Internal pipe corrosion within water distribution systems leads to iron oxide deposits on pipe walls, potentially contaminating the water supply. Consuming iron oxide-contaminated water can cause significant health issues such as gastrointestinal infections, dermatological problems, and lymph node complications. Therefore, non-destructive and continuous monitoring of pipe corrosion is imperative for water sustainability initiatives. This study introduces a dual-mode methodology utilizing advanced ultrasound technology and convolutional neural networks (CNN) to quantify pipe corrosion. Scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) employs high-frequency ultrasound to generate high-resolution images of pipe thickness, indicating iron oxide accumulation. SAM also captures internal pipe data to measure iron oxide concentration in the water. This data, analyzed by CNN, achieves an impressive 95% accuracy. This study evaluated the determinants of mortality and the T cell immune response in patients with persistent Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB). This was a prospective cohort study and patients with confirmed SAB were enrolled from 2008 to 2020. We compared clinical, microbiological, and genotypic features between surviving and deceased patients with persistent SAB. The concentrations of cytokines and the proportions of IFN-γ secreting CD4+ T cells were measured serially during the bacteremia period. Of the 1760 patients, 242 had persistent bacteremia (PB), and 49 PB patients died within 30 days. In the multivariate analysis, the APACHE II score and female sex were independently associated with 30 days mortality. The level of IL-10 was significantly increased in the plasma of patients with a high Pitt bacteremia score and those who died within 12 weeks from the index day. The proportion of IFN-γ-secreting CD4+ T cells were the highest just before the positive-to-negative conversion of blood cultures in patients with a low Pitt bacteremia score and those who survived for 12 weeks. Background: N-(3-fluoropropyl)-2β-carboxymethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl) nortropane (FP-CIT), the representative cocaine derivative used in dopamine transporter imaging, is a promising biomarker, as it reflects the severity of Parkinson's disease (PD). 123I- and 18F-labeled FP-CIT has been used for PD diagnosis. However, preclinical studies evaluating [18F]FP-CIT as a potential diagnostic biomarker are scarce. Among translational research advancements from bench to bedside, translating preclinical findings into clinical practice is one-directional. The aim of this study is to employ a circular approach, beginning back from the preclinical stage, progressing to the supplementation of [18F]FP-CIT, and subsequently returning to clinical application. We investigated the pharmacokinetic properties of [18F]FP-CIT and its efficacy for PD diagnosis using murine models. Results: Biodistribution, metabolite and excretion analyses were performed in mice and PD models were induced in rats using 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). The targeting efficiency of [18F]FP-CIT for the dopamine receptor was assessed through animal PET/CT imaging. Subsequently, correlation analysis was conducted between animal PET/CT imaging results and immunohistochemistry (IHC) targeting tyrosine hydroxylase. Rapid circulation was confirmed after [18F]FP-CIT injection. [18F]FP-CIT reached the highest uptake of 23.50 ± 12.46%ID/g in the striatum 1 min after injection, and it was rapidly excreted within 60 min. The major metabolic organs of [18F]FP-CIT were confirmed to be the intestines, liver, and kidneys. Its uptake in the intestine was approximately 5% ID/g. The uptake in the liver gradually increased, with excretion beginning after reaching a maximum after 60 min. The kidneys exhibited rapid elimination after 10 min. In the excretion study, rapid elimination was verified, with 21.46 ± 9.53% of the compound excreted within a 6 h period. Additionally, the efficacy of [18F]FP-CIT PET was demonstrated in the PD model, with a high correlation with IHC for both the absolute value (R = 0.803, p = 0.0017) and the ratio value (R = 0.973, p = 0.0011). Conclusions: This study fills the gap regarding insufficient preclinical studies on [18F]FP-CIT, including its ADME, metabolites, and efficiency. The pharmacological results, including accurate diagnosis, rapid circulation, and [18F]FP-CIT excretion, provide complementary evidence that [18F]FP-CIT can be used safely and efficiently to diagnose PD in clinics, although it is already used in clinics. Summary: Our review of 52 RCTs from 5 databases suggests a tendency for notable improvement in BMD when combining herbal medicine with supplements (calcium and vitamin D variants) compared to supplement monotherapy in primary osteoporosis. However, caution is needed in interpreting results due to substantial heterogeneity among included studies. Purpose: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether herbal medicine (HM) plus supplements such as calcium (Ca) or vitamin D (Vit.D) improves bone mineral density (BMD) compared to supplements alone in primary osteoporosis (OP) patients. Methods: We searched 5 databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using HMs with supplements (Ca or Vit.D variants) as interventions for primary OP patients published until August 31, 2022. Meta-analysis using BMD score as the primary outcome was performed using RevMan 5.4 version. Risk of bias in the included studies was assessed useing RoB 2.0 tool. Results: In total, 52 RCTs involving 4,889 participants (1,408 men, 3,481 women) were included, with average BMD scores of 0.690 ± 0.095 g/cm2 (lumbar) and 0.625 ± 0.090 g/cm2 (femoral neck). As a result of performing meta-analysis using BMD scores for all 52 RCTs included in this review, combination of HMs with Ca and Vit.D variants improved the BMD score by 0.08 g/cm2 (lumbar, 38 RCTs, 95% CI: 0.06–0.10, p < 0.001, I2 = 97%) and 0.06 g/cm2 (femoral neck, 19 RCTs, 95% CI: 0.04–0.08, p < 0.001, I2 = 92%)compared to controls. However, statistical significance of the lumbar BMD improvement disappeared after adjusting for potential publication bias. Conclusion: Our data suggest that combining of HM and supplements tends to be more effective in improving BMD in primary OP than supplements alone. Depth estimation tries to obtain 3D scene geometry from low-dimensional data like 2D images. This is a vital operation in computer vision and any general solution must preserve all depth information of potential relevance to support higher-level tasks. For scenes with well-defined depth, this work shows that multi-view edges can encode all relevant information—that multi-view edges are complete. For this, we follow Elder's complementary work on the completeness of 2D edges for image reconstruction. We deploy an image-space geometric representation: an encoding of multi-view scene edges as constraints and a diffusion reconstruction method for inverting this code into depth maps. Due to inaccurate constraints, diffusion-based methods have previously underperformed against deep learning methods; however, we will reassess the value of diffusion-based methods and show their competitiveness without requiring training data. To begin, we work with structured light fields and epipolar plane images (EPIs). EPIs present high-gradient edges in the angular domain: with correct processing, EPIs provide depth constraints with accurate occlusion boundaries and view consistency. Then, we present a differentiable representation form that allows the constraints and the diffusion reconstruction to be optimized in an unsupervised way via a multi-view reconstruction loss. This is based around point splatting via radiative transport, and extends to unstructured multi-view images. We evaluate our reconstructions for accuracy, occlusion handling, view consistency, and sparsity to show that they retain the geometric information required for higher-level tasks. Purpose: This study aimed to reveal the relationship of the days of experiencing sickness presentism and depressive symptoms among Korean workers. Sickness presenteeism which defined as the act of going to work despite being feeling unhealthy triggers various adverse effects on mental health, including increased risks of depression. Furthermore, Sickness presenteeism is a major social issue causing substantial socioeconomic costs. Methods: The data of 25120 participants from sixth Korean Working Condition Survey was utilized in this cross-sectional study. Sickness presenteeism was defined using a self-reported questionnaire and depressive symptoms were assessed by WHO well-being index. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to calculate the odd ratios for depressive symptoms regarding the number of days experiencing sickness presenteeism. We calculated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for depressive symptoms after categorizing participants into three groups based on the duration of experiencing sickness presenteeism, using cut-off values of 3 and 5 days. Results: Workers who have experienced sickness presenteeism for more than 5 days were at highest risk for depressive symptoms than referent group (OR 2.87; 95% CI 2.17–3.76 in male, OR 3.86; 95% CI 3.02–4.91 in female). Furthermore, there was a trend of increasing risk for depressive symptom as the duration of experiencing sickness presenteeism extended. Conclusion: This study presents the association between experiencing sickness presenteeism in the previous 12 months and depressive symptoms. Based on the results, we provide individual and organizational strategies of reducing sickness presenteeism. This paper aims to estimate the structural load applied to the attachment and frame of a wheel loader by using pressure and acceleration, which have a load correlation, instead of strain. First, we propose a data-driven modeling methodology for load estimation. Load features as model input are derived based on cylinder pressure and frame acceleration. The relationship between features and the load is expressed through correlation coefficients and generalized by using the supervised machine learning technique. Next, to experimentally collect the large data set for learning, two wheel loaders of different classes are selected to build sensor cars. Then, the measurements on both wheel loaders are performed repeatedly with four experienced operators according to the test cases. Using conventional learning algorithms, model selection is performed for five parts that make up the attachment and frame. Then, the model learning and evaluation are performed. As a result of an out-of-sample test, the average estimation error for each part is approximately 5 % and the proposed methodology is experimentally verified that it is effective in estimating load for CUP monitoring. Epitaxial buffer layers such as ceria (CeO2)/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) allow the direct integration of functional oxide single crystal thin films on silicon (Si). Microcracks in the buffer layer, often evolving from the large thermal tensile stress, are detrimental to the integration of high-quality complex oxide thin films on Si. In this study, we investigated the evolution of microcracks in sputter-grown epitaxial CeO2 layers by systematically varying the sputtering power and thickness of CeO2 thin films on YSZ single crystal (low thermal mismatch) and YSZ-buffered Si (high thermal mismatch) substrates. Using a plane stress model, we revealed that as the sputtering power increased, the epitaxial CeO2 thin films tended to be more compressively strained at the growth temperature. This could accommodate the tensile strain arising during cooling to room temperature, thereby suppressing the evolution of microcracks. Our result provides not only a method to suppress microcracks in the oxide heterostructure on Si, but also a tool to control their strain state, by controlling their growth parameters. Background: During sentinel node navigation surgery in patients with gastric cancer, intraoperative pathologic examination of sentinel nodes is crucial in determining the extent of surgery. In this study, we evaluated the feasibility and accuracy of intraoperative pathologic protocols using data from a prospective, multicenter, randomized trial. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from the SEntinel Node ORIented Tailored Approach trials from 2013 to 2016. All sentinel lymph nodes were evaluated during surgery with hematoxylin–eosin (HE) staining using a representative section at the largest plane for lymph nodes. For permanent histologic evaluation, sentinel basin nodes were stained with HE and cytokeratin immunohistochemistry in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections and examined with HE for three deeper-step sections at 200-μm intervals. The failure rate of identification by frozen section and the metastasis rate in non-sentinel basins were investigated. Results: Of the 237 patients who underwent sentinel node basin dissection, 30 had lymph node metastases on permanent pathology. Thirteen patients had macrometastasis confirmed in frozen sections as well as FFPE sections (failure rate: 0%). Patients with negative sentinel nodes in frozen sections but micrometastasis in FFPE sections had no lymph node recurrence during the follow-up period (0%, 0/6). However, in cases with tumor-positive nodes in frozen sections, metastases in non-sentinel basins were detected in the paraffin blocks (8.3%, 2/24). Conclusions: The single-section HE staining method is sufficient for detecting macrometastasis via intraoperative pathological examination. Purpose: To examine the ability of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) to answer patients' questions regarding colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Ten clinically relevant questions about CRC were selected from top-rated hospitals' websites and patient surveys and presented to three GAI tools (Chatbot Generative Pre-Trained Transformer [GPT-4], Google Bard, and CLOVA X). Their responses were compared with answers from the CRC information book. Response evaluation was performed by two groups, each consisting of five healthcare professionals (HCP) and patients. Each question was scored on a 1–5 Likert scale based on four evaluation criteria (maximum score, 20 points/question). Results: In an analysis including only HCPs, the information book scored 11.8 ± 1.2, GPT-4 scored 13.5 ± 1.1, Google Bard scored 11.5 ± 0.7, and CLOVA X scored 12.2 ± 1.4 (P = 0.001). The score of GPT-4 was significantly higher than those of the information book (P = 0.020) and Google Bard (P = 0.001). In an analysis including only patients, the information book scored 14.1 ± 1.4, GPT-4 scored 15.2 ± 1.8, Google Bard scored 15.5 ± 1.8, and CLOVA X scored 14.4 ± 1.8, without significant differences (P = 0.234). When both groups of evaluators were included, the information book scored 13.0 ± 0.9, GPT-4 scored 14.4 ± 1.2, Google Bard scored 13.5 ± 1.0, and CLOVA X scored 13.3 ± 1.5 (P = 0.070). Conclusion: The three GAIs demonstrated similar or better communicative competence than the information book regarding questions related to CRC surgery in Korean. If high-quality medical information provided by GAI is supervised properly by HCPs and published as an information book, it could be helpful for patients to obtain accurate information and make informed decisions. Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive and deadly brain cancer. Temozolomide (TMZ) is the standard chemotherapeutic agent for GBM, but the majority of patients experience recurrence and invasion of tumor cells. We investigated whether TMZ treatment of GBM cells regulates matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which have the main function to promote tumor cell invasion. TMZ effectively killed GL261, U343, and U87MG cells at a concentration of 500 µM, and surviving cells upregulated MMP9 expression and its activity but not those of MMP2. TMZ also elevated levels of MMP9 mRNA and MMP9 promoter activity. Subcutaneous graft tumors survived from TMZ treatment also exhibited increased expression of MMP9 and enhanced gelatinolytic activity. TMZ-mediated MMP9 upregulation was specifically mediated through the phosphorylation of p38 and JNK. This then stimulates AP-1 activity through the upregulation of c-Fos and c-Jun. Inhibition of the p38, JNK, or both pathways counteracted the TMZ-induced upregulation of MMP9 and AP-1. This study proposes a potential adverse effect of TMZ treatment for GBM: upregulation of MMP9 expression potentially associated with increased invasion and poor prognosis. This study examined the moderated mediation effect of heightened vigilance and Korean culture acceptance attitude on the relationship between microaggressions and embitterment in multicultural young adults aged 25 to 34 in South Korea. A total of 329 multicultural young adults aged 25 to 34 living in South Korea were surveyed. All participants had acquired Korean nationality, even if one of their parents was a non-Korean. First, a significant correlation was found between microaggressions and heightened vigilance, embitterment, and Korean culture acceptance attitude. Second, heightened vigilance partially mediated the relationship between microaggressions and embitterment. Third, Korean culture acceptance attitude moderated the relationship between heightened vigilance and embitterment. Fourth, heightened vigilance and Korean culture acceptance attitude had a moderated mediation effect on the relationship between microaggressions and embitterment. The present study is meaningful in that it examined the mechanisms of discrimination and psychological maladjustment among multicultural young adults and explored the factors that can be overcome in the context of the increasing immigrant population in Korea. Background: Many cases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are diagnosed in the emergency department, and abbreviated lower extremity venous point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has already shown an accuracy comparable to that of specialists. This study aimed to identify the learning curve necessary for emergency medicine (EM) residents to achieve expertise-level accuracy in diagnosing DVT through a 3-point lower extremity venous POCUS. Methods: This prospective study was conducted at an emergency department between May 2021 and October 2022. Four EM residents underwent a one-hour POCUS training session and performed DVT assessments in participants with DVT symptoms or confirmed pulmonary embolism. POCUS was performed at three proximal lower extremity sites to evaluate the thrombi presence and vein compressibility, with results validated by specialized radiology ultrasound. Cumulative sum (CUSUM) and the Bush and Mosteller models were used to analyze the learning curve, while generalized estimating equations were used to identify factors affecting diagnostic accuracy. Results: 91 POCUS scans were conducted in 49 patients, resulting in 22% DVT confirmed by specialized venous ultrasound. In the CUSUM analysis, all four EM residents attained a 90% success rate at the common femoral vein, whereas only half achieved this rate when all three sites were considered. According to Bush and Mosteller models, 13–18 cases are required to attain 90–95% diagnostic accuracy. After 10–16 cases, the examination time for each resident decreased, and a 20% increase in examiner confidence was linked to a 2.506-fold increase in the DVT diagnosis accuracy. Conclusion: EM residents generally required 13–18 cases for 90–95% DVT diagnostic accuracy, but proficiency varied among individuals, particularly requiring more cases for regions outside the common femoral vein. In this multi-center, assessor-blinded pilot study, the diagnostic efficacy of cCeLL-Ex vivo, a second-generation confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE), was compared against the gold standard frozen section analysis for intraoperative brain tumor diagnosis. The study was conducted across three tertiary medical institutions in the Republic of Korea. Biopsy samples from newly diagnosed brain tumor patients were categorized based on location and divided for permanent section analysis, frozen section analysis, and cCeLL-Ex vivo imaging. Of the 74 samples from 55 patients, the majority were from the tumor core (74.3%). cCeLL-Ex vivo exhibited a relatively higher diagnostic accuracy (89.2%) than frozen section analysis (86.5%), with both methods showing a sensitivity of 92.2%. cCeLL-Ex vivo also demonstrated higher specificity (70% vs. 50%), positive predictive value (PPV) (95.2% vs. 92.2%), and negative predictive value (NPV) (58.3% vs. 50%). Furthermore, the time from sample preparation to diagnosis was notably shorter with cCeLL-Ex vivo (13 min 17 s) compared to frozen section analysis (28 min 28 s) (p-value < 0.005). These findings underscore cCeLL-Ex vivo's potential as a supplementary tool for intraoperative brain tumor diagnosis, with future studies anticipated to further validate its clinical utility. The untargeted metabolomics-based molecular networking approach combined with multivariate analysis, proves to be an effective strategy for distinguishing raw materials in herbal medicine according to specific criteria. It exhibits the correlations between chemical constituents and the geographical habitats of plants, providing a valuable tool for ensuring quality control in mass production within the industry. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of the chemical compositions of Epimedium koreanum Nakai and performed comparative analyses on four extracts collected from distinct regions in South Korea using untargeted metabolomics tools. Through the comprehensive use of UPLC-QTOF/MS analysis and advanced statistical techniques, we elucidated the chemical composition, leading to the identification of key chemical markers. Additionally, the molecular networking analysis revealed distinct clusters of flavonoids and phenolic acids, highlighting the influence of regional factors on the metabolite profiles. These findings offer a promising avenue for enhancing quality control and traceability in the herbal medicine industry, underscoring the important role of geographical variation in the chemical profiles of herbal products. Extracellular fluid (ECF) excess is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study (involving 284 patients with CKD) explored the association between choroidal vascularity index (CVI) and ECF excess. We categorised patients into three groups based on extracellular water/total body water: normal, mildly overhydrated, and severely overhydrated. The more severe ECF status was associated with a lower CVI after adjustment (B = − 0.902, p = 0.001). In non-diabetic patients, both vascular luminal (LA, p < 0.001) and stromal areas (SA, p = 0.003) were significantly reduced in patients with severe ECF excess compared to others, whereas diabetic patients showed no significant differences in LA (p = 0.96) and SA (p = 0.86) based on ECF excess status. Background: Status epilepticus (SE) is a critical neurological emergency in patients with neurological and nonneurological diseases. Mortality rises with SE severity. However, whether brain injury or systemic organ dysfunction causes death after SE remains unclear. We studied clinical outcomes and systemic dysfunctions associated with SE using standardized data from the common data model. This model includes clinical evaluations and treatments that provide real-world evidence for standard practice. Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the common data model database of a single tertiary academic medical center. Patients diagnosed with SE (corresponding to G41 of the International Classification of Diseases 10 and administration of antiseizure medication) between January 1, 2001, and January 1, 2018, were enrolled. Demographics, classifications of SE severity, and outcomes were collected as operational definitions by using a common data model format. Systemic complications were defined based on the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment criteria. Results: The electronic medical records of 1,825,196 patients were transformed into a common data model, and 410 patients were enrolled. The proportion of patients classified as having nonrefractory SE was 65.4% (268/410), followed by refractory (28.5%, 117/410) and super-refractory SE (6.1%, 25/410). Patients with more severe SE had longer intensive care unit and hospital stays. Renal dysfunction and thrombocytopenia were higher in the in-hospital death group (P = 0.002 and 0.003, respectively). In multivariable analysis, the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score and platelet count were significantly different in the in-hospital death group (odds ratio, 1.169, P = 0.004; and 0.989, P = 0.043). Conclusions: Systemic complications after SE, especially low platelet counts, were linked to worse outcomes and increased mortality in a common data model. This study aimed to investigate the effects of high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on chronic cough patients with elevated fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) levels. In a prospective study, adults with chronic cough and FeNO ≥ 25 ppb, without any other apparent etiology, received fluticasone furoate (200 mcg) for three weeks. Outcomes were evaluated using FeNO levels, cough severity, and Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) before and after treatment. Of the fifty participants (average age: 58.4 years; 58% female), the treatment responder rate (≥ 1.3-point increase in LCQ) was 68%, with a significant improvement in cough and LCQ scores and FeNO levels post-treatment. However, improvements in cough did not significantly correlate with changes in FeNO levels. These findings support the guideline recommendations for a short-term ICS trial in adults with chronic cough and elevated FeNO levels, but the lack of correlations between FeNO levels and cough raises questions about their direct mechanistic link. The value of Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) for school and system improvement is widely acknowledged in education research and policy. Still, the question of how learning happens for teachers and education leaders involved in PLNs remains largely unanswered. Moreover, little research exists on the increasing number of international networks for professional learning developed among education systems globally. This case study explores one such network, which we identify as a Global Learning Network (GLN), the ARC Education Project. ARC describes itself as a self-funded network of policymakers, scholars, and system leaders from a range of national and state-level systems with a shared commitment to equity, excellence, wellbeing, inclusion, sustainability, democracy, and human rights. Employing content analysis, we analyze observational notes and materials from ARC summit meetings, joint statements issued by ARC systems, membership records, and other key ARC documents. We draw from Rodway and Farley-Ripple's (2020) application of social network theory to examine this GLN as a relational space, given the challenges of global collaboration. We consider five key components of PLN efficacy: collaboration, sense of purpose, reflective professional inquiry, leadership, and boundary crossing. Specifically, we interrogate how the boundedness of ARC's membership mediates opportunities for the construction of new knowledge in the network. Considering the significant burden of post-acute COVID-19 conditions among patients infected with SARS-CoV-2, we aimed to identify the risk of acute respiratory complications or post-acute respiratory sequelae. A binational population-based cohort study was conducted to analyze the risk of acute respiratory complications or post-acute respiratory sequelae after SARS-CoV-2 infection. We used a Korean nationwide claim-based cohort (K-COV-N; n = 2,312,748; main cohort) and a Japanese claim-based cohort (JMDC; n = 3,115,606; replication cohort) after multi-to-one propensity score matching. Among 2,312,748 Korean participants (mean age, 47.2 years [SD, 15.6]; 1,109,708 [48.0%] female), 17.1% (394,598/2,312,748) were infected with SARS-CoV-2. The risk of acute respiratory complications or post-acute respiratory sequelae is significantly increased in people with SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to the general population (acute respiratory complications: HR, 8.06 [95% CI, 6.92-9.38]; post-acute respiratory sequelae: 1.68 [1.62-1.75]), and the risk increased with increasing COVID-19 severity. We identified COVID-19 vaccination as an attenuating factor, showing a protective association against acute or post-acute respiratory conditions. Furthermore, while the excess post-acute risk diminished with time following SARS-CoV-2 infection, it persisted beyond 6 months post-infection. The replication cohort showed a similar pattern in the association. Our study comprehensively evaluates respiratory complications in post-COVID-19 conditions, considering attenuating factors such as vaccination status, post-infection duration, COVID-19 severity, and specific respiratory conditions. Transparent radiative cooling holds the promise to efficiently manage thermal conditions in various electronic devices without additional energy consumption. Radiative cooling cover windows designed for foldable and flexible displays could enhance cooling capacities in the ubiquitous deployment of flexible electronics in outdoor environments. However, previous demonstrations have not met the optical, mechanical, and moisture-impermeable criteria for such cover windows. Herein, we report transparent radiative cooling metamaterials with a thickness of 50 microns as a cover window of foldable and flexible displays by rational design and synthesis of embedding optically-modulating microstructures in clear polyimide. The resulting outcome not only includes excellent light emission in the atmospheric window under the secured optical transparency but also provides enhanced mechanical and moisture-impermeable properties to surpass the demands of target applications. Our metamaterials not only substantially mitigate the temperature rise in heat-generating devices exposed to solar irradiance but also enhance the thermal management of devices in dark conditions. The light output performance of light-emitting diodes in displays on which the metamaterials are deployed is greatly enhanced by suppressing the performance deterioration associated with thermalization. Compared to polycrystalline semiconductors, amorphous semiconductors offer inherent cost-effective, simple and uniform manufacturing. Traditional amorphous hydrogenated Si falls short in electrical properties, necessitating the exploration of new materials. The creation of high-mobility amorphous n-type metal oxides, such as a-InGaZnO (ref. 1), and their integration into thin-film transistors (TFTs) have propelled advancements in modern large-area electronics and new-generation displays2–8. However, finding comparable p-type counterparts poses notable challenges, impeding the progress of complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor technology and integrated circuits9–11. Here we introduce a pioneering design strategy for amorphous p-type semiconductors, incorporating high-mobility tellurium within an amorphous tellurium suboxide matrix, and demonstrate its use in high-performance, stable p-channel TFTs and complementary circuits. Theoretical analysis unveils a delocalized valence band from tellurium 5p bands with shallow acceptor states, enabling excess hole doping and transport. Selenium alloying suppresses hole concentrations and facilitates the p-orbital connectivity, realizing high-performance p-channel TFTs with an average field-effect hole mobility of around 15 cm2 V−1 s−1 and on/off current ratios of 106–107, along with wafer-scale uniformity and long-term stabilities under bias stress and ambient ageing. This study investigates the relationship between work overload and employee cybersecurity behavior, with a particular focus on the moderating role of self-efficacy in artificial intelligence (AI) use. Grounded in a multidisciplinary theoretical framework, the research integrates concepts from the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model, Cognitive Load Theory, Social Identity Theory, and Protection Motivation Theory. Data were collected from 410 employees in South Korea through a three-wave time-lagged survey, analyzing the impact of work overload on cybersecurity behavior mediated by job stress and organizational identification, and moderated by self-efficacy in AI. The current study reveals a negative impact of work overload on employee cybersecurity behavior, mediated by job stress and organizational identification. Also, self-efficacy in AI use significantly moderates the relationship between work overload and job stress, mitigating the adverse effects of workload on cybersecurity behavior. The findings extend existing literature by demonstrating how organizational psychology theories can be applied to understand cybersecurity behavior in the workplace. This study highlights the importance of managing work overload and enhancing AI self-efficacy to improve cybersecurity practices in organizations. The study underscores the need for organizations to address work overload as a part of their cybersecurity strategy and to invest in AI self-efficacy training. The findings advocate for an interdisciplinary approach to cybersecurity, integrating insights from organizational psychology and AI technology. In reconstructive surgery, complications post-fibula free flap (FFF) reconstruction, notably peri-implant hyperplasia, are significant yet understudied. This study analyzed peri-implant hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF, alongside peri-implantitis and foreign body granulation (FBG) tissues from patients treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Using light microscopy, pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia, anucleate and pyknotic prickle cells, and excessive collagen deposition were observed in FFF hyperplastic tissue. Ultrastructural analyses revealed abnormal structures, including hemidesmosome dilation, bacterial invasion, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) swelling. In immunohistochemical analysis, unfolded protein-response markers ATF6, PERK, XBP1, inflammatory marker NFκB, necroptosis marker MLKL, apoptosis marker GADD153, autophagy marker LC3, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and angiogenesis markers were expressed variably in hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF implants, peri-implantitis, and FBG tissues. NFκB expression was higher in peri-implantitis and FBG tissues compared to hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF implants. PERK expression exceeded XBP1 significantly in FFF hyperplastic tissue, while expression levels of PERK, XBP1, and ATF6 were not significantly different in peri-implantitis and FBG tissues. These findings provide valuable insights into the interconnected roles of ER stress, necroptosis, apoptosis, and angiogenesis in the pathogenesis of oral pathologies, offering a foundation for innovative strategies in dental implant rehabilitation management and prevention. In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping workplace dynamics, this study addresses the pressing need to understand the intricate relationships between job insecurity, psychological safety, and employee depression. Despite extensive research in this domain, significant gaps remain, particularly in comprehending how technological advancements influence these relationships. This research overcomes these challenges by introducing a novel approach that incorporates the mediating role of psychological safety and the moderating influence of employee self-efficacy in AI use. To empirically test our hypotheses, we employed a stratified random sampling method to collect data from 408 employees across various South Korean firms. Also, we utilized 3 wave time-lagged research design to enhance the robustness of the findings. The results which were based on the structural equation modeling analysis indicate that all study hypotheses are supported. The findings not only bridge a crucial gap in the existing literature but also offer a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological impacts of job insecurity in an AI-integrated work environment. The reaction characteristics of the SO2 oxidation catalyst by the catalyst preparation method were analyzed by investigating the catalyst properties on the TiO2 support using a vanadium-alkali (K) compound containing the catalyst. The slurry mix method and the dry ball milling method were used for the production of the catalyst. In this process, the difference in interaction between the active material (V) and the support (TiO2) has been confirmed. Especially, the high proportion of non-stoichiometric species of the initial catalyst reflects the high interaction between vanadium and TiO2. Therefore, an increase in non-stoichiometric species such as V4+ indicates an increase in the interaction between TiO2 and V2O5. In particular, the interaction between the support-active material improves the transfer of SO2 adsorbed on the support TiO2 to the active material (V2O5). Objective: To evaluate predictive value of the myopia growth chart based on population-based health survey data using longitudinal cohorts. Methods: Patients aged from 5 to 18 years and underwent two or more cycloplegic refraction (CR) exams with at least one year of interval were included. Percentile deviation was calculated by subtracting percentile at final exam from the percentile at initial exam based on the chart. Spherical equivalent (SE) deviation was calculated by SE at final CR subtracted from predicted SE based on initial CR using the chart. Results: 2310 eyes from 1155 subjects were included. There were 1344 eyes (58.2%) categorized as inliers, where both initial and final CR were within the 2nd to 99th percentile. Mean percentile and SE deviations were + 11.0 ± 22.9 percentiles and -0.60 ± 1.33 diopters, each. Outliers, those except the inliers, were 966 eyes (41.8%). Most outliers (709 eyes, 73.4%) were outside the chart for both initial and final exam. The rest of the outliers (257 eyes, 26.2%) were within the 2 to 99 percentile range on the chart at least once, either at initial or final exams; most of those (202 eyes, 78.6%) progressed toward myopia more than predicted. Conclusions: In our large cohorts, both inliers and outliers tended to progress toward more myopia than predicted from the chart. This suggests the chart predicts childhood myopia rather conservatively. The myopia growth chart may be useful as a screening tool in detecting children at high risk of developing high myopia. Fiber-based commodities represent a substantial fraction of plastic waste, leading to environmental harm. Discarded sanitary masks and fishing equipment undergo degradation, generating microfiber plastics, thereby presenting a notable hazard to both human health and the ecosystem. In this study, mechanically strong and environmentally friendly nanocomposite fibers were prepared by dry-jet wet spinning. The all-biomass-based fibers comprised agar and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) as the matrix and nanofiller, respectively, and were highly miscible in deionized water as a cosolvent. Based on rheological characterization, the optimal spinning concentration and temperature were set to 13% (w/v) and 95 °C, respectively. The dry-jet wet-spun agar-based fibers exhibited remarkable mechanical performance compared with previously reported agar-based materials. In particular, the 1 wt% CNC (with respect to the agar amount) simultaneously improved the Young's modulus, strength, and toughness by 8.3, 4.8, and 16.4% (2.6 GPa, 93.5 MPa, and 7.8 MJ m−3), respectively, compared to those of the control agar fibers (2.4 GPa, 89.2 MPa, and 6.7 MJ m−3), overcoming the trade-off of stiffness-toughness for conventional nanocomposite systems. In addition, the agar/CNC nanocomposite fibers rapidly adsorbed Methylene blue within 90 min, which is significantly faster than that of the film-type agar adsorbent. Purpose: Distinguishing between complicated and uncomplicated Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) is therapeutically essential. However, this distinction has limitations in reflecting the heterogeneity of SAB and encouraging targeted diagnostics. Recently, a new risk stratification system for SAB metastatic infection, involving stepwise approaches to diagnosis and treatment, has been suggested. We assessed its applicability in methicillin-resistant SAB (MRSAB) patients. Methods: We retrospectively analysed data of a 3-year multicentre, prospective cohort of hospitalised patients with MRSAB. We classified the patients into three risk groups: low, indeterminate, and high, based on the new system and compared between-group management and outcomes. Results: Of 380 patients with MRSAB, 6.3% were classified as low-, 7.6% as indeterminate-, and 86.1% as high-risk for metastatic infection. No metastatic infection occurred in the low-, 6.9% in the indeterminate-, and 19.6% in the high-risk groups (P < 0.001). After an in-depth diagnostic work-up, patients were finally diagnosed as 'without metastatic infection (6.3%)', 'with metastatic infection (17.4%)', and 'uncertain for metastatic infection (76.3%)'. 30-day mortality increased as the severity of diagnosis shifted from 'without metastatic infection' to 'uncertain for metastatic infection' and 'with metastatic infection' (P = 0.09). In multivariable analysis, independent factors associated with metastatic complications were suspicion of endocarditis in transthoracic echocardiography, clinical signs of metastatic infection, Pitt bacteraemia score ≥ 4, and persistent bacteraemia. Conclusions: The new risk stratification system shows promise in predicting metastatic complications and guiding work-up and management of MRSAB. Wound healing involves a complex and dynamic interplay among various cell types, cytokines, and growth factors. Macrophages and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) play an essential role in different phases of wound healing. Cold atmospheric plasma has a wide range of applications in the treatment of chronic wounds. Hence, we aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of a custom-made plasma device in a full-thickness skin defect mouse model. Here, we investigated the wound tissue on days 6 and 12 using histology, qPCR, and western blotting. During the inflammation phase of wound repair, macrophages play an important role in the onset and resolution of inflammation, showing decreased F4/80 on day 6 of plasma treatment and increased TGF-β1 levels. The plasma-treated group showed better epidermal epithelialization, dermal fibrosis, collagen maturation, and reduced inflammation than the control group. Our findings revealed that floating electrode-dielectric barrier discharge (FE-DBD)-based atmospheric-pressure plasma promoted significantly faster wound healing in the plasma-treated group than that in the control group with untreated wounds. Hence, plasma treatment accelerated wound healing processes without noticeable side effects and suppressed pro-inflammatory genes, suggesting that FE-DBD-based plasma could be a potential therapeutic option for treating various wounds. This study empirically investigates the revenue return to differential seat pricing in the Korean movie theater market and how it is affected by competition. In March 2016, one of three major multiplex chains in the market divided the seats in most of its screening auditoria into prime (high-quality), standard (medium-quality), and economy (low-quality) zones, and started charging different prices for each seating zone. For the analysis, we construct a unique dataset that contains ticket prices and the number of tickets that are sold at the show level. We find that differential seat pricing increases revenue on average by 10.6%, but does not affect the number of tickets sold. Based on the results, we suggest that in a situation in which a large number of seats remain unsold, the pricing scheme involves encouraging the sale of the prime zone seats by increasing their price only slightly. By measuring the degree of competition as the number of showings of the same movie that are played by neighboring theaters at a similar time, we also find that competition has a small negative effect on the revenue gain from differential seat pricing. Robot-assisted surgery platforms are utilized globally thanks to their stereoscopic vision systems and enhanced functional assistance. However, the necessity of ergonomic improvement for their use by surgeons has been increased. In surgical robots, issues with chronic fatigue exist owing to the fixed posture of the conventional stereo viewer (SV) vision system. A head-mounted display was adopted to alleviate the inconvenience, and a virtual vision platform (VVP) is proposed in this study. The VVP can provide various critical data, including medical images, vital signs, and patient records, in three-dimensional virtual reality space so that users can access medical information simultaneously. An availability of the VVP was investigated based on various user evaluations by surgeons and novices, who executed the given tasks and answered questionnaires. The performances of the SV and VVP were not significantly different; however, the craniovertebral angle of the VVP was 16.35° higher on average than that of the SV. Survey results regarding the VVP were positive; participants indicated that the optimal number of displays was six, preferring the 2 × 3 array. Background: Patients with multiple myeloma exhibit malignant osteolytic bone disease due to excessive osteoclast formation and function. We recently identified that osteoclastogenic stimulator selenoprotein W (SELENOW) is upregulated via ERK signaling and downregulated via p38 signaling during receptor activator of nuclear factor (NF)-κΒ ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation. In the intrinsic physiological process, RANKL-induced downregulation of SELENOW maintains proper osteoclast differentiation; in contrast, forced overexpression of SELENOW leads to overactive osteoclast formation and function. Methods and results: We observed that SELENOW is highly expressed in multiple myeloma-derived peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and mature osteoclasts when compared to healthy controls. Also, the level of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), a pathological osteoclastogenic factor, is increased in the PBMCs and serum of patients with multiple myeloma. ERK activation by TNFα was more marked and sustained than that by RANKL, allowing SELENOW upregulation. Excessive expression of SELENOW in osteoclast progenitors and mature osteoclasts derived from multiple myeloma facilitated efficient nuclear translocation of osteoclastogenic transcription factors NF-κB and NFATc1, which are favorable for osteoclast formation. Conclusion: Our findings suggest a possibility that feedforward signaling of osteoclastogenic SELENOW by TNFα derived from multiple myeloma induces overactive osteoclast differentiation, leading to bone loss during multiple myeloma. The synthesis of sequence-regulated oligosulfates has not yet been established due to the difficulties in precise reactivity control. In this work, we report an example of a multi-directional divergent iterative method to furnish oligosulfates based on a chain homologation approach, in which the fluorosulfate unit is regenerated. The oligosulfate sequences are determined by high resolution mass spectrometry of the hydrolyzed fragments, and polysulfate periodic copolymers are synthesized by using oligomeric bisfluorosulfates in a bi-directional fashion. The synthetic utility of this iterative ligation is demonstrated by preparing crosslinked network polymers as synthetic adhesive materials. To realize economically feasible electrochemical CO2 conversion, achieving a high partial current density for value-added products is particularly vital. However, acceleration of the hydrogen evolution reaction due to cathode flooding in a high-current-density region makes this challenging. Herein, we find that partially ligand-derived Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) could prevent electrolyte flooding while maintaining catalytic activity for CO2 electroreduction. This results in a high Faradaic efficiency for CO (>90%) and high partial current density (298.39 mA cm‒2), even under harsh stability test conditions (3.4 V). The suppressed splitting/detachment of Ag particles, due to the lipid ligand, enhance the uniform hydrophobicity retention of the Ag-NP electrode at high cathodic overpotentials and prevent flooding and current fluctuations. The mass transfer of gaseous CO2 is maintained in the catalytic region of several hundred nanometers, with the smooth formation of a triple phase boundary, which facilitate the occurrence of CO2RR instead of HER. We analyze catalyst degradation and cathode flooding during CO2 electrolysis through identical-location transmission electron microscopy and operando synchrotron-based X-ray computed tomography. This study develops an efficient strategy for designing active and durable electrocatalysts for CO2 electrolysis. A key factor for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to CO is limiting the competing H2 evolution reaction. Objectives: To evaluate whether the quantitative abnormality scores provided by artificial intelligence (AI)-based computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) for mammography interpretation can be used to predict invasive upgrade in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) diagnosed on percutaneous biopsy. Methods: Four hundred forty DCIS in 420 women (mean age, 52.8 years) diagnosed via percutaneous biopsy from January 2015 to December 2019 were included. Mammographic characteristics were assessed based on imaging features (mammographically occult, mass/asymmetry/distortion, calcifications only, and combined mass/asymmetry/distortion with calcifications) and BI-RADS assessments. Routine pre-biopsy 4-view digital mammograms were analyzed using AI-CAD to obtain abnormality scores (AI-CAD score, ranging 0–100%). Multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify independent predictive mammographic variables after adjusting for clinicopathological variables. A subgroup analysis was performed with mammographically detected DCIS. Results: Of the 440 DCIS, 117 (26.6%) were upgraded to invasive cancer. Three hundred forty-one (77.5%) DCIS were detected on mammography. The multivariable analysis showed that combined features (odds ratio (OR): 2.225, p = 0.033), BI-RADS 4c or 5 assessments (OR: 2.473, p = 0.023 and OR: 5.190, p < 0.001, respectively), higher AI-CAD score (OR: 1.009, p = 0.007), AI-CAD score ≥ 50% (OR: 1.960, p = 0.017), and AI-CAD score ≥ 75% (OR: 2.306, p = 0.009) were independent predictors of invasive upgrade. In mammographically detected DCIS, combined features (OR: 2.194, p = 0.035), and higher AI-CAD score (OR: 1.008, p = 0.047) were significant predictors of invasive upgrade. Conclusion: The AI-CAD score was an independent predictor of invasive upgrade for DCIS. Higher AI-CAD scores, especially in the highest quartile of ≥ 75%, can be used as an objective imaging biomarker to predict invasive upgrade in DCIS diagnosed with percutaneous biopsy. Critical relevance statement: Noninvasive imaging features including the quantitative results of AI-CAD for mammography interpretation were independent predictors of invasive upgrade in lesions initially diagnosed as ductal carcinoma in situ via percutaneous biopsy and therefore may help decide the direction of surgery before treatment. As mounting evidence suggests a higher incidence of adverse consequences, such as disruption of the immune system, among patients with a history of COVID-19, we aimed to investigate post-COVID-19 conditions on a comprehensive set of allergic diseases including asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and food allergy. We used nationwide claims-based cohorts in South Korea (K-CoV-N; n = 836,164; main cohort) and Japan (JMDC; n = 2,541,021; replication cohort A) and the UK Biobank cohort (UKB; n = 325,843; replication cohort B) after 1:5 propensity score matching. Among the 836,164 individuals in the main cohort (mean age, 50.25 years [SD, 13.86]; 372,914 [44.6%] women), 147,824 were infected with SARS-CoV-2 during the follow-up period (2020−2021). The risk of developing allergic diseases, beyond the first 30 days of diagnosis of COVID-19, significantly increased (HR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.13−1.27), notably in asthma (HR, 2.25; 95% CI, 1.80−2.83) and allergic rhinitis (HR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.15−1.32). This risk gradually decreased over time, but it persisted throughout the follow-up period (≥6 months). In addition, the risk increased with increasing severity of COVID-19. Notably, COVID-19 vaccination of at least two doses had a protective effect against subsequent allergic diseases (HR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.68−0.96). Prior research has predominantly focused on the overall effects of the tobacco tax increase and the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent smoking behavior. However, there is a need to examine both the immediate and sustained associations of these two factors on subgroups of adolescents, employing an interrupted time-series model. We aimed to investigate the immediate and sustained association of tobacco tax increase and the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent smoking prevalence. This study utilized data from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey to analyze the prevalence of current smoking among all participants (CSP) and the prevalence of daily smoking among current smokers (DSP) of Korean adolescents (n = 1,159,995; mean, age 14.99; male 51.5%) over 18 years from 2005 to 2022. The study examined 18-year trends in CSP and DSP among Korean adolescents, emphasizing the influences of the 2015 tobacco tax increase and the COVID-19 pandemic, using β coefficients and their differences (βdiff) from an interrupted time-series ARIMA model. While CSP exhibited a decreasing trend, DSP exhibited an increasing trend. Tobacco tax increase was associated with both the short and long terms in smoking prevalence, however, the short-term association on prevalence (CSP, − 3.076 [95% CI, − 3.707 to − 2.445]; DSP, − 4.112 [95% CI, − 6.488 to − 1.735]) was stronger. The pandemic was associated with an immediate increase in DSP (9.345 [95% CI, 5.285–13.406]). These effects were strongest among adolescents from low economic status and those exposed to familial secondhand smoking. Supportive programs for adolescents in low-income families will help overcome the effects associated with the pandemic. Opsoclonus refers to saccadic oscillations without an intersaccadic interval occurring in multiple planes. Opsoclonus mostly indicates dysfunction of the brainstem or cerebellum. We report opsoclonus induced by horizontal head-shaking without other signs of brainstem or cerebellar dysfunction in two patients with vestibular migraine (VM). The development of opsoclonus after horizontal head-shaking indicates unstable or hyperactive neural circuits between the excitatory and inhibitory saccadic premotor burst neurons in these patients with VM. Background: Endoscopic full-thickness gastric resection (EFTGR) with regional lymph node dissection (LND) has been used for early gastric cancer (EGC) exceeding the indications for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The extent of the dissected lymph nodes is crucial. A 3D near-infrared (NIR) video robot system significantly enhances visualization of the lymphatic system. However, this system has not been used in EFTGR with LND. Thus, this study assessed the benefits of the 3D NIR video robot system in a clinical setting. Methods: Between February 2015 and September 2018, 24 patients with EGC exceeding the indications for ESD were treated with EFTGR and LND using a 3D NIR video system with the da Vinci surgical robot. Indocyanine green (ICG) was injected endoscopically around the tumor, and basin node (BN) dissection around the nodes was examined using the 3D NIR video system of the da Vinci Si surgical robot. Subsequently, robot-assisted EFTGR was performed. The primary outcome was the 5-year survival rate. Result: During a 5-year follow-up of all 24 patients, an 80-year-old patient with an ulcer and T2 invasion was lost to follow-up. Among the remaining 23 patients, no mortality or recurrence was observed. Conclusion: No metastasis or mortality occurred using the da Vinci robot-assisted EFTGR with LLND and a 3D NIR video system for patients who required radical gastrectomy for EGC in over 5 years. Introduction: A history of lung transplantation is a risk factor for poor outcomes in patients undergoing laparoscopic fundoplication. We wanted to determine whether enhanced recovery after a robotic-assisted surgery program would mitigate these risks. Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective analysis of the Society of Thoracic Surgery database for patients who underwent elective antireflux procedures from 1/2018 to 2/2021 under the enhanced recovery after surgery program using robotic assistance. We identified the patient and surgical characteristics, morbidity, length of stay, and 30-day readmission rates. Results: Among 386 patients who underwent barrier creation, 41 had previously undergone a lung transplant, either bilateral (n = 28) or single (n = 13). There were no significant differences in postoperative complications (9.8% vs. 5.2%, p = 0.27), median hospital length of stay (1 d vs. 1 d, p = 0.28), or 30-day readmission (7.3% vs. 4.9%, p = 0.46). Bivariate analysis showed that older age (p = 0.03), history of DVT/PE (p < 0.001), history of cerebrovascular events (p = 0.03), opioid dependence (p = 0.02), neurocognitive dysfunction (p < 0.001), and dependent functional status (p = 0.02) were associated with postoperative complications. However, lung transplantation was not associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications (p = 0.28). Discussion: The risk of surgical complications in patients with a history of lung transplantation may be mitigated by the combination of ERAS and minimally invasive surgery such as robot-assisted surgery. Background: An anastomotic stricture after colorectal surgery is principally managed by endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD). Although this intervention is effective, however, subsequent procedures or surgical interventions are often required. This study aimed to assess the long-term outcomes of EBD for anastomotic stricture arising from colorectal cancer surgery. Materials and methods: We analyzed 173 patients who received curative surgery for colorectal cancer at our hospital between January 2000 and December 2022 and had undergone EBD to manage anastomotic stricture. The medical records of these cases were retrospectively reviewed to assess the outcomes and risk factors for restenosis and permanent stoma. Results: Of the 173 study patients, 41 (23.7%) presented with restenosis with a median time to recurrence of 49 [37–150] days. The restenosis group was significantly younger (55.6 years versus 60.8 years), with a more prominent rectal location (80.5% versus 57.6%), a higher incidence of hand-sewn anastomosis (24.4% versus 5.3%), and a higher percentage of neoadjuvant radiotherapy (34.1% versus 5.3%, P < 0.001). Multivariable analysis indicated neoadjuvant radiotherapy (adjusted HR 2.48; 95% CI 1.03–5.95) and cerebral vascular disease (adjusted HR 6.97; 95% CI 2.15–22.54) as independent prognostic factors for restenosis. Fourteen patients (8.1%) required a permanent stoma due to treatment failure. All cases needing a permanent stoma were male (14 patients, 100%, P = 0.007) and this group had a higher rate of neoadjuvant radiotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy, and hand-sewn anastomosis. Conclusion: Patients receiving neoadjuvant radiotherapy are most prone to restenosis after an EBD intervention to manage an anastomotic stricture. Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is an enteropathogenic swine coronavirus that causes severe diarrheal disease in suckling piglets and young pigs, leading to death. Transfer of maternal neutralizing antibodies from sows to piglets is critical to protecting piglets from PDCoV. Therefore, highly immunogenic antigens are required for the development of effective vaccine. Here, we produced plant-based recombinant protein vaccine against PDCoV in the form of bacteria-like particles (BLPs) using Lactococcus lactis to enhance the antigenicity. The S1 domain of spike protein from KNU16-07 strain was used as an antigen. The antigen was fused with lysine motifs (LysM) and coiled domains of coronin 1 (ccCor1) for L. lactis surface display. This fusion strategy facilitated the separation of the expressed proteins and increased antigenicity. The recombinant proteins were expressed in Nicotiana benthamiana and purified as BLPs. To determine whether PDCoV S1-coated BLPs could be immunized in the absence of adjuvants, plasma samples were obtained from mice injected with antigen. In conclusion, the PDCoV S1 domain generated from N. benthamiana excellently produced antibodies as a potential antigen and can be considered as an effective vaccine for passive immunization of piglets against PDCoV. Background: Rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) have malignant potential, and lymph node (LN) or distant metastases can occur; however, treatment of NETs 1–2 cm in size is controversial. Objective: This study aimed to identify predictive factors for LN metastasis and prognostic factors for recurrence of rectal NETs, especially tumors 1‒2 cm in size. Methods: Between October 2004 and November 2020, 453 patients underwent endoscopic or surgical treatment for rectal NETs in Seoul National University Hospital. The data on these patients were prospectively collected in our database and reviewed retrospectively. In cases of local excision, we evaluated LN metastasis with radiologic imaging, including computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging before treatment and during the follow-up periods. Results: LN metastasis was observed in 40 patients (8.8%). A higher rate of LN metastasis was observed in larger-sized tumors, advanced T stage, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), perineural invasion (PNI), and high tumor grade. In multivariable analysis, the significant risk factors for LN metastasis were tumor size (1 ≤ size < 2 cm: hazard ratio [HR] 64.07; size ≥2 cm: HR 102.37, p < 0.001) and tumor grade (G2: HR 3.63, p = 0.034; G3: HR 5.09, p = 0.044). In multivariable analysis for tumors 1–2 cm in size, the risk factor for LN metastasis was tumor grade (G2: HR 6.34, p = 0.013). Conclusions: Tumor grade and size are important predictive factors for LN metastasis.
