The article reports on the decision of defense ministry of Germany to select the Medium Extended Air Defense System (Meads) over the Patriot from defense contractor Raytheon for itsTaktisches Luftverteidigungssystem (TLVS) requirements. Factors to the decision include costs, manpower, the open architecture of Mead, and a joint development of a surveillance unmanned vehicle (UAV) with France and Italy. It suggests the opportunities with military services for which Meads could compete.
