The article discusses the issue of food surpluses in the United States and presents a number of strategies to deal with this situation. The author notes a number of lessons learned from past experience with food surpluses, including the fact that neither price fixing nor government purchasing alone work as long term solutions to food surplus problems. According to the author, the only permanent solution is to bring consumption and production levels into balance, by either increasing consumption or decreasing production.
