As part of the 2009 International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Centenary Celebration, a special symposium was dedicated to Epilepsia ( 100 Years of Epilepsia: Landmark Papers and Their Influence). The Associate Editors were asked to identify a particularly salient and meaningful paper in their areas of expertise. From the content areas of neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry two very interesting papers were identified using quite different ascertainment techniques. One paper addressed the problem of psychosis in temporal lobe epilepsy, whereas the other represents the first paper to appear in Epilepsia presenting quantitative assessment of cognitive status in epilepsy. The Sixteenth Eilat Conference on New Antiepileptic Drugs and Devices (EILAT XVI) was held in Madrid, Spain on May 22–25, 2022 and was attended by 157 delegates from 26 countries representing basic and clinical science, regulatory agencies, and pharmaceutical industries. One day of the conference was dedicated to sessions presenting and discussing investigational compounds under development for the treatment of seizures and epilepsy. The current progress report summarizes recent findings and current knowledge for seven of these compounds in more advanced clinical development for which either novel preclinical or patient data are available. These compounds include bumetanide and its derivatives, darigabat, ganaxolone, lorcaserin, soticlestat, STK‐001, and XEN1101. Of these, ganaxolone was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in March 2022 for the treatment of seizures associated with cyclin‐dependent kinase‐like 5 deficiency disorder in patients 2 years of age and older. One of the papers that will be discussed is "Remission: Insights From the Clinic," by M.J. Brodie. Remission of seizures is the major goal in treating epilepsy. It can be defined as a decrease or subsidence in the violence of a disease. Remission is, therefore, not a cure. Many definitions and remission rates are quoted in the literature since scholar William Gowers stated in 1881 that the spontaneous cessation of seizures is an event too rare to be anticipated in any given case. The article presents information on the 4th Asian Oceania Epilepsy Organization (AOEO). AOEO was founded at the 25th Annual Congress of the Japan Epilepsy Society (JES) with Dr.M. Seino as the President. The 4th AOEC was held in collaboration with the 36th Annual Congress of the JES from September 11 to 14, 2002 in Karuizawa, Japan. It was an important milestone in the history of development of epileptology and epilepsy care in Asia in terms of the richness of its scientific program and the large number of participants. The scientific program consisted of one special lecture, four symposia, two workshops, eight didactic lectures, the ILAE/IBE/WHO Global Campaign Meeting and 332 free papers.

A paper that will be discussed is "Benign Myoclonic Epilepsy: What About Outcome?" by S. Zuberi. Benign myoclonic epilepsy in infancy is a rare syndrome with approximately one hundred cases reported since the first syndromic description in 1981. This figure includes 20 infants with reflex myoclonic epilepsy whose inclusion in the wider syndrome remains debatable. Information about several papers discussed at the 27 International Epilepsy Congress in Singapore on July 8-12, 2007 is presented. The said congress focuses on the new insights regarding the mechanisms of epileptogenesis as well as some strategies for therapeutic intervention. Furthermore , the role of KCNQ channels and their associated M-currents in providing inhibitory control over euronal discharges are also given emphasis at the meeting.
