of a hardware and a software (Color Magic) combination, which may allow the hardware to be used either for quality testing or process monitoring applications. In the quality‐testing mode, the software captures the image of the food products through the imaging system. Subsequently, the software processes the acquired image and computes color parameters in RGB (red, green, blue), CIELAB, and HSI (hue, saturation, intensity) color spaces. The software also synthesizes and displays the perceived color information in the display panel. The datalog of the sample color information can be sent to the user. Further, a separate software (Color Process), which is installed in a central server, was developed to implement a wireless star network topology for multi‐node process monitoring. The "Color Process" software allows users to acquire color information from multiple hardware. The software monitors the Hue from all the devices. It alerts the user via email if the Hue is beyond the range in any of the nodes. Finally, the device was tested for quality testing and process monitoring applications using colored placards and apple slices. The implementation of the wireless sensor network (WSN) in designing the multi‐node process monitoring makes the proposed device a unique system. With the development of electronic devices towards miniaturization, light weight and integration, dielectric thin film-capacitors for recoverable energy storage applications have attracted ever-growing interests owing to their fast charging and discharging rate. In continuation to our investigations for achieving high energy density, we have grown lead free BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (BZT)/Ba0.7Ca0.3TiO3 (BCT) heterostructures and studied the structural, dielectric, ferroelectric and energy density characteristics. The BZT/BCT bilayer epitaxial heterostructures were grown on La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) buffered LaAlO3 (LAO) single crystal substrate by optimized pulsed laser deposition technique. The ferroelectric phase transition has been probed above room temperature with relaxor behavior. These nanostructures show high discharge and charge energy densities of 9.74 and 26.55 J/cm3, respectively. These heterostructures show high dielectric permittivity, large polarization and high energy density characteristics well above room temperature which may be useful for both high power and energy density device applications. Abstract Varying the substrate temperature changes structural and magnetic properties of spinel ferrite Ni 0.65 Zn 0.35 Fe 2 O 4 (NZFO) thin films. X-ray diffraction of films grown at different temperature display only (004) reflections, without any secondary peaks, showing growth orientation along the c-axis. We find an increase in crystalline quality of these thin films with the rise of substrate temperature. The surface topography of thin films grown at different growth temperatures reveal that these films are smooth with low roughness; however, the thin films grown at 800 °C exhibit lowest average and root mean square (rms) roughness among all thin films. We find iron and nickel to be more oxidized (greater Fe3+ and Ni3+ content) in films grown and annealed at 700 °C and 800 °C, compared to those films grown at lower temperatures. The magnetic moment is observed to increase with an increase of substrate temperature and all thin films possess high saturation magnetization and low coercive field at room temperature. Films grown at 800 °C exhibit a ferrimagnetic–paramagnetic phase transition well above room temperature. The observed large magnetizations with soft magnetic behavior in NZFO thin films above room temperature suggest potential applications in memory, spintronics, and multifunctional devices. The main driver for National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD) in India is the threat of diseases to the growth of aquaculture. Keeping this in consideration, the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Government of India (GoI) is implementing NSPAAD involving 31 collaborating centres in 19 states, and this programme is being coordinated by ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow. The programme has been successful in developing a network of aquatic animal health laboratories; diagnostic capability for detection of OIE/NACA-listed and emerging pathogens; mechanism for first time confirmation of new diseases; sending alerts/advisories to stakeholders; and providing scientific advice to the farmers. NSPAAD has helped in strengthening passive disease surveillance, which is evident by detection of seven new pathogens. It has enabled DoF in better understanding of disease situation in the country, and meeting international disease reporting obligations. Research highlights: Sensitivity of initial and boundary conditions (ICs) are studied for an extra-tropical cyclone (ETC, Gong (2013)) over North Atlantic Ocean using WRF model. Movement (track) and synoptic feature of Gong have been evaluated with observations. WRF could simulate the characteristics throughout life cycle of Gong. The model attained intense stage was well simulated. Cyclogenesis and Q-Vector for Gong are sensitive to the ICs and model could simulate better with 48-h lead time. The role of initial conditions (ICs) in the simulation of severe winter storm 'Gong' formed over North Atlantic is studied. The life cycle of Gong started at 1800 UTC of 16–0600 UTC of 22 January, 2013, with CSLP of 972 hPa. The gusty wind (~33 ms−1) and torrential rainfall of ~90 mm d−1 recorded over several major cities of the Iberian peninsula. Five numerical experiments were performed with the WRF model by initializing at 0600 UTC of 16, 1800 UTC of 16, 0600 UTC of 17, 1800 UTC of 17, and 0600 UTC of 18 January, 2013. Our results suggest that significant differences are seen among the experiments, particularly with the ICs of 0600 UTC 17 January, 2013, which represent the quick movement of Gong with a slight underestimation of intensity. The experiment with IC 0600 UTC on 18 January, 2013 produced the best simulation as compared to the observations. The simulated track, intensity, wind flow, and rainfall were well agreeing with the observations. The 12-h average track errors were ranging from 95 to 332 km with 24-, 36-, 48-, 60-, and 72-h lead time. The Q-vectors of Gong with the WRF model with 24-h lead time produced minimum errors. Traffic noise in urban areas is increasing day by day, owing to addition in the number of vehicles on road in developing and developed countries. The increase of noise level reduces the wellbeing of the exposed people. Exposure to high noise results in development of ill health including annoyance, high blood pressure, headache and other physiological and psychological problems. Noise not only affects the human life but also affects animals and birds in the ecosystem. In this experimental study, the evaluation of traffic noise in Berhampur city has been done. Eleven important locations covering the whole city were considered for traffic noise evaluation. Other than the evaluation of traffic noise, the well-known traffic noise prediction models have been tested here. It has been found that, in this situation, such established models do not function well and have a low coefficient of correlation value. A new befitting model has been formulated using multiple regression analysis to predict the traffic noise level and later on, it is also tested as well as validated at different locations. We report on the effects of stacking of the macrocycles in atomic layer deposited (ALD) Al:ZnO thin films on the structural and electrical properties. There is a large change in the resistivity ranging from as high as 1.19×10-3 Ω cm for 760 growth cycles film down to as low as 7.9×10-4 Ω cm for the 4000 cycles. The electrical transport demonstrates a transition from a semiconductor behavior at 760 cycles to a metallic behavior in the 4000 cycle, due to an increase in electron scattering as well as increase in the carrier concentration. However, interestingly the carrier concentration sharply increases with increasing macrocycles containing Al and Zn, exhibiting a nearly metal-like behavior in thicker films. We anticipate that the change in Zn-vacancy, Vzn, formation energy is related to the increase in surface area of the ALD precursor deposition plane. The increase in Vzn density allows for more adsorption of Al-precursor into the doped monolayer, showing interesting electrical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Active learning (AL) technique is the classification of remote sensing images, where collecting efficient training data is costly in terms of labour and the time taken. The prime objective of AL technique is to obtain high classification accuracy with the training sample as compact as possible. Most studies on the classification of remote sensing images using AL, focused only on accuracy, with hardly any study on computation time. Keeping reduction of computation time as the objective, here we present, an entropy query by bagging (EQB)-based AL approach in the extreme learning machine (ELM) framework for remote sensing image classification. The performance of this approach is compared with the widely used support vector machine (SVM) AL framework in combination with different query strategies. To verify the efficacy of the study, the approaches were tested on two hyperspectral remote-sensing images, i.e. Kennedy Space Centre (KSC) and Botswana (BOT). Two-body abrasion is of critical interest in engineering applications due to the severity of material and dimensional loss. In the present work, composites were manufactured through advanced stir-casting route by reinforcing Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy with 0 to 20 wt.% alumina particles. Microstructures of the developed materials were characterized through optical and field emission scanning electron microscopic examinations along with energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses besides measurements of porosity and Vickers hardness. Experimentation on two-body abrasion was carried out over a wide range of loads (20–80 N) and sliding velocities (0.125–1.50 m s−1) against silicon carbide abrasive medium. Tribological performances of base alloy and composites were assessed via evaluation of wear rate and coefficient of friction (COF) in addition to the estimation of surface roughness (SR) of abraded specimens. Composites exhibited higher SR, but lower wear rate and COF than alloy; the extents of those increased with raising reinforcement quantity. With rise in load, wear rate and abraded SR of the developed materials rose but COF decreased. Influence of sliding velocity was nominal on material loss for composites unlike base alloy, whereas SR was found to increase considerably and COF diminished slightly at higher velocities for all materials. Influences of various in-situ and ex-situ parameters on observed tribo-responses were explained through identification of different wear micromechanisms which were established via extensive postwear analyses of surface topography, worn surface, debris, and abraded paper. Rice is the principal food crop for people in South and South-East Asia and is life for millions of rural households worldwide. Bacterial blight (BB) is a very common, widespread, and highly destructive disease of rice. By the introduction of nitrogen-responsive high-yielding rice varieties, there was many-fold increase in the productivity level of tropical rice in recent years. Continuous cropping of rice with high nitrogen use and general wet conditions aggravated the disease incidence. The cost of chemical control measures is high and often shows adverse effects on the environment. Development of host-plant resistance is therefore a preferred approach to control the disease. Evolution of pathogen differentiation in the Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) isolates often causes the breakdown of resistance against the disease. Efforts to deploy R-genes combinations are more important for managing the disease. Durable and broad-spectrum resistance may be achieved in host plants by precise gene incorporation through gene-pyramiding approach. To date, 45 genes conferring resistance to this disease have been identified in rice. The gene-for-gene concept of resistance governs the race-specific interaction between the host and the Xoo strains. Plants have developed different intrinsic mechanisms to defend the pathogen invasion. The pathogen also evolves to produce effectors with variation to counter the patterns-triggered immunity and convert the host plants response for effector-triggered susceptibility. This review discusses the progress in the identification of resistance genes, mechanisms of resistance, and deployment of resistance genes for durable and stable resistance in rice.
