In this work, a (CdO)0.94:(In2O3)0.06 film was developed on a glass substrate using Q- switching pulse laser beam (Nd:YAG; wavelength 1064 nm). The quantitative elemental analysis of the (CdO)0.94:(In2O3)0.06 thin film was achieved using energy dispersive X- ray diffraction (EDX). The topological and morphological properties of the deposited thin film were investigated using atomic force microscope (AFM) and field emission scan electron microscopy (FESEM). The I-V characteristic and Hall effect of (CdO)0.94 :(In2O3)0.06 thin films were used to study the electrical properties. Interplay between structural disorder and magnetic interaction is investigated here for a multiferroic candidate material, CdCr2Se4. Ferromagnetic order in CdCr2Se4 sets in below TC~130K as a result of competition between the direct Cr-Cr spin coupling and the near neighbour Cr-Se-Cr exchange interactions. Hence, a small change in the crystal structure is expected to drastically affect its magnetic order. In this report, local lattice distortions within the overall cubic symmetry were brought about by replacing a small percentage of Se by isovalent S. Detailed crystal structure study using EXAFS and Raman Spectroscopy reflects the presence of local distortions within the overall cubic symmetry. Contrary to the expectation, magnetic properties of the substituted compositions do not show any drastic changes. Though, a signature of spin-phonon coupling is present across the magnetic ordering temperature. No structural phase transition occurs within the investigated temperature range of 80-300K. Coordination reactions of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, 2-bromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, 2,3,12,13-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin and metal-exchange reactions of their cadmium complexes with tin(II) chloride in dimethylformamide are described. Optimum conditions for the synthesis of Sn(IV) tetraphenylporphyrinates have been elaborated. In the synthesis of CdSe nanoplatelets, the selenium-to-selenide reduction pathway is unknown. We study solvent-free growth of CdSe nanoplatelets and identify bis(acyl) selenides as key reactive intermediates. Based on our findings, we prepare a series of bis(acyl) selenides that provide useful precursors with tailored reactivity for liquid-phase syntheses of nanoplatelets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes with N-{2-[(E)-(4-tert-butylphenyl)iminomethyl]phenyl}-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide were synthesized by chemical and electrochemical methods. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by the methods of IR, 1H NMR, electron absorption spectroscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy and by quantum chemical calculations. Electroluminescent devices with zinc and cadmium complexes were fabricated as emitter layers, which showed radiation brightness of 460 cd/m2 (15 V) with a maximum at 502 nm and 140 cd/m2 (15 V) with a maximum at 535 nm, respectively. A new luminescent metal–organic framework, {[Cd3(HL)2(H2O)3]·3H2O·2CH3CN}n (1) (H4L = 1-(3,5-dicarboxylatobenzyl)-3,5-pyrazole dicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized by solvothermal reaction and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry measurements and so on. 1 shows a new trinodal (4,4,6)-connected topology. Importantly, 1 displays intense luminescence in the solid state and high luminescent sensitivity and selectivity for Fe3+, CrO42− and Cr2O72− ions in aqueous solution, making it a potential probe for detecting these substances. The quenching mechanisms are also further discussed in detail. In addition, further research on the adsorption of dyes shows that 1 can selectively adsorb Congo red dye from other dye molecules. Zeolitic-imidazole framework ZIF-8 has attracted tremendous interests for the high-resolution kinetic separation of propylene/propane mixture due to its effective aperture size in between the sizes of propylene and propane molecules. It is of great interest to fine-tune the effective aperture size of ZIF-8 either to improve its propylene/propane separation performances or to extend its use to the separation of other gas mixtures. It has been shown that substituting Zn with other metal nodes (e.g. Co) is a potential means to fine-tune the effective aperture size of ZIF-8. Here, we attempt to introduce another metal center, Cd, into ZIF-8 in a facile and scalable manner. Phase-pure Cd-ZIF-8 was successfully synthesized in methanol using a conventional solvothermal method, although it showed a narrow synthesis window. The presence of an organic base (triethylamine, TEA) was found critical not only for the facile synthesis of phase-pure Cd-ZIF-8 but also for the suppression of its phase transformation. A battery of characterizations including single-crystal X-ray structure solutions confirmed that the effective aperture size of Cd-ZIF-8 is the largest among its iso-structures (Zn-ZIF-8 and Co-ZIF-8). Finally, for the first time, mixed-metal CdZn-ZIF-8 crystals with various Cd/Zn ratios were solvothermally synthesized, demonstrating a further opportunity for varying the effective aperture sizes of ZIF-8 and its iso-structures. One new open-framework two-dimensional layer, [Cd(NH 3 CH 2 COO)(SO 4 )], I, has been synthesized using amino acid as templating agent. Single crystal structural analysis shows that the compound crystallizes in monoclinic cell with non-centrosymmetric space group P 2 1 , a = 4.9513(1) Å, b = 7.9763(2) Å, c = 8.0967(2) Å, β = 105.917(1)° and V = 307.504(12) Å 3 . The compound has connectivity between the Cd-centers and the sulfate units forming a two-dimensional layer structure. Sulfate unit is coordinated to metal center with η 3 , μ 4 mode possessing a coordination free oxygen atom. The zwitterionic form of glycine molecule is present in the structure bridging with two metal centers through μ 2 -mode by carboxylate oxygens. The topological analysis reveals that the two-dimensional network is formed with a novel 4- and 6-connected binodal net of (3 2 ,4 2 ,5 2 )(3 4 ,4 4 ,5 4 ,6 3 ) topology. Although one end of the glycine molecule is free from coordination, the structure is highly stable up to 350 °C. Strong N-H⋯ O hydrogen bonding interactions play an important role in the stabilization and formation of three-dimensional supramolecular structure. The cyanosilylation of imines using the present compounds as heterogeneous catalyst indicates good catalytic behavior. The present study illustrates the usefulness of the amino acid for the structure building in less studied sulfate based framework materials as well as designing of new heterogeneous catalysts for the broad application. Abstract: As there are no well‐established modifiable risk factors for prostate cancer, further evidence is needed on possible factors such as occupation. Our study uses one of the largest Canadian worker cohorts to examine occupation, industry, and prostate cancer and to assess patterns of prostate cancer rates. The Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort (CanCHEC) was established by linking the 1991 Canadian Census Cohort to the Canadian Cancer Database (1969–2010), Canadian Mortality Database (1991–2011), and Tax Summary Files (1981–2011). A total of 37,695 prostate cancer cases were identified in men aged 25–74 based on age at diagnosis. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazards ratios and 95% confidence intervals. In men aged 25–74 years, elevated risks were observed in the following occupations: senior management (HR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.04–1.20); office and administration (HR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.11–1.27); finance services (HR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.04–1.14); education (HR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.00–1.11); agriculture and farm management (HR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.06–1.17); farm work (HR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.01–1.21); construction managers (HR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.01–1.14); firefighting (HR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.01–1.36); and police work (HR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.09–1.36). Decreased risks were observed across other construction and transportation occupations. Results by industry were consistent with occupation results. Associations were identified for white‐collar, agriculture, protective services, construction, and transportation occupations. A bifunctional cadmium complex with luminescence and gas storage, namely [Cd 3 (pcpta) 2 ·4H 2 O] n ·2H 2 O has been synthesized by hydrothermal reaction based on polyacid ligand, 2-(4-carboxyphenoxy)terephthalic acid (H 3 pcpta). The fluorescent test results show that the complex has excellent fluorescence properties, and can emit bright blue light under the irradiation of the ultraviolet lamp at 365 nm. Using a metal template approach a series of mono and dinuclear cadmium(II) were synthesized by Schiff base condensation of a pendant armed dialdehyde, i.e. 2-[3-(2-formylphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropoxy] benzaldehyde (PL) with selection of different diamines, diethylenetriamine, dipropylenetriamine, 1,2-diaminopropane and 1,2-diaminoethane. Depending on the nature of the diaminoalkane spacers and metal ion, 1:1 (metal:ligand) macrocyclic (L1OH and L2OH) or 2:1 (metal:ligand) acylic (L3O − and L4O − ) complexes of cadmium(II) were obtained. With the longer spacers diethylenetriamine and dipropylenetriamine ring closure around the cadmium ion was observed and [1+1] macrocyclic Schiff base ligands (L1OH and L2OH) were formed. With the shorter spacers 1,2-diaminopropane and 1,2-diaminoethane ring closure was not observed. Interestingly, the dialdehyde PL reacted with two molecules of diamine, forming intermediate product acyclic Schiff base [1+2] ligands (L3O − and L4O − ) that are coordinated to two cadmium ions to form dinuclear complexes. Crystal structures indicated that the complex [CdL1(NO 3 )]. NO 3 contains a hexadentate macrocyclic ligand and a bidentate NO 3 − anion with an eight-coordinated cadmium in distorted dodecahedron geometry. The molecular structures of the complexes [Cd 2 (L3O)(NO 3 ) 3 (H 2 O)] and [Cd 2 (L4O)(NO 3 ) 3 ], on the other hand, exhibit of two seven-coordinated cadmium centers, which are bridged by the deprotonated hydroxyl group. Four new coordination polymers [Cd 2 (CHDC) 2 (APYZ)(H 2 O) 2 ](H 2 O) ( 1 ), [Cd(HCHDC) 2 (APYZ) (H 2 O)] ( 2 ), [Cd 2 (CHDC) 2 (PYZ)(H 2 O) 2 ](H 2 O) ( 3 ), and [Cd(HCHDC) 2 (PYZ)(H 2 O)] ( 4 ) (H 2 CHDC = 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, APYZ = 2-aminopyrazine, PYZ = pyrazine) have been synthesized under the hydrothermal conditions by changing the pH regulator and the N-containing ligands. The pH regulator impacted on the degree of deprotonation of the 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid ligand and resulted in the formation of the two pairs of different networks. Polymers 1 and 3 crystallize in monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / c , exhibit two dimensional 6 3 net, which further formed three-dimensional supramolecular structure by the C H⋯O hydrogen bond interactions. While polymers 2 and 4 possess one dimensional chain structures and further link into two dimensional layered supramolecular structures by intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. From all three conformers of H 2 CHDC, e , a - cis is consistently present in the Cd coordination polymers. Furthermore, photoluminescence properties of four polymers are also investigated, the luminescent intensity of polymer 1 (or 2 ) with amino group in pyrazine is dramatically stronger than that of the similar structure of polymer 3 (or 4 ) without amino group in pyrazine, the results shown that the presence of the amino group from 2-aminopyrazine play a key role in increasing the luminescence properties. A new coordination polymer, [Cd2(µ3-sip)2(etim)6Cd(etim)2]n (1) (sip = 5-sulfoisophtalate, etim = 2-ethylimidazole) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral (FT-IR and photoluminescence) and thermal analysis. The structure of polynuclear complex 1 has been determined by the X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1 shows intense photoluminesent emission bands at 415 nm upon excitation at 319 nm. The emission of complex may be attributed to ligand centered luminescence emission. X-ray diffraction analysis of complex 1 reveals that it has a 1D polynuclear zig-zag chain. Reaction of Cd(NCS)2 and Zn(NCS)2 with 3-ethylpyridine leads to the formation of compounds of compositions M(NCS)2(3-ethylpyridine)4 (M=Cd, 1-Cd; Zn, 1-Zn) and M(NCS)2(3-ethylpyridine)2 (M=Cd, 2-Cd; Zn, 2-Zn). 1-Cd and 1-Zn are isotypic and form discrete complexes in which the metal cations are octahedrally coordinated by two trans-coordinating N-bonded thiocyanate anions and four 3-ethylpyridine co-ligands. In 2-Cd the cations are also octahedrally coordinated but linked into chains by pairs of μ-1,3-bridging anionic ligands. 2-Zn is built up of discrete complexes, in which the Zn cation is tetrahedrally coordinated by two N-bonded thiocyanate anions and two 3-ethylpyridine co-ligands. Compounds 1-Cd, 2-Cd and 2-Zn can be prepared in a pure state, whereas 1-Zn is unstable and transforms on storage into 2-Zn. If 1-Cd and 1-Zn are heated, a transformation into 2-Cd, respectively 2-Zn is observed. Luminescence measurements reveal that 1-Cd, 2-Cd and 2-Zn emit light in the blue spectral range with maxima at, respectively, 21724, 21654 and 22055 cm−1, assigned to ligand-based luminescence. Cadmium, an extremely toxic heavy metal, is of a major public health concern and its efficient removal from the environment is a real challenge. This work aims for a deep understanding of stable cadmium(II) chelation with a tridentate ligand to form complex salts being stabilized by cation–anion hydrogen bonding non-covalent interactions in addition to electrostatic interactions. Three new Cd(II) complexes, [Cd(H 2 O) 6 ]( pic ) 2 ·2H 2 O 1 , [Cd(N- hyden ) 2 ]( pic ) 2 2 , [Cd(N- hyden ) 2 ]( pnb ) 2 3 , (where N- hyden  = N-(hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine, H pic  = picric acid and H pnb  = p-nitrobenzoic acid) using the appropriate acids in the absence and presence of the tridentate N- hyden ligand have been synthesized and fully characterized by elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analyses and spectroscopic (FT-IR, NMR) techniques. The exact ionic structures of complexes 1 – 3 have been unambiguously determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. They comprise octahedrally surrounded cationic Cd(II) centers, [Cd(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ in 1 and [Cd(N- hyden ) 2 ] 2+ in 2 and 3 , together with the counter anions pic / pnb , which are stabilized by a mutual interplay of various hydrogen bonding interactions. In this work, we report a facile and cost-effective two-step hydrothermal method to fabricate the unique hierarchical CdMn 2 O 4 @CdMn 2 O 4 structures on Ni foam for the first time. The CdMn 2 O 4 diamond structures are fully covered on mesoporous CdMn 2 O 4 nanoparticles. Compared with the bare CdMn 2 O 4 nanoparticles, the composite CdMn 2 O 4 @CdMn 2 O 4 electrode exhibits higher pseudocapacitive behaviors in 2 M KOH, which delivers a greatly enhanced specific capacitance of 3885 F g −1 at a current density of 1.5 A g −1 . In addition, composite CdMn 2 O 4 @CdMn 2 O 4 electrode shows superior cycling stability, retaining 99.8% of the initial capacitance after 2000 cycles at a current density of 5 A g −1 . Crystal structure of orthorhombic γ-CdC 2 O 4 (sp.gr. Pmna , a = 7.3217(1), b = 6.0231(1), c = 9.2545(2) Å, V = 408.12(1) Å 3 , Z = 8, D x = 3.262 Μg·m −3 ) was solved from the powder diffraction pattern. Each metal atom in the structure is co-ordinated by seven oxygen atoms which belong to five oxalate-ions. Crystal packing containing the noticeable cavities in the [101] and [001] directions is not close and essentially differs from the known disordered α- and ordered β-modifications of transition metal oxalates. This modification seems to be meta-stable. It was found that spontaneous γ→β phase transition takes place for the γ-CdC 2 O 4 aged during 6 month in air. Two cadmium(II) coordination compounds [Cd(NCO) 2 (tppz)] ( 1 ) and [Cd 2 (μ 1,1 -NCO) 2 (μ 1,3 -NCO) 2 (μ-tppz)] n ( 2 ) have been successfully synthesized in the reaction of CdCl 2 or Cd(NO 3 ) 2 with a versatile polydentate ligand (2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine - tppz ) and pseudohalide NCO – ions. The resulted compounds were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by infrared spectra, powder X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. The photoluminescence behaviour was investigated in solid state for 1 and 2 and then compared to the free organic ligand. The luminescent properties of tppz were investigated for two polymorphs (monoclinic P2 1 / n and tetragonal I4 1 / a ). Moreover, the Hirshfeld surface analysis has been used to determine the effect of intermolecular interactions on emission properties of these polymorphs. Vanadates CdVO and CdVO have been prepared from CdO и VO by three-phase synthesis with subsequent burning at 823-1073 K and 823-853 K, respectively. The molar heat capacity of these oxide compounds has been measured by differential scanning calorimetry. The enthalpy change, the entropy change, and the reduced Gibbs energy are calculated using the experimental dependences C = f( T). A specialized heterojunction of p -ZnTe:N/CdTe:Mg/n-CdTe:I/GaAs for varicap and high response signal diode applications was epitaxially grown by using molecular beam epitaxy. Frequency dependence of the capacitance-voltage, conductance-voltage and series -resistance characteristics in the frequency spectrum from 10 kHz to 10 MHz at ambient temperature was investigated. An increase in the capacitance is observed especially at lower frequency range that can be attributed to the predominant effect of interface states. A negative capacitance is observed and is explained on the basis of the loss of interface charges or interface states localized between metal and semiconductor due to impact ionization process. The frequency and voltage dependencies of the series resistance were investigated and characteristic peaks were observed for the voltage dependence of series resistance under low-frequency range. Some important parameters such as barrier height, carrier concentration, cut off voltage were also estimated and discussed. The electrical characteristics of p -ZnTe:N/CdTe:Mg/n-CdTe:I/GaAs show a good candidacy for electronic and optoelectronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Novel asymmetric (N 4 ) Schiff bases (L n , n = 1–3) and their nanosized cadmium complexes derived of 4,4'-(pentylazanediyl) dibenzaldehyde and aminobenzaldehyde are synthesized by sonochemical method and characterized based on physicochemical analysis including 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, SEM, TGA, Mass, FT-IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, magnetic moment and molar conductance measurements. According to the analytic results of the NMR, UV–Vis and magnetic moment studies, it is found that the geometrical structures of these complexes [Cd II 2 L n Cl 4 ], (L = C 45 H 40 N 5 X, X = CH 3 , Cl, OH) are square planer. The synthesized complexes were so effective as nanocatalyst on the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols. The oxidation reactions were carried out in ethyl-methyl-imidazolium ionic liquid in presence of NaOCl. In addition Cd NPs were synthesized through the thermal decomposition of mentioned complexes and characterized by using FT-IR, SEM, TEM, EDX and XRD methods, which indicated close accordance to the standard pattern of CdO nanoparticles and an acceptable size at the nanorange (22–27 nm). Furthermore geometrical optimization of the Cd 2 L n Cl 4 calculated using DFT/B3LYP with LanL2DZ/6-311+G (d,p) level. The electronic parameter including HOMO–LUMO orbitals, bond gap, chemical hardness–softness, electronegativity, electrophilicity, NMR chemical shifts and IR frequencies were calculated. New [ N , N , N ]-tridentate ligand containing 2-aminomethylpyridyl group at the enamino-pyrrolo[2,3- b ]quinoxalin-2-one system ( 2 ) was synthesized and characterized. The reaction of ligand with zinc acetate and zinc acetylacetonate resulted in five-coordinated zinc complexes: coordination polymer ( E )- 2 -Zn(µ 2 -η 1 :η 1 -OAc) and ( E )- 2- ZnPyacac. Cadmium acetate and also acetylacetonate with the ligand both formed six-coordinated complexes with binding mode 2:1. The new complexes were characterized by NMR, elemental analysis, UV–Vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy. X-ray structural analysis of the single crystals of [( E )- 2 ] 2 Cd, ( E )- 2 -Zn(µ 2 -η 1 :η 1 -OAc), and ( E )- 2- ZnPyacac showed the orientation of nitrogen and oxygen donor groups, the distortion of the fluorophore conformations, CH-π and π-π non-covalent interactions and formation of hydrogen bonds were responsible for the fluorescence enhancement in the solid state. The effect of an alkyl linker (CH 2 ) n , n = 0, 1 or 2 length, between the enamine-pyrrolo[2,3- b ]quinoxaline fluorophore and an ionophore pyridyl group, on the coordination geometry of fluorescent zinc and cadmium complexes and on the fluorescence quantum yields was discussed. The increase of zinc coordination numbers from 4 to 6 is accompanied by a substantial decrease of the fluorescence quantum yield from 0.109 to 0.006 for the complexes in acetonitrile as well as the decrease of dipole moments in ground state from 9.87 D to 6.04 D. Comparing the local potential energy density to charge density ratio, G(r)/ρ(r), calculated using a density functional theory (DFT), indicated that the zinc complexes were more stable when the coordination number of the zinc ion is lower than 6. Metal complexes of general formula, [M(NNS) 2 ] (M = Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II); NNS′ = S-2-methylbenzyl-β-N-(di-2-pyridyl)methylenedithiocarbazate ( 1 ), NNS″ = S-3-methylbenzyl-β-N-(di-2-pyridyl)methylenedithiocarbazate ( 2 ) and NNS‴ = S-4-methylbenzyl-β-N-(di-2-pyridyl)methylenedithiocarbazate ( 3 ) have been synthesized by reacting the respective metal acetates with the Schiff bases in an ethanol/acetonitrile mixture. They have been characterised by various physico-chemical techniques. Magnetic and spectral evidence indicate the formation of six-coordinate complexes in which the Schiff base coordinates as a uninegatively charged tridentate NNS ligand. The crystal structures of [Ni(NNS′) 2 ] ( 5 ), [Ni(NNS‴) 2 ] ( 13 ) and [Cd(NNS′) 2 ] ( 7 ) were solved via single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis. All three complexes possess a distorted octahedral geometry where two Schiff bases are coordinated to the central metal ion via the pyridine nitrogen-atom, the azomethine-nitrogen atom and the thiolate-sulphur atom; like donor atoms in the N 4 S 2 donor set are mutually trans . The complexes have been assayed against selected pathogens and cancer cell lines. The complexes were inactive against all the fungal strains tested, but were mildly active against the bacterial strains tested, especially against Bacillus subtilis . Anti-microbial activity generally improved upon complexation with the transition metal ions. The Schiff bases and their transition metal complexes were mostly inactive against the examined cancer cell lines. The Schiff bases 1 – 3 were inactive against the MCF-7 (Human Breast cancer cells with positive estrogen receptor) and the MDA-MB-231 (Human Breast cancer cells with negative estrogen receptor) cell lines. Only 9 was active against MCF-7 whereas 10 and 13 were active against the MDA-MB-231 cell line. Cytotoxic activity was observed to be enhanced upon complexation particularly for the Ni(II) complexes. Three photoluminescent complexes containing either ZnII or CdII have been synthesized and their structures determined. Bis[4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole-κ2 N1, N5]bis(dicyanamido-κ N1)zinc(II), [Zn(C12H10N6)2(C2N3)2], (I), bis[4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole-κ2 N1, N5]bis(dicyanamido-κ N1)cadmium(II), [Cd(C12H10N6)2(C2N3)2], (II), and bis[4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole-κ2 N1, N5]bis(tricyanomethanido-κ N1)cadmium(II), [Cd(C12H10N6)2(C4N3)2], (III), all crystallize in the space group P, with the metal centres lying on centres of inversion, but neither analogues (I) and (II) nor CdII complexes (II) and (III) are isomorphous. A combination of N-H...N and C-H...N hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions generates three-dimensional framework structures in (I) and (II), and a sheet structure in (III). The photoluminescence spectra of (I)-(III) indicate that the energies of the π-π* transitions in the coordinated triazole ligand are modified by minor changes of the ligand geometry associated with coordination to the metal centres. The CdII three-dimensional coordination poly[[[μ4-1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)but-2-ene]bis(μ3-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato)dicadmium(II)] dihydrate], {[Cd2(C9H4O6)2(C8H10N6)]·2H2O} n, (I), has been synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O, benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (1,3,5-H3BTC) and 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)but-2-ene (1,4-btbe). The IR spectrum suggests the presence of protonated carboxylic acid, deprotonated carboxylate and triazolyl groups. The purity of the bulk sample was confirmed by elemental analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the CdII ions adopt a five-coordinated distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry, coordinated by three O atoms from three different 1,3,5-HBTC2− ligands and two N atoms from two different 1,4-btbe ligands; the latter are situated on centres of inversion. The CdII centres are bridged by 1,3,5-HBTC2− and 1,4-btbe ligands into an overall three-dimensional framework. When the CdII centres and the tetradentate 1,4-btbe ligands are regarded as nodes, the three-dimensional topology can be simplified as a binodal 4,6-connected network. 3-(Pyridin-4-yl)acetylacetone (HacacPy) acts as a pyridine-type ligand towards CdII and HgII halides. With CdBr2, the one-dimensional polymer [Cd(μ-Br)2(HacacPy)Cd(μ-Br)2(HacacPy)2]∞ is obtained in which five- and six-coordinated CdII cations alternate in the chain direction. Reaction of HacacPy with HgBr2 results in [Hg(μ-Br)Br(HacacPy)]∞, a polymer in which each HgII centre is tetracoordinated. In both compounds, each metal(II) cation is N-coordinated by at least one HacacPy ligand. Equimolar reaction between these CdII and HgII derivatives, either conducted in ethanol as solvent or via grinding in the solid state, leads to ligand redistribution and the formation of the well-ordered bimetallic polymer catena-poly[[bromidomercury(II)]-μ-bromido-[aquabis[4-hydroxy-3-(pyridin-4-yl)pent-3-en-2-one]cadmium(II)]-di-μ-bromido], [CdHgBr4(C10H11NO2)2(H2O)] n or [{HgBr}(μ-Br){(HacacPy)2Cd(H2O)}(μ-Br)2]∞. HgII and CdII cations alternate in the [100] direction. The HacacPy ligands do not bind to the HgII cations, which are tetracoordinated by three bridging and one terminal bromide ligand. The CdII centres adopt an only slightly distorted octahedral coordination. Three bromide ligands link them in a (2 + 1) pattern to neighbouring HgII atoms; two HacacPy ligands in a cis configuration, acting as N-atom donors, and a terminal aqua ligand complete the coordination sphere. In the present study, CdTe, CdSe, and CdTe/CdSe core/shell quantum dots (QDs) have been synthesized with 1-octadecane from colloidal method. The effect of reaction temperature on the properties of CdTe QDs was investigated. The CdTe/CdSe core/shell QDs were synthesized by coating number layers of CdSe onto CdTe core at 190 °C. The resultant QDs were characterized with a range of characterization techniques to study the optical, structural, compositional and morphological properties. A systematic red shift was observed in the optical spectra's of CdTe QDs synthesized for reaction temperatures in the range 130–250 °C. The size of CdTe QDs was estimated in the range 2.5–4 nm from the position of absorption peak. The effect of reaction temperature on the interplanar distance ‘d’, crystallite size and elemental composition of the CdTe QDs is studied. The emission spectra of CdTe/CdSe core/shell QDs attributed at higher wavelength as compared to pristine CdTe demonstrates the indirect excitation in CdTe core. The XRD pattern revealed the cubic crystal structure of CdTe and CdSe QDs with reflections (111), (220) and (311). The synthesis of monodispersed spherical QDs with narrow size distribution are confirmed by TEM images. Three diffused ring observed in SAD patterns of CdTe, CdSe and CdTe/CdSe core/shell are corresponds to (111), (220) and (311) reflection of cubic crystal structure. The lattice spacing obtained by SAD patterns and HRTEM images are in good agreement with standard ‘d’ spacing. The compositional analysis studied by EDS revealed the stoichiometric growth of QDs. The effect of shells of various layers on the Raman spectra of CdTe/CdSe core/shell QDs is studied. The role of cationic and neutral two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers (CPs) in the efficient capture of inorganic pollutants (chromate and dichromate) and toxic dyes has been explored. Two cationic CPs with Ag(I) salts of BF4- and ClO4- anions and one neutral CP with Cd(NO3)2 of bis(pyridylcarboxamide) ligands have been structurally characterized, and it was found that all of them have isostructural 2D CPs. The sorption of chromate/dichromate by CPs via anion exchange mechanism was shown to depend not only on the nature of the network but also on the nature of the anion present in the as-synthesized host. Among three CPs, the BF4- containing Ag(I) CP exhibited a better ability of sorbing chromate and dichromate from very dilute solution of sorbates (10-4 M). On the other hand, neutral Cd(II) CP containing NO3- ion were found to have a better ability to sorb chromate/dichromate from somewhat concentrated (10-1 M) solutions. Further, BF4- and NO3- containing CPs exhibit selective sorption of chromate from the solution containing mixture of CrO42-, NO3-, SO42-, and BF4- in equimolar concentrations. The structure of chromate sorbed material was determined with the help of the as-synthesized Cd(II) CP of chromate. Further, Ag(I) CP containing BF4- ion and Cd(II) CP containing NO3- ion have shown the ability for selective dye sorption and luminescence based detection of dichromate ions, respectively. Reactions of Mn(II) and Cd(II) salts with 5-(4-(1 H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)-1 H-tetrazole (HL) under hydrothermal conditions result in complexes [Mn(L)(HO)] · 2HO ( I) and [Cd(L)(HO)] ( II), which have been characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions (CIF files CCDC nos. 943861 ( I), 943862 ( II)), IR spectroscopy, element and thermogravimetric analyses. Two complexes exhibit structural diversity dependent on different metal salts. Complex I shows discrete mononuclear structure, which can be further linked to build a 3D supramolecular framework through hydrogen bonding interactions. Complex II displays 1D zigzag-chain structure, and an extended 3D framework can be formed by hydrogen bonding. Interestingly, tetranuclear water clusters were generated in I, which can be linked by Mn ions to show 1D metal-bridged water cluster-chain structure. The present work provides an example that metal centers impact on coordination modes of ligand and consequent structural variation of resulted complexes. Ionic liquids (ILs) coated hierarchically hollow porous spherical Ni-loaded CdFe 2 O 4 (ILs@HPS-Ni/CdFe 2 O 4 ) hybrid was designed as an enhanced sensing material for ultra-sensitive electrochemical simultaneous determination of endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol AP (BPAP). The electrocatalytic and electroanalytical properties of BPS and BPAP on the modified electrode were investigated by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). After loading Ni, three-dimensional (3D) HPS-Ni/CdFe 2 O 4 showed the higher electrocatalytic performance for the oxidation of BPS and BPAP. By the synergistic effect of [BMIM][PF 6 ] ILs, the electrochemical sensor film (ILs@HPS-Ni/CdFe 2 O 4 ) not only further provided a greater electrochemically active surface area and facilitated electron transfer, but also exhibited a good anti-fouling ability. The simultaneous determination of BPS and BPAP was successfully carried out in the phosphate buffer solution (PBS) of pH 6.0, and the detection limits (S/N = 3) for BPS and BPAP were 5.37 × 10 −9 mol L −1 and 4.55 × 10 −9 mol L −1 , respectively. The sensor showed high sensitivity, well reproducibility and anti-jamming ability, and this study provided a potential candidate for electrochemical detection of EDCs individually or simultaneously in the environmental samples. CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 polycrystalline material has been synthesized by melt oscillation method. Vertical Bridgman method was used to grow a good quality CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 single crystal. The crystalline phase and growth orientation were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction pattern and unit cell parameters were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structural uniformity of CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 was studied using Raman scattering spectroscopy at room temperature. The stoichiometric composition variation along the CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 was measured using energy dispersive spectrometry. The transmission spectra of CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 single crystal gave 42% transmission in the NIR region. Thermal property of CdIn 2 S 2 Se 2 has been studied using differential thermal analysis. Thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity were also measured. Electrical property was measured using Hall Effect measurement and it confirms the n-type semiconducting nature. A new kind of hollow cadmium–organic coordination nanoparticle (CdOP) was prepared by connecting Cd2+ with 2-aminoterephthalic acid which exhibited strong electrochemical redox activity at −0.71 V. The obtained nanoparticles were used to construct a redox substrate for label-free voltammetric immunoassay of prostate specific antigen (PSA) by drop-coating CdOPs onto the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Then, the CdOP film was covered with a mixture of Nafion and graphene oxide (GO) due to their good film-forming properties and excellent biocompatibility. Based on the electrostatic interaction between the membrane and anti-PSA, a label-free voltammetric immunosensor was fabricated simply by immobilizing anti-PSA on the modified GCE. The determination linear range for PSA was from 0.01 ng mL−1 to 100 ng mL−1 and a detection limit of 0.97 pg mL−1 (S/N = 3) was achieved. Importantly, the results of human blood serum samples by this biosensor were in good agreement with the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay results, indicating that the biosensor possessed high reliability for protein determination. Solvothermal reaction of Cd2+ cations with a silicon-centered carboxylic acid (H6L) afforded a novel metal–organic framework, namely, [Cd3L(H2O)5]·DMA·H2O (1). It is built from three {CdO6} clusters and organosilicone linkers to form a 3D porous framework. The steric organosilicone ligand is among the never documented examples. Interestingly, 1 exhibited spontaneous formations of microtubular crystals, the phenomenon of which is rarely reported among the metal–organic coordination assemblies. C3N4/CdS–CdWO4 core–shell heterostructure photocatalysts were prepared via a facile solvent volatilization method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis demonstrated that an interfacial structure was present between the C3N4 shell and the CdS–CdWO4 core, and the specific function of the modification of C3N4 was investigated by room-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy and transient photocurrent measurement. The heterostructure photocatalysts displayed enhanced photocatalytic activity in the degradation of RhB dye than that of the single components and binary composites. Among the as-prepared samples, the best photocatalytic performance was achieved by 10 wt% C3N4/CdS–CdWO4, which was about 5.7 and 14.6 times that of CdS–CdWO4 and C3N4, respectively, under UV-visible light irradiation. Owing to the formation of a C3N4/CdS–CdWO4 ternary heterostructure, its efficient pollutant-removing ability and stability can be attributed to the improved separation of photogenerated carriers and transfer efficiency for the intensive built-in electric field intensity. The preparation of the ferrocene-based reagents FcSSiMe3 ( 1) and fc(SSiMe3)2 ( 2) [Fc = (η5-C5H5)Fe(η5-C5H4)-; fc = Fe(η5-C5H4)2-] is reported together with their use in the formation of the tetrahedral zinc complexes [( N, N′-tmeda)Zn(SFc)2] ( 3a) and [( N, N′-tmeda)Zn(S2fc)] ( 4a), respectively (tmeda = tetramethylethylenediamine). N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of Cd and Hg triflates (OTf) were prepared and their attempted conversion into rare cadmium and mercury hydrides was explored. In contrast to zinc, which forms stable [ZnH]+ complexes with NHCs, the heavier Cd and Hg congeners could not be formed; the increased instability of Cd-H and Hg-H units was rationalized with the aid of computations. It was also discovered that the dimeric adduct [IPr⋅Cd(μ-OTf)2]2 (IPr=[(HCNDipp)2C:]; Dipp=2,6- iPr2C6H3) is an active precatalyst for the hydrosilylation and hydroborylation of hindered aldehydes and ketones. Much attention has been paid by chemists to the construction of supramolecular coordination compounds based on the multifunctional ligand 5-sulfosalicylic acid (H3SSA) due to the structural and biological interest of these compounds. However, no coordination compounds have been reported for the multifunctional amino-substituted sulfobenzoate ligand 2-amino-5-sulfobenzoic acid (H2asba). We expected that H2asba could be a suitable building block for the assembly of supramolecular networks due to its interesting structural characteristics. The reaction of cadmium(II) nitrate with H2asba in the presence of the auxiliary flexible dipyridylamide ligand N, N′-bis[(pyridin-4-yl)methyl]oxamide (4bpme) under ambient conditions formed a new mixed-ligand coordination compound, namely bis(3-amino-4-carboxybenzenesulfonato-κ O1)diaquabis{ N, N′-bis[(pyridin-4-yl)methyl]oxamide-κ N}cadmium(II)- N, N′-bis[(pyridin-4-yl)methyl]oxamide-water (1/1/4), [Cd(C7H6NO5S)2(C14H14N4O2)2(H2O)2]·C14H14N4O2·4H2O, (1), which was characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopic analyses in the solid state. The central CdII atom in (1) occupies a special position on a centre of inversion and exhibits a slightly distorted octahedral geometry, being coordinated by two N atoms from two monodentate 4bpme ligands, four O atoms from two monodentate 4-amino-3-carboxybenzenesulfonate (Hasba−) ligands and two coordinated water molecules. Interestingly, complex (1) further extends into a threefold polycatenated 0D→2D (0D is zero-dimensional and 2D is two-dimensional) interpenetrated supramolecular two-dimensional (4,4) layer through intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The interlayer hydrogen bonding further links adjacent threefold polycatenated two-dimensional layers into a three-dimensional network. The optical properties of complex (1) indicate that it may be used as a potential indirect band gap semiconductor material. Complex (1) exhibits an irreversible dehydration-rehydration behaviour. A series of three-dimensional fluorescent heterometallic MOFs based on rod- and cluster-like building blocks were readily prepared under solvothermal conditions. Among them, compounds 1–4 were constructed from rod-like building blocks {Cd–O–M}n (M = Na, K, Na–K, and Mg) and BDC2− ligands, featuring right-hand and left-hand channels with a cap topology. The framework charges of 1–4 can be tuned from negative to neutral via a strategy of changing the secondary metal centre (Na+, Na+–K+, K+ and Mg2+). It is worth noting that the rod-like building block of compound 2 contained three types of metal ion centres (Cd2+, Na+ and K+). Different from compounds 1–4, the topology of 5 changed from a cap net to a 610 net in the presence of Ca2+ as a secondary metal centre. Interestingly, the anionic framework of 5 features two types of linear trinuclear clusters as the building blocks, i.e. {Cd2CaO17} and {Cd2CaO16}, which are relatively rare in known heterometallic open frameworks. Moreover, fluorescent compound 5 with a microporous structure displayed sensing properties towards some nitro-containing compounds, suggesting its potential application as a fluorescent sensor for the sensitive detection of explosives. Flower-like CdS/CdV 2 O 6 composite has been used in the present work for the visible-light (λ ≥ 420 nm) photoconversion of CO 2 into CH 4 . CdV 2 O 6 has been synthesized by simple hydrothermal method. Limited chemical conversion route (LCCR) has been used for the synthesis of novel efficient visible light driven CdS/CdV 2 O 6 composite. Several characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV/visible spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) have been used to characterize the as synthesized photocatalysts. XRD confirms the formation of monoclinic structure of CdV 2 O 6 and orthorhombic phase of CdS in the nanocomposite. HRTEM and SEM results reveal rod-like morphology of CdV 2 O 6 while CdS/CdV 2 O 6 is in the form of well-shaped bunches of flower-like structures. XPS is used to determine the alignment of energy levels against the standard hydrogen electrode (SHE). The as-synthesized flower-like composites have then been employed as efficient photocatalysts for visible-light photoconversion of CO 2 into CH 4 . The CdS/CdV 2 O 6 composite results in visibly higher yield of methane than that of single semiconductors that might be attributed to the suppressed recombination of the photogenerated charge carriers. Synthesis, characterization and Cd(II) adsorption studies of a novel biodegradable graft copolymer based on partially hydrolysed polymethylacrylate (PMA) grafted amylopectin was reported, which was prepared by first grafting of PMA chains onto the amylopectin backbone followed by partial alkaline hydrolysis. The hydrolysed graft copolymer (PHAP) was characterized by measuring saponification equivalent (SE), FTIR, 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR spectroscopy and thermal analysis (TG/DTG). The graft copolymer was biodegradable. Various operating variables affecting the metal sorption such as, amount of adsorbent, solution pH, contact time, temperature and Cd(II) solution concentration were studied which showed that the maximum adsorption of Cd(II) was found at pH 5.5, temperature 90 °C, time 120 min, polymer dose, 0.02 g/L and initial Cd(II) concentration, 50 mg/L. The adsorption data were well described by the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherm model. Metal complexation studies were carried out experimentally using UV–visible, FTIR spectroscopy and theoretically using Density Functional Theory by Gaussian 09 and Gauss view 5.0 programmes which confirms a square planer geometry involving Cd(II) and COO − groups. Two metal complexes [Cd(L) 2 ]·0.275H 2 O( 1 ) and [In(L) 2 ]NO 3 ( 2 ) (HL = 2-benzoylpyridine N (4)-cyclohexylthiosemicarbazone) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, a number of spectroscopic methods (IR, UV-vis, NMR), mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. The Schiff’s base ligand forms hexacoordinated complexes having octahedral geometry for Cd(II) and In(III) complexes, respectively. The synthesized compounds were tested for antiproliferative activity and showed the ability to kill HepG2 cells (human hepato cellular carcinoma) significantly, especially 2 with IC 50 = 2.02 ± 0.14 μM. Of particular note is the fact that complex 1 has ca 12-fold lower toxicity in the normal hepatocyte QSG7701 cells than in the hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells. In addition, complex 2 also exhibited excellent luminescent property. Upon the addition of 1 equiv of In 3+ ion, 200-fold fluorescence enhancement of HL at λ em = 504 nm has been observed. Moreover, the fluorescent color change (from transparent to light-green) could be observed by naked eyes under the light of 365 nm. By changing the solvent, three cadmium(II) coordination polymers (CPs), [Cd(NH2-BDC)(DMA)(H2O)]n(1), {[Cd(NH2-BDC)2(DMF)2]·H2O}n(2) and {[(Me2NH2)2Cd2(NH2-BDC)3(H2O)]·DMF·8H2O}n(3), have been synthesized based on the V-shaped linker 5-aminoisophthalic acid and Cd(NO3)2·4H2O under the same reaction temperature (140 °C) (NH2-BDC = 5-aminoisophthalate, DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). Compound1features a 1-D ladder-like infinite chain. Compound2is a 2-D (4,4) net when the dinuclear [Cd2(COO)4O4] is regarded as a quadruply-connected node. Compound3shows a 2-D hamburger-like structure. Luminescent properties of1–3were detected at room temperature under the same excitation and emission wavelengths of 200–600 nm with the same interval of 5 nm. Solubility in the systems CdX-HO-Solv (X = Br, I; Solv = dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethyl acetamide, N,N-dimethyl formamide, and 1,4-dioxane) at 25°C was measured by the isothermal saturation method. A relation between the shape of the solubility isotherm and the structure of the binary solvent depending on its composition was found. The synthesis and structural characterization of six new d 10 Cd(II) and Zn(II) thiocyanato complexes with pyridine- N -oxide compounds: the polymeric catena -[Cd(μ 2 -2-picoline- N -oxide)(μ N,S -NCS) 2 ] ( 1 ), catena -[Cd(μ 2 -3-picoline- N -oxide)(μ N,S -NCS) 2 ] ( 2 ), catena -[Cd(4-nitropyridine- N -oxide) 2 (μ N,S -NCS) 2 ] ( 3 ), the dinuclear [Cd(4-cyanopyridine- N -oxide) 2 (μ N,S -NCS)(NCS)(H 2 O)] 2 ( 4 ) and the mononuclear complexes [Zn(2-picoline- N -oxide) 2 (NCS) 2 (H 2 O)] ( 5 ) and [Zn(4-cyanopyridine- N -oxide) 2 (NCS) 2 (H 2 O)] ( 6 ) are reported. Single crystal X-ray crystallography revealed the 2D polymeric nature in complexes 1 and 2 , the 1D chain in 3 and the dimeric structure in complex 4 with the doubly-bridged Cd(μ N,S -NCS) 2 Cd moiety. Five-coordinate monomeric Zn(II) complexes were obtained in 5 and 6 , where the thiocyanto ligands are acting as monodentate N-bonded. We have developed a novel naphthalimide-based Cd2+ fluorescent probe ( 1), featuring almost no background response, high sensitivity and selectivity toward Cd2+ through its high association constant [ K=(2.10±0.423)×106], and a practical working pH range. Membrane-permeability was conferred on 1 by replacing the imide and amide substituents with n-butyl groups, and hence the derivative ( 4) has found practical utility on fluorescent imaging of Cd2+ in HeLa cells. Comparison of fluorescent properties between various compounds derived from 1 has demonstrated that the carbamoylmethyl groups in 1 function not only as Cd2+ chelators but also as promoters for photoinduced electron transfer (PET) by lowering the basicity of the two tertiary amino groups. Three new coordination polymers [Zn(tib)(BPDS)] ( 1 ), [Zn(tib) (BPDS) (H 2 O)]·6H 2 O ( 2 ) and [Zn 2 (tib) (TPDC-4CH 3 ) 2 ]·DMF·10H 2 O ( 3 ) (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide), and a previously reported one [Cd(tib) 2 ]·2NO 3 ·4DMF ( 4 ) were synthesized by hydro/solvothermal reactions of corresponding metal salt with mixed organic ligands of 1, 3, 5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) and 4, 4'-biphenyldisulfonic acid (H 2 BPDS)/2′, 3′, 5′, 6′-tetramethylterphenyl-4, 4″-dicarboxylic acid (H 2 TPDC-4CH 3 ). The complexes were characterized by elemental, thermogravimetric analyses, IR, single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. 1 and 2 are 2D networks with {4·8 2 } and {6 3 } topologies, which are further assembled into 3D architectures through hydrogen bonding interactions. In 3 , both tib and TPDC-4CH 3 2− act as bidentate bridging ligands and link Zn(II) centers to form a 3-fold interpenetrating 3D framework, while 4 is a (3, 6)-connected binodal 3D net with the Schläfli symbol of {4·6 2 } 2 {4 2 ·6 10 ·8 3 }. Two dimensional metal organic frameworks (MOFs) [Cd(5-BrIP)(TIB)]n (1) and [Ni2(5-BrIP)2(TIB)2]n (2), involving the aromatic polycarboxylate ligand 5-bromo isophthalic acid (H2BrIP), flexible tripodal ligand 1,3,5-tris(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (TIB) and Cd(ii)/Ni(ii) metal nodes have been synthesized by different methods. These compounds were characterized by various analytical methods, and variable temperature X-ray diffraction data showed thermal stability of both MOFs up to 350 °C. Phase purity as well as water stability of the MOFs were established by powder X-ray diffraction, and the structural diversity of the compounds were investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both the MOFs are mixed ligand 2D nets, and the topology of the network can be described as a binodal 3,5-c connected net with 3,5L2 topology having the point symbol {42·67·8}{42·6}. Sensing of picric acid [2,4,6-trinitrophenol, TNP] by luminescence quenching among a large range of nitroanalytes in aqueous phase by the Cd(ii) luminescent MOF (LMOF) were been investigated. Structural studies on 1 : 1 co-crystals (CC1) of TIB and TNP were carried out. The selective and sensitive fluorescence quenching response of 1 towards electron-deficient TNP over other nitro analytes in aqueous phase was demonstrated by fluorescence quenching titration. Concomitant occurrence of electron transfer/energy transfer processes and electrostatic interaction favours the selective sensing of TNP. A Cd(ii) LMOF (1)-coated paper strip that we developed demonstrated fast and selective response to TNP, by the complete quenching of the blue fluorescence upon excitation of the paper strip at 365 nm radiation in its presence.
